Indra (?) is a Swordsman from the West Blue.[2] Armed with his unique style of swordsmanship, he seeks to slay every dragon that the world holds.[3][4]

Appearance[]

Indra stands at an impressive 180.34cm (5’11”), putting him below the gargantuan folk that often wander through the seas. His physicality is lean much more like that of an acrobat’s, with well built shoulders that he often refers to as “boulder shoulders”, and powerful calves. He accredits his physicality to his childhood, running and fighting against things often bigger than he was.

His skin is reminiscent of bourbon, short cut blond hair that he keeps well-trimmed to prevent the hair from falling onto his eyes. His eyes are a piercing amber colour and often provide him with a sense of maturity that he does not possess.[5] He has a scar over the bridge of his nose from when he first accidentally cut himself when wielding a sword as an infant.

Personality[]

Indra is easily distracted.[6][7] He tends to ramble and speak quickly.[8] Indra comes off as childish and naive.[9] Indra has a tendency to be dramatic.[10][11] He is aware of his tendency to speak before he thinks,[12] and understands when he offends someone even if unintentionally.[13]

Indra occasionally enters a state of intense concentration,[14] and is known to become more aggressive in the midst of combat instead of being more aloof and relaxed as he normally is.[15][16][17]

Indra has extreme disdain for fighting anything that isn't a dragon.[10]

Relationships[]

Mochizuki Yoruichi[]

Main article: Mochizuki Yoruichi

Often referring to her as Yoru,[18] Indra first met Mochizuki Yoruichi in Kano Country's Zhu Region as he wandered yelling for the Seiryu.[19] She deemed him stupid and dramatic almost instantly,[20] though she initially seemed willing to entertain his strange desire.[21] Though she does end up striking Indra for his insensitivity,[22] she is pleasantly surprised with Indra for him being self-aware of his behaviour and horrified with herself for letting her anger get the best of her.

Within their first meeting, Yoruichi and Indra both end up opening up to one another, with Yoruichi sharing the final words of her grandma with Indra,[23] and Indra admitting he was an orphan.[24] By the end of this encounter the two decide to travel together,[25] and Indra admits that she is his first friend,[26] causing Yoruichi to realize that she didn't have many friends either.[27]

Musashi[]

Main article: Musashi

Indra and Musashi’s relationship started off horribly, with Indra declaring him a sham and fraud for calling himself the Flame Dragon.[28] The two were quick to engage in combat soon after,[29] though were both pleasantly surprised at one another’s skill. After achieving victory,[30] Indra refers to Musashi as the Flame Dragon before taking them both to a doctor for their wounds.[31][32]

West Drake[]

Main article: West Drake

Indra and Drake first meet as Indra attempts to collect a Devil Fruit Encyclopedia to use as a hit list to slay dragons.[33] Drake states he’s unable to let Indra into the bookstore because of his duty to the Marines,[34] and the two bond over Indra making a “doody” joke.[35] After sharing a moment of joy, Indra inadvertently states that he once knew Yūkyū Rikō, and Drake informs him that she is dead.[36]

Drake comforts Indra as he feels pain and sadness during the moment,[37] talking him down from engaging in battle. But as Indra reveals that Yoruichi is sneaking in as they speak,[38] they fight as Indra keeps Drake off of Yoru.[39] Indra ends up winning the fight by paralyzing Drake; cutting against his spine.[40] Indra feels immense regret and misery,[41] especially as he sees Drake cry and call himself weak; the latter of which Indra is quick to deny.[42] But the two still maintain some level of friendship as Indra departs from the scene of their fight.[43]

Abilities & Powers[]

Senses[]

As a man who engages in melee combat, Indra’s senses are demanded to be greater than the majority. Most notable of these senses is his sense of perception; serving as potentially his greatest asset.

Not only is he able to notice minute movements quickly,[44] Indra often sees the world moving slower than the majority,[45] allowing him to remain vigilant almost consistently.[44] He can easily see what he deems the “sword path” of opposing swordsmen,[46] and see incoming strikes near the instant the motion begins.[47]

Speed & Agility[]

Swordsmanship[]

Main article: Ryuga-ryu

Indra is the founder and sole practitioner of Ryuga-ryu, a form of swordsmanship designed to embody his dream of being a Dragonslayer.[4] The style itself relies on the usage of Indra’s speed and acrobatic movements to cut through whatever he desires.[49] When executed well, opponents are often faced with techniques that are designed to kill them,[55] and as a result forces his opponents to unleash their full limits.[56]

INDRAVMUSA

Indra utilizes his acrobatic skill against Musashi.

Indra’s natural acrobatic movements make him an extremely maneuverable individual,[57] and his movements have been described as still flowing water; unable to be restrained.[58] Indra can easily maneuver around and through his opponents attacks,[59] and will even use his opponent as temporary footing.[60] Through this movements Indra is able to adapt to the situation laid before him,[61][62] without much issue at all.[63]

Indra is skillfully able to use his opponents own strength against them, using it to amplify his own momentum.[64][65][61] Against other swordsmen, Indra tends to use the clash of swords as a way to pivot out and take that incoming momentum to perform motions that are enhanced by that very momentum.[66] He appears to be able to recreate this sort of phenomenon against martial artists as well.[67]

Indra remains a relentless combatant,[68] made possible due to his perception and agility; allowing him to react in kind suddenly.[69] Seen as when West Drake continues to push against Indra with his own superior strength, Indra remains on the attack,[68] even going as far as striking into Drake’s own attacks.[70] Indra’s ability to devise and react to opponents strategies allow his swordsmanship to remain viable even in strange situations, such as when Drake knocked him and Indra both into the sky, Indra was quick to reach and “stand” on Drake before assaulting him with a barrage of his own.[71]

Indra is notably an extremely vicious combatant, aiming to strike in ways that leave permanent and intense damage, even when a bout is deemed a “spar” or against a friend.[72] Decreed as the nature of how his swordsmanship was formed, Indra never shies away from going for attacks that would be crippling. He has aimed for joints,[72] to sever limbs from the body,[73] pierce through crucial areas,[74] to flay layers off a person,[70] and has even gone as far as paralyzing others;[40] and the nature of the relationship matters little to him in the moment.[75]

Equipment[]

Sword[]

Main article: Balmung

Balmung is a broadsword belonging to Indra. It serves as his primary and only weapon,[76] and it is unknown when and how he first acquired this weapon. It is considered as one of the Skillful Grade blades.[77]

The weapon is often sheathed to the back of his hip, the hilt parallel to his shoulders.[76]

Devil Fruit Encyclopedia[]

Main articles: Devil Fruit Encyclopedia and Book of Bodies

Since the events of the Book Binding Arc, Indra has come into the possession of a Devil Fruit Encyclopedia.[78] Mere moments after coming to own it, Indra began to rip hundreds of pages out of it,[79] leaving behind only the pages with Dragon Devil Fruits.

Arboris[]

Main article: Arboris

Indra first encountered Arboris on Swordgrave Island,[80] when they are transformed by the Zena Zena no Mi, Model: Pink Fairy.[80] The two instantly bond and tend to perform the same gestures often.[81] Arboris and Indra in spite of recently meeting, are close enough that the former is accepting of adopting the name "Boris" after Indra refers to him as such.[82]

Indra is extremely affectionate with Boris, of which Boris enjoys greatly.

History[]

Past[]

At some point, Indra was orphaned.[83] Indra also states he has met Yūkyū Rikō, and says she supports his dream.[84]
