Mao Jade is a Winter Island oke of the Twenty Kingdoms in New World, currently under the rule of the Jade Emperor.

Mao Jade is also known as the The Jade Spear (翡翠の槍 Hisui no Yari?).

General Information[]

Mao Jade is a powerful kingdom that has grown in influence thanks to the current Emperor and the World Government. It is currently undergoing a civil war as the Western Dragon was removed from his spot in a brutal civil war, causing other sections of the kingdom to raise their defenses in response, as the current leader of the west was seen as violent and dangerous. They have a very strong export of raw goods, weapons, and medicines. While the kingdom has four rulers, the Jade Emperor has the final say and can overrule any choice made by the others. However, no one has seen the Emperor in over 40 years since a failed assassination attempt on their life was made. Thus, all decisions made by them are done via a letter with the royal seal.

Architecture[]

Each island has its own architecture, drastically differing between them, with the capital being the most extravagant and intricate. Moving clockwise from the north, each island becomes progressively less advanced and more run down. The island's wealth can be easily gauged by the amount of jade being traded in the city. Bridges between the islands are constructed from clouds taken from Sky Island, rendered tangible when travel is authorized but intangible when travel is unwanted.

Layout and Locations[]

Cities and Locations[]

Jade Palace[]

The Jade Palace is a massive castle surrounded by 12 walls that separate into subsections before reaching the main castle itself. The people here all work for the Jade Emperor, but with overlapping jobs and often covered by others, the residents have been able to live comfortably. Unlike the other islands, this is the only territory with citizens from Sky Island as well. No one has seen the Jade Emperor, but every few weeks, the castle will be shot into the sky with an artificial Knock Up Stream. The buildings are all extravagant, adorned in jade and jewels. The closer you get to the center, the more buildings made of jade appear. This is also home to the first of five royal artifacts of the country.

North[]

Also known as Song, the Northern Island embodies innovation and industry, specializing in weapon manufacturing and metallurgy. The landscape is punctuated by foundries, arsenals, and military installations, surrounded by towering walls and defensive fortifications. The architecture here is characterized by grand palaces, intricate pagodas, and ornate temples dedicated to martial arts and warfare. The people here are some of the best fighters in the kingdom, often hosting tournaments open to anyone who wants to attend. Additionally, they believe that any confrontation among themselves should be settled with either fists or words.

South[]

Also known as Tang, the Southern Island epitomizes opulence and leisure, serving as the kingdom’s premier vacation destination. This island boasts pristine beaches, lush tropical forests, and luxurious resorts catering to nobles and tourists alike. The architecture here is lavish and extravagant, with sprawling palace complexes, elegant gardens, and ornate pavilions showcasing the kingdom’s wealth and prosperity. Most who enter this island are wealthy, but sometimes others sneak in. There's a rumor that people who go missing from the other islands are being held as slaves on this island, but the Suzaku assures everyone that this is not the case.

East[]

Also known as Han, the Eastern Island serves as the kingdom’s primary coal mining hub. The landscape is dominated by rugged mountains and deep mineshafts, with sprawling mining towns and industrial complexes scattered throughout. The architecture here is utilitarian, with sturdy stone buildings and fortifications to withstand the harsh conditions of the mines. Unlike the rest of the island kingdom, the island is blazing hot from the greenhouse gases that burn from the coal factories, in order to manufacture the raw materials for the other islands to use, as well as effectively mine for jade.

West[]

Also known as Zhou, the Western Island is characterized by its abundant marine resources and thriving fishing industry. The architecture here reflects a rustic charm, with traditional wooden structures and fishing villages dotting the coastline. The capital is a bustling port town with vibrant markets and lively waterfront districts. In recent years, the fish, Sea Kings, and sea beasts in the area tend to have tastier meat here as well, though it may be due to the alcohol that's manufactured here as it spills into the sea.

History[]

Past[]

Originally, nine different kingdoms existed separately, with the center island being home to a crazed tyrant who believed that sacrifices needed to be made to appease the Ocean's Mother. He would have campaigns of his soldiers going to every island and hunt down one Devil Fruit user a month, throwing them into the ocean as a way to appease her. They would say it was mandatory to keep the fish plentiful in their home. This, combined with having the largest army, prevented anyone from rebelling until the western island rose up and began to fight back, causing the king to go into a rage and deciding to conquer the rest of the islands in a brutal war that left few survivors. His son commissioned a weapon from Wano and reached out to the World Government for help, starting a civil war to take the kingdom back, putting every island under one flag. The people that killed the old king were kept in the capital of the kingdom after the ruler, going by the Jade Emperor, finished with it and went into hiding. The nine islands were consolidated into five main territories, with the west as a fishing island, the east as a coal mining island, the north as a weapons manufacturer, and the south as a vacation resort. With the capital focusing these islands on one goal, the separate islands began to fall into disarray, being attacked by pirates to the point that they are known as the forsaken islands, where people go missing to be sent to the coal mines of the east.

In recent years, there was an uprising in the west caused by a woman who started fires that burned the southwestern island to the ground in a battle with the capital. Subsequently, the west became its own independent island and made a trade agreement with the rest of the kingdom. Despite pressure from the other islands to bring the west in line, the Jade Emperor has officially stated, "No harm will come to them unless they strike first."
