The Sake Sake no Mi is a Special Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows the user to create, control, and transform into alcohol at will.[1] Those who eat the fruit become a Booze Human (酒人間 Sake Ningen?), though some prefer to go by Booze Person (酒人物 Sake Jinbutsu?) if they are not human.[2] It was eaten by Heidrun Skadi, who would go on to "awaken" it.

Etymology[]

  • Sake (さけ) is Japanese for "alcohol".

Appearance[]

The Sake Sake no Mi is a relatively large fruit. It is shaped similarly to that of gourd, a device often used to carry sake. The flesh of the fruit is primarily tan, but has two darker brown stripes on either side of it. It is within these darker bands that the iconic swirling patterns of the Devil Fruits are present. The swirls in the two bands swirl in opposite directions. The stem of the fruit wraps around the more narrow middle part of the fruit.

Capabilities[]

Strengths[]

The user is given the ability to generate, manipulate, and transform any part of their body into alcohol in its various forms that they can manipulate as they please. Being able to transform into a liquid state allows the user greater flexibility as they can control themselves as a stream of alcohol. The alcohol can be shaped into various forms and used effectively as various forms of weaponry.

Additionally, due to its high malleability and compatibility with Haki, the alcohol can be formed into a wide variety of shapes, such as replicas of body parts, swords that act like a water jet cutter, and even complete copies of the user made of alcohol. Given the alcoholic nature of the powers, it can also render its foes drunk.

As a Special Paramecia-class fruit, its ability to transform the user into alcohol is largely similar to the properties of a Logia fruit.[3] Thus, the user is invincible against attacks that are not imbued with Busoshoku or Haoshoku Haki by willing their body into alcohol, as any part of their body that is struck by an attack simply morphs into alcohol that can reform after.

Weaknesses[]

Like all Devil Fruit users, the user of the Sake Sake no Mi is weak to being submerged within water and being touched with seastone, as both contain the devil fruit-rejecting nature of the sea. The powers of the Sake Sake no Mi can also be negated by the physical touch of the user of the Yami Yami no Mi.

As a Special Paramecia-class fruit, while often invincible to most blows, the user must will themselves into alcohol to avoid damage. This is unlike a Logia, which activates passively when faced with danger. Further, even in a transformed state, the user is prone to attacks infused with Busoshoku or Haoshoku Haki.

Further, as alcohol is consumable, one could drink away the alcohol of certain attacks. However, to excessively drink attacks from the Sake Sake no Mi could lead to varying levels of intoxication and eventually alcohol poisoning.

Awakening[]

Like all Devil Fruits, the Sake Sake no Mi possesses the potential to be "awakened". This bolsters the power of the fruit and gives it the additional ability to render the environment around them into alcohol, such as the earth, trees, and buildings.

Usage[]

Techniques[]

  • Ullr Shot (栄光ウルルショット Ururu Shotto?, literally meaning "Glory Shot"): Skadi forms alcohol into a spherical shape in her palm before launching it towards her enemy. This can be used as a piercing bullet, or as a spray of alcohol over something. She has been seen spraying people with open founds to force alcohol into their bloodstream as to drunken them and make them easier to fight in most scenarios. This technique is named for Ullr, the god of skiing and hunting in Norse mythology.
  • Surtr Flame Shot (火巨人スルトフレイムショット Suruto Fureimu Shotto?, literally meaning "Fire Giant Flame Shot"): Skadi spews a high percentage alcohol at her opponent. This can be done as a stream, a ball of liquor, or a wave. As she spews out the alcohol, she'll ignite it in some way - generally by dragging her hammer on the ground to create sparks to spray into it. However, she can ignite it with a preexisting source of fire as well. This technique is named for Surtr, the greatest of the fire giants of Muspelheim and a key figure in Ragnarok in Norse mythology.
  • Njord Drunken Wave (荒波ニヨルドドランケンウェーブ Niyorudo Doranken Uēbu?, literally meaning "Stormy Sea Drunken Wave"): Skadi slams her arms into the ground, generating a great deal of alcohol to form a heavy wall of alcohol that rolls like an ocean wave. The liquid weight of the booze can crash into and harm those caught in it, as well as act as a defense to any attacks that must pass through it. This technique is named for Njord, the god of the seas Norse mythology.
  • Gram Tipsy Blade (激怒グラムティプシーブレード Guramu Tipushī Burēdo?, literally meaning "Angry Tipsy Blade"): Skadi transforms her arms into a blade. The blade acts much like water jet cutter, giving it a superb cutting ability and being able to combat many proper blades. It can cleave through even strong, tough materials. This technique is named for Gram, the sword that slayed the dragon Fafnir in Norse mythology.
  • Gram Tipsy Harpoon (激怒グラムティプシーハープーン Guramu Tipushī Hāpūn?, literally meaning "Angry Tipsy Harpoon"): Skadi creates the Gram Tipsy Blade and throws her hand forward by turning her arm into a stream of alcohol. This allows her to whip her bladed arm around as a long ranged weapon. This technique has the power to cleave through walls with clean cuts from a far distance.
  • Gram Tipsy Execution (激怒グラムティプシーエクセキューション Guramu Tipushī Ekusekyūshon?, literally meaning "Angry Tipsy Execution"):
  • Kraken Sloshed Arms (巨鮹クラーケンの酒腕 Kurāken no Shuwan?, literally meaning "Giant Octopus' Drunken Arms"): With this technique, Skadi creates multiple streams of alcohol from her back. These act as extra appendages for Skadi to attack with, acting as whips or even proper arms. Skadi can pulverize them those she fights with them, with each extra appendage possessing the same physical strength as her. Further, Skadi can cast her other abilities through the arms as well. This technique is named for the Kraken, a legendary sea monster that often takes the form of a massive cephalopod that was popularized in the Scandinavian region.
  • Dwarf Spirit ( 酔い覚め虎ドワーフスピリット Dowāfu Supiritto?, literally meaning "Sobering Up Drunkard"):
  • Freya Drunken Feather Mantle (戦予言フレイヤ酔余羽衣 Fureiya Suiyo Hagoromo?, literally meaning "War Prophet's Drunken Feather Mantle"): Skadi forms wings made out of alcohol, allowing her to take flight by riding the alcoholic vapors she produces.
  • Draupnir Keg Party (常酔余披露宴ドラウプニルケグパーティー Doraupuniru Kegu Pātī?, literally meaning "Everlasting Drunken Celebration"):

Awakened Techniques[]

  • Jotunn Grand Spirit (熱燗清御神酒スルトグランドスピリット Suruto Gurando Supiritto?, literally meaning "Hot Sake Refined Sacred Alcohol"): While this form was not created with the awakening of the Sake Sake no Mi, it drastically strengthened the form and made it easier for Skadi to access and use as she saw fit. It is named for the jotunn, a group of godlike beings in Norse mythology and often conflated with giants.
  • Intoxicated Kraken Thousand-Armed Approach (陶酔境大蛸クラーケン千手殺 Tōsuikyō Kurāken Senjusatsu?, literally meaning "Intoxicated Great Octopus Thousand-Armed Approach"):
  • Bilskirnir Drunken Heavens (天襜酔余雷雨ビルスキルニルドランクンヘヴンズ Birusukiruniru Dorankun Hevunzu?, literally meaning "Heaven-Shaking Drunken Thunderstorm"):
