SMIRK is a chemical compound originally created by World Government scientists. After their research was leaked to the public blackmarket SMIRK has been appearing all over the world to varying success. The Injection of SMIRK will temporarily grant the usage of a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit ability.
Appearance[]
SMIRK is a vicious liquid of ever changing color whose shape forms to the bottom of whatever container that it rests in. Agitating SMIRK by shaking or stirring it will cause it to change colors quickly, slowing down as it begins to settle once more. Coming into skin to skin contact with SMIRK is not known to cause any ill effects but tends to stain the skin and is said to feel sticky to the touch. When dumped onto a flat surface SMIRK will not run but rater bead up and be attacted to the largest chunks similar in nature to mercury.
Attributes[]
SMIRK does not take the same form of SMILE, rather being a liquid that is injected into the body via needle and syringe. Shortly after entering the body of a user through this method the user will manifest the ability of the Paramecia Devil Fruit the batch of SMIRK was created to replicate. This comes with all of the downsides of a regular Devil Fruit as the user will now forever lose the ability to swim but also find themselves effected by Sea stone.
To create this liquid, a sample of the original power's bearer's Lineage Factor is needed. For example to create an Ito SMIRK, the Lineage Factor of a wielder of the original fruit must be utilized.
However, despite years upon years of trial and error, SMIRK does not grant these abilities permenantly. Rather, once SMIRK has manifested into a user's body the powers granted will completely disappear within a single week's time. This timeframe is not changed or altered in any way by the usage or lackthereof of any of the abilities granted but once lost the user must inject SMIRK again in order to regain these powers. Injecting SMIRK of different batches after the powers of the first have faded away will not grant a new ability but rather simply see the user regaining the original ability of their inital use once again for a weeks time.
The least perfected of any of the artifical devil fruit types, SMIRk's downsides come with greater cost as the substance has been observed to be highly addictive. After two to three uses of SMIRK users tend to become hooked on the substance seeking out more and greater quantities even though nothing beyond the regular dosage results in any effect to the abilities granted.
However, injecting SMIRK before the week has passed and the powers granted have faded will lead to overdose and as a result, death to the user. This is typically the way that those who use SMIRK meet their end. Even more dangerous than the water all around them being their own self destructive addiction.
The few who have managed to find themselves cleansed of addiction have described the process of coming clean as akin to being burned alive from the inside out, many left with mental scars that may never heal, an equal number claiming they would not wish the detox process on even their worst enemies. The fear of the pain of the process alone being enough to scare many users who would like to stop into continuing shortly after starting to detox.

Trivia[]
- SMIRKs cannot awaken.
- Taking SMIRK after the powers have faded will not result in a new Paramecia type power but rather see the user regaining the power they had lost.
- SMIRK is known as SMIRK to fit the naming theme from SMILE, SMIRK being considered a more sinsiter version of SMILE due to its addictive properties.
