San Faldo is an island in Paradise, and part of the Sea Train Zone.
Overview[]
San Faldo is known as "The Carnival Town" (カーニバルの町, Kānibaru no Machi?), and is a island connected as a central part of the Sea Train Zone which connects over a dozen islands in the latter half of the Grand Line. A Spring Island sitting under a huge iron deposit, it's home to many a great circus gathering from across Paradise, who often vie for complete control of the island in order to earn a profit.
Geography[]
When it comes to the island's geography, San Faldo is set within a rather medium-sized island divided into three layers. On the bottom layer is a swamp-like coast, while the main city sits peacefully on the second layer, about 300 meters above at the edge. In the center lies the third layer, which extends a further 300 meters up and which holds San Faldo's circus itself. The climate itself seems to get drier as one ascends the island, as the wet and dampy swamps extend upward to a temperate city and then further up into a somewhat dry peak. This climate is maintained via use of Dance Powder, though not many citizens know of this truth.
Architecture[]
San Faldo's architechture is based upon New Orleans architectures and buildings. In particular they prefer Shotgun style houses with iron walls.
Locations[]
- Mudd: Sitting at the bottom of San Faldo, Mudd is a rather short port town settled within the swamps, which hosts the port for the Sea Train. The bulk of trading occurs here, while a mining company builds a mining tunnel within the cliff wall at the northern edge of the city. The city occasionally sinks, but uses balloon-like devices on the roof to push the buildings up every few months.
- Carnivale: The main city of San Faldo, located on the second layer of the island. This is where the majority of the island's citizens dwell, and there are as many circus tents as there are buildings. The many circus groups on the island here compete at this layer for the big tent on the top layer, and as such they serve as the main source of income for the island thanks to tourism.
- Gran Faldo: The big circus tent that encompasses the entire top layer of the island. Big enough to hold even Giants, this gargantuan circus tent is owned by the biggest circus within San Faldo at the time, and as such constantly changes hands. It is said that the one who holds the position of Ringmaster of Gran Faldo rules the island with a whimsical, but dangerous fist. In order to keep the tent from being rained out, the tent uses Dance Powder to maintain the swamp's watery consistency, which allows the top of the island to remain dry.
Wildlife and Creatures[]
Mud Chameleons[]
See More: Mud Chameleons
Mud Chameleons are a type of lizard native to the swamps of the first layer of San Faldo. Growing to an average of three foot in length, these larger geckos are naturally purple in coloration and possess wings for better swimming through mud, as well as a fluidic tail that can change it's shape for different purposes. In addition, much like regular Chameleons, these creatures can change their color through clever temperature manipulation, allowing them to blend with their surroundings so they can capture fish. They tend to live an amphibious lifestyle, sticking to the mud and emerging to stick their tounges into the island's coast to catch small fish.
Sumo Frogs[]

The Sumo Frog is the native apex predator of the swamps of San Faldo. Sumo Frogs grow on average to be 6-8 feet tall, and are extremely bulky for an amphibian. They use this bulk in order to participate in a primitive form of sumo wrestling, and grow hair across the top of their head and down their back, which naturally ties itself into a chonmage. They tend to be used for labor within the upper layers of San Faldo, and are sold as pets across the entire Sea Train Zone for their great strength. Because of this, their numbers are dwindling on their native island and yet worldwide their numbers are rising at a rapid rate.
History[]
War of Merriment[]
From 1600 to 1612, while the rest of the world was tense due to the building pressure of the Yonko San Faldo was in it's own localized sort of trouble. Four different circuses from across the island all declared war on each other in a bid of earning all of the spotlight of the island. This war, known as the War of Merriment lasted for 12 years, during which many different performers as well as visiting pirates and Marines all died. In this period, the island was labelled a Warfare Zone, and as such the Sea Train was modified to skip San Faldo until after the war concluded. Things had only gotten worse when the Dance Powder ran out, causing the swamps to begin to dry up for the first time in decades.
In the end, the war ended when a certain acrobat managed to slay two of the ringmasters responsible for the conflict while remaining anonymous while causing a third to leave the island for Water 7 in fear. This left the sole remaining ringmaster, P. T Barnum to claim position as the head ringmaster of the island. Within a year, the status as a Warfare Zone was removed from San Faldo, allowing the island to recover access to it's beloved Dance Powder and restoring it's swamps in the process. After the war, new laws were put in place, preventing circuses from attacking each other except on other islands nearby so as to not damage the island's revenue while a Marine Base was built within Carnivale to keep a watch for any future conflict.
