"Bloody" Mateo is a prisoner currently serving his sentence on level six of Impel Down. When he was free on the seas he was the captain of the Apocalypse Pirates. Mateo was imprisoned before the War of Empires for many crimes, including mass murder by Lorenzo Rafael.
Appearance[]
Mateo is a huge Man with orange tinted skin and a single eye being his most prominent feature. Mateo has a powerful build that was naturally given to him from birth.

As a prisoner of Impel Down, Mateo is dressed in a standard prisoners uniform of a pants and a t-shirt with black and white horizontal stripes.

Personality[]
Mateo is known for being ruthless and violent; this resulted in a prominent rumour about Mateo having no heart beating in his chest. Mateo is aware that he is a bad person and that when it's time to go, he will burn for eternity, but despite being aware of his violent actions, he has no intent on changing for the better, as he believes that his body was born for bloodshed and it would be pointless to try and stop.

Mateo is a firm warrior, using his insane brute strength to overpower his foes. Mateo has been seen to have insane levels of endurance as before the War of Empires, Mateo was able to battle against a horde of Marine for a week with barely any form of break, to then fight a final battle against admiral Rafael, whom he fought against for an entire day before being defeated .

Busoshoku Haki[]
Mateos' body had a natural affinity for Busoshoku Haki, awakening it at a young age after wanting to punch someone harder. Mateos has immense mastery over Buso; being able to coat his entire body without losing any integrity.

Pre War Of Empires[]
During his reign on the sea, Mateo led a brutal crew of thugs who would have no problem following along with the bloodshed Mateo would spread. For a few years, straight the crew raided terror on the citizens, defeating any marines that would be sent to capture them. But after years of bloodshed, a switch flipped inside Mateo. Mateo became aware of the crimes he was committing and how grave they were. While aware of his actions, he knew he couldn't change as his body craved the dark urge and it was pointless to try and stop it himself, so to solve his issue, he went to find someone who could stop him for once.
Mateo disbanded his crew and set off to a marine stronghold, where he would set the stage for what was meant to be his final rampage. He arrived on the island and began his preparations by crushing every marine on the island, killing a few on purpose and others by accident. With only a couple of marines left, he sent them on there way to marine HQ, telling the marines to bring an admiral or he target the holy land next. Before any admirals could be sent, the Marines attempted to send other slightly lower-ranking marines to put him down. Still, each time he would send their boats back with half their marines left standing.
This process was repeated a few times over a week, and with Mateo showing no sign of tiring, the Marines would send off a final boat. Lorenzo Rafael was the last one sent to try and bring Mateo down, with the battle between the admiral and the pirate raged on for a day straight, destroying the land around them as they battled. But finally, after a bloody siege on Mateo that cost the lives of many marines, the admiral put Mateo down.
When Mateo awoke, he found himself trapped in impel down inside of hell he believed he deserved. Mateo was forced to spend the rest of his life unable to move an inch as the world passed around him, and he had to live what he had done.
