"Valkyrie" Heidrun Astrid Skadi is a Giantess and the Crown Princess of the Kingdom of Elbaph in the New World stretch of the Grand Line.[1][9] She is the eldest child and daughter of Heidrun Thrymr, the King of Elbaph and a Yonko, and Queen Embla.[12][13] As such, she is the elder sister of Nott and Surtr, as well as the elder first cousin of Nanna.[12][14][15]

Skadi eventually ate the Sake Sake no Mi, a Special Paramecia granting her the power to generate, manipulate, and transform into alcohol at will.[17] Later, she would awaken the power of the fruit, improving her overall strength and control of alcohol manipulation and giving her the ability to turn her surroundings into alcohol.[18] As such, she declared that she was rendered into a Booze Person (酒人物 Sake Jinbutsu?). Further, Skadi would eventually awaken the ability to use Haoshoku Haki, revealing her status as a Supreme Ruler (覇王 Haō?) with the even rarer power to infuse it.[19]

Skadi is a pirate in the world at large, seen as a powerful rookie. In her youth, Skadi served as a low-ranking member of her father's Ragnarok Pirates, getting her start in piracy under the banner of a Yonko. However, she would eventually decide to set out on her own adventures to grow more powerful and learn about the larger world. This led to Skadi desiring to form her own crew. Prior to her adventures and exploits, she would awaken her Haoshoku Haki in a conflict with Daisy Yda after the Behemoth destroyed Thrud - an heirloom from her deceased mother.[20] After this, Skadi would form the Jotunn Pirates with Nott and some of her friends and allies from Elbaph with the blessing of her father - who gifted her with Mjolnir. Upon her eventual return to Elbaph, she would show that she had learned to use her Haoshoku Haki at will and even be trained to infuse it.[21][22] Skadi's crew would be integrated into the Ragnarok Pirates and she was made into a Jotunn - a commander for the crew.[11] Due to her actions as a pirate for both crews, she has amassed a bounty of Beli603,000,000.[6]

The giantess' fierceness at home led to her father calling her "Valkyrie" (ワルキューレ Warukyūre?), which has since been spread as she journeyed out into the larger world.[1][4] She appears to be quite fond of the name as well, announcing it to others when she can - with it becoming her official epithet. Her nature of fighting, which tends to be highly aggressive and violent, has also led to her being called "Berserker" (バーサーカー Bāsākā?).[1][2]

Appearance[]

Skadi is an impeccably tall woman due to her Giant bloodline. Paired with her slender body, Skadi is considered quite beautiful by many who come across her. Skadi possesses vibrant red hair that she generally wears in two long braided pigtails framing the sides of her face. The pigtails end with little golden tabs. Her eyes are a light, crystal blue. Her eyes are sharp in their shape, considered powerful and alluring by those who meet her gaze. Her skin is fair in color, with her lips possessing a pinkish tint to them. Her long legs are one of her most distinguishing traits, which has lead to her being mistaken as a member of the Longleg Tribe at times when she uses her powers to shrink to a smaller size.

The clothing she most commonly wears is associated with the Nordic people and vikings. As the princess of Elabf, she typically wore a dress made of a dark gray material that reveals a great deal of cleavage. Translucent gray cloth covers her upper chest and shoulders, which helps from keeping the dress from slipping. It is lined with a light gray material and is connected at the neck with a green jewel pendant. The same lining separates the part of the dress that covers her upper body from the skirt, which is a lighter gray than the rest of the dress other than the lining. Further, on her dress is a fur-lined light brown loin cloth that ends at about a third of the way down her thighs. She also sports a light blue cloth that hangs from her waist. Along with her dress, she wears boots and gloves of the same color that are lined with similar light brown fur. Lastly, she wears a large fur cape that matches the rest of the fur she wears. She adorns her body with golden jewelry. Most notably, she wears a headpiece that gives her the appearance of having two golden ram horns on her head. She has golden horn-like pieces on her hips, offering her a bit of protection with them. Lastly, her braids end with golden cylindrical clips. Aside from clothing and jewelry, Skadi also wore red lipstick, making her lips more distinct and alluring. The end result was giving Skadi a prettier face to look at. Skadi has called this her "Berserker" outfit.

Skadi adopted a new outfit as she ventured out into the world of pirates. While she kept her golden horns from her previous outfit, the rest of it changed drastically. Much of it consists of dark brown leather armor. This includes what amounts to a leather brassiere covering her chest, though revealing a large amount of cleavage. It connects to shoulder guards of the same material. On each shoulder pad is two spikes, which Skadi explains are actually Sea King teeth. Attached to the shoulder pads is a fur cape, though this one is far shorter than her previous cape. This leather material is presumably the same on her stomach, but she has a wrap of blue material around it, presumably reused from the cloth that hung on the waist of her previous outfit. Attached to it is a metal plate made of dark gray metal with the shield knot etched into it. The bottoms of her torso armor ends with fur that extends down, with a skirt forming from a leather flap that covers her buttocks. She has two Sea King fangs attached to the waist of her armor as well. She wears leather arm guards with fur lining with plated metal for further protection on each arm. Finally, she wears steel toed boots that go up to the midpoint of her thighs. The top of the boots are lined with fur. Further, Skadi had cut her hair and resumed wearing it in twin braids. However, by this point she started wearing them towards the back of her torso, with them hanging well past her shoulder blades. Skadi has described this outfit as fitting her epithet of "Valkyrie" better, occasionally referring to he outfit as such.

As a child, Skadi wore similar clothes. Her main outfit was a tan dress with a dark brown wrap around her waist. The dark brown material also ran up the middle of her torso to the collar of her dress and a matching one on the back. Four curved lines connected both stripes on either side of her body, with each side having two curved lines each. The bottom hem of the dress and the cuffs of the arms are lined with dark brown fur, matching her cape as well. She wears light brown boots. Aside from clothes, she wore her hair in a large bun.

Skadi has been described as looking a great deal like her mother, Heidrun Embla. The only differences that have been accounted for is that Skadi is taller than she was and that she has fiery red hair, unlike her mother's blonde hair. She got her red hair from her father, who had the same hair color in his youth.[23]

Personality[]

Skadi Queen Storm Smug

Skadi showing the pride she carries in herself.

Skadi has a playful and hedonistic personality that shows itself in a variety of ways. This includes giving weird nicknames to those she meet. She also will mock those around her. Skadi also has shown herself to take advantage of her abilities, such as entering a drinking competition - knowing that she is very resistant to becoming drunk. She takes a great deal of enjoyment from adventures and wants to explore the world in pursuit of her dreams. However, Skadi also appears to be somewhat dimwitted to those around her, seeing her preference for conflict in many situations and lacking in information that others view to be common.

Skadi has also shown herself to aggressive and combative. This can be seen with their relationship with various figures, such as charging violently forth in her battle with Daisy Yda. In this, she can also show anger at others, such as calling Norn a "stray dog" in their conflict.[24] Skadi enjoys their battle and can even be seen grinning as she takes multiple hits. Skadi also rarely cowers down from anything, her courage allowing her to take on any challenge with little to no fear. Despite appearing dimwitted, Skadi is quite intelligent in combat. She is fast to understand her own limitations and the nature of attacks used against her.

Skadi is a great enjoyer of alcohol. She spends much of her free time in different bars, saloons, breweries, distilleries, wineries, and any market that reasonably would sell alcoholic beverages of any sort. She loves beer and hard liquor, though she prefers hard liquor the majority of the time. Despite this, raspberry-flavored mead is Skadi's favorite drink.[1] She seems to experience symptoms of withdrawal when she is not able to drink alcohol for extended periods of times; becoming lethargic, aggressive, depressed, or some combination of these different traits. Different types of alcohol also seem to affect her mood in different ways, often heightening certain emotions over others.

Skadi is shown to have a strong love for her family. She great respects her father, Heidrun Thrymr, and values his teachings and stories. She also shown to deeply miss her mother, Heidrun Embla. She deeply treasured Thrud, a heirloom passed down to her from her mother at some point, and awoken her Haoshoku Haki when it was destroyed. Her typically fun loving personality drastically shifts if it is taken from her, with her forcefully taking it back and belittling those who attempt to steal it.

Skadi's unique laugh is "sakikiki" (さキキキ?).[1]

Relationships[]

Family[]

Heidrun Thrymr[]

Skadi and Thrymr share a particularly close bond, with many referring to Skadi as Thrymr's favorite child of his three.[25] Thrymr has tended to treat Skadi specially, due to the nature of her being his eldest child and heir to the throne.[9] As a child, when Skadi was in danger from a Toskr Squirrel, Thrymr moved quickly to pick her up and make sure she was okay.[26][27] He would continue to hold on to her and comfort her. After the death of Heidrun Embla, Thrymr simultaneously grew more protective of Skadi and more distant - fearful of losing her.

Eventually, as Skadi grew older, she was allowed to join the Ragnarok Pirates as an Einherjar - the foot soldiers of the crew.[10] In this time, Skadi was taught how to emit her Busoshoku Haki by Thrymr, a skill she makes powerful usage of. However, she would describe her missions in this time as boring and chaperoned, leading to her wishing to create her own crew - the Jotunn Pirates.

Skadi seeks his approval and wants to make Thrymr proud of her. When he seemingly dismissed her growth, Skadi was devastated and nearly brought to tears.[28] When he revealed that he would train her personally, she was ecstatic.[29] She also knows she has him on her side, knowing he would protect her from a possible violent foe when she mocked the clan of Angrboda as they trained her.[30]

Heidrun Embla[]

Skadi and Embla were daughter and mother, with Skadi being Embla's first child. As such, the two were quite close. Embla would made sure of Skadi's wellbeing, willing to fight off even large animals to ensure the safety of the girl.

Skadi loves and greatly misses her mother. After her promotion to being a Jotunn, a commander on her father's crew, she questioned to herself if she was trying to impress Embla still.[31]

Heidrun Nott[]

Nott is Skadi's younger sibling, the middle of the three. Skadi loves and respects them, even bringing Nott on to the Jotunn Pirates as her first mate. She is also protective of them as the elder sibling. However, Skadi also likes to pick on them. This can be seen with Skadi taunting that she is the favorite child of the family and flaunting several forms of authority over them - the elder sibling, the crown princess, their captain, and a Jotunn. Skadi also trusts Nott with her feelings, going to them to talk about things going on in her life.

Heidrun Surtr[]

Surtr is Skadi's little brother and youngest sibling. As he was born much later than herself and Nott, their is a significant age gap that led to them not being as close. Despite this, Skadi does love Surtr and named one of her abilties after him. She felt some level of guilt for leaving him behind when she formed the Jotunn Pirates. Upon her promotion to Jotunn, Skadi would go and check in on him - with the two happy to be reunited.

Heidrun Nanna[]

Nanna is Skadi's half-giant cousin. Skadi is quite close with her and considers her one of her best friends as well as family. This would lead to a young Skadi frequently running to the Heidrun estate to play with Nanna. In an occasion in which Nanna was injured, Skadi was more scared for Nanna's wellbeing than anything else - begging Norn to make sure she would be okay. Skadi promised she would get stronger so Nanna wouldn't be hurt again.

Ragnarok Pirates[]

Norn[]

Skadi has known Norn all her life. Norn has long served as a Jotunn under Heidrun Thrymr, serving as his righthand woman and viewed by many as his first mate. As such, when Thrymr ultimately had children with Embla, Norn became one of the few people Thrymr trusted his children with fully. This led to a young Skadi looking to Norn as a guardian and an older sister in many ways, loving the three-eyed giantess. However, as Skadi grew older, they grew apart. This was in part to Skadi feeling afraid of losing Norn in a more tragic manner like Embla and pushing her away to lessen the blow, as well as Norn's own self doubts.

After Skadi's voyage with the Jotunn Pirates ended, Norn would be one of the Elbaphians he took with him to train Skadi. In this, the duo was made to fight. In the course of the conflict, Skadi referred to Norn as a "stray dog". This would hurt Norn, as well as Skadi immediately regretting it.

Torrono Njord[]

Skadi has a great deal of trust in Torrono Njord. While he was not her first mate on the Jotunn Pirates, Skadi considers him to be her right hand man in many ways. She trusts his strength and his loyalty to her. She seems to be aware of his crush on her, which she sometimes uses to manipulate him into what she wants - though not for malicious purposes.

Overview[]

Skadi Queen Lightning Sword

Skadi generating a blade of lightning with Mjolnir combined with Haoshoku Haki.

As a Jotunn on the Ragnarok Pirates, Skadi has made a name for herself as a powerful pirate of the modern era. Her strength, abilities, versatility, and courage quickly got her labelled a powerful threat and rising concern as the captain of the Jotunn Pirates. However, she was never labelled a Super Rookie due to having been a pirate under her father prior to embarking on her own crew. Skadi doesn't back down from a challenge or adversity, welcoming both as a means to grow even stronger for her own ambitions. Her father, Heidrun Thrymr, the Fimbultyr of the Ragnarok Pirates, trained her a great deal when she was a child and into her early adulthood. As such, Skadi is a skilled combatant.

Her ability to fight with alcohol allows her to use the extreme flexibility of liquid to aid her in combat. She can disperse her body into booze to easily move through cracks and openings, making it exceedingly difficult to lock her into a room or cell. She can also use the alcohol for various ways of attacking, such as generating more limbs, forming weaponry, and creating projectiles. Skadi can also render her opponents drunk as she fights them through the constant exposure to liquid and gaseous alcohol. The liquid form of her body allows her to evade attacks more easily, which has only been heighted as she has gained the ability to harness Kenbunshoku Haki to further predict attacks.

Due to her giant lineage, Skadi has dense and powerful muscles that give her an impressive deal of strength that she often employs in combat as her most reliable means to fight. She has also showed great feats of strength, such as punching a ship away and lifting vessels fully. She often uses her hammer and devil fruit to complement her strength as well. Her massive hammer compliments her strength, being too large and heavy for non-giants to use or lift - with some giants struggling with Mjolnir as well. Her leg muscles also give her a great deal of speed, allowing her to move incredibly fast despite her size. With her overall strength and speed, Skadi primarily tries to overwhelm her opponents with sheer force. Further, Skadi's usage of Busoshoku Haki gives her body more durability and increases her strength greatly - making the giantess a menace to fight in short-range. Despite her drinking habits and general recklessness, she appears to be a rather intelligent fighter. Her manner of overwhelming her opponents with brute force has led to her being called a "Berserker".[2]

Physical Abilties[]

As a Giant, Skadi is physically very strong and often relies on brute strength to overwhelm the majority of those she fights. This is due to her having large, powerful muscles and sheer size advantage. Her height and reach make it difficult to fight her in standard combat without the aid of other abilities. Skadi's strength also allows her to easily lift and use her hammer, Mjolnir, an incredibly heavy weapon. The giantess has also been seen being able to lift massive objects, such as ships. Skadi has also used this strength to tear walls off of buildings to act as an impromptu shield.

Skadi is noted to be impeccably fast despite her size, with her powerful legs being able to make her strides even faster. She may also use her Sake Sake no Mi to create streams of alcohol to enhance her speed to greater heights. The strength of her legs also allows her to jump at impressive heights and great lengths, which she often uses in combat to close gaps between herself and her targets. She also uses the act of falling to enhance the strength of her attacks, especially when it comes to striking others with her hammer.

Further, Skadi has shown herself to be very durable. This can be seen from the giantess taking a Busoshoku Haki-infused attacks from both Norn and Angrboda and sent flying as a result. Despite this, Skadi was able to quickly recover from such attacks and continue to fight. Instead of crying out in pain, Skadi often grins as she feels the sensation of battle and pain go through her body. These traits play into Skadi being feared as a "Berserker".

From 1618 to 1620, Skadi trained with the likes of Angrboda, Norn, and Heidrun Thrymr. With their training and guidance, Skadi's physical strength and natural speed were greatly enhanced. With the power of her fists alone, even without Busoshoku Haki, Skadi could easily punch away the average Marine ship and even lift them with the power of her body. Her technique in fighting has becoming more refined, striking in more strategic, weaker areas of her opponents body to maximize damage she can deliver - that is of course for opponents relative similar to her in size. Her speed also greatly enhances the force of her attacks.

Devil Fruit[]

Skadi Queen Alcohol Spout

Skadi using the power of the Sake Sake no Mi to form an alcohol spout.

Skadi has consumed the Sake Sake no Mi, a rare Special Paramecia-type devil fruit that allows her to create, control, and turn into alcohol at will in a manner very akin to that of a Logia. As a result of it, Skadi has been turned into a Booze Person to aid her in combat. This includes bing able to create and turn into all different manners of alcohol, such as whiskey, vodka, wine, beer, and others. She is also capable of using alcoholic vapors for a gaseous form of booze. Finally, Skadi is unrivalled in terms of drinking ability, being able to outdrink essentially anyone due to her fruit giving her extreme alcohol tolerance.

This can allow her to create a variety of attacks, such as bullets of alcohol of varying strength known as Ullr Shot. She also seems to be able to sense large reserves of alcohol with her powers as well. Skadi can also use alcohol defensively. Aside from just being able to transform into it, she has been shown dousing fires by producing low-alcohol beer to spray over the flames. Skadi has shown to ability to create alcoholic wings as well, staying aloft by using her alcoholic vapors to give her flight. In a simple act, Skadi can use her fruit to walk on water, as alcohol is less dense than water.[32] She can also disperse into alcohol and reform herself from previously created alcohol.[33] Norn called out to Angrboda, indicating she would be the next to force Skadi to grow.[34]

Like all devil fruits, this ability has its own weaknesses. This includes the weaknesses of sea water and seastone shared by all devil fruit users, which temporarily disable her powers and drain her of her stamina. However, she can walk on water to avoid this weakness to an extent. She has also indicated that fire can be a hinderance to her when she fully transforms into alcohol, though she later conquered with with the power of Busoshoku Haki and Sort Grand Spirit.[35] Lastly, people can consume the alcohol she creates. However, to discourage this, she often uses incredibly high proof alcohol to render them drunk faster or even give them severe alcohol poisoning.

Awakening[]

Skadi eventually gained the ability to awaken her Sake Sake no Mi, a sign of her mind and body becoming one with the fruit and greatly enhancing her power with it.[18] With this, Skadi gained the new power of converting her surroundings into alcohol as well.

Haki[]

Skadi Berserker Haoshoku

Skadi awakening Haoshoku Haki after Thrud was destroyed, showing she is able to use all three forms of Haki.

Skadi makes strong usage of Haki in combat, having been trained to use it largely by her father, Heidrun Thrymr. Skadi possesses the rare ability to use all three forms of Haki, using them in various ways to enhance her ability to fight.[19] The strength of her spirit has allowed her to master advanced forms of Haki as well, including the ability to project her Busoshoku Haki as an invisible force and the exceedingly rare ability to infuse her Haoshoku Haki into objects and her own body.[36][19]

Kenbunshoku Haki[]

Skadi started learning Kenbunshoku Haki from Heidrun Thrymr after joining the Ragnarok Pirates, being the first form of Haki she was trained to user for her own defense. Skadi indicted that she could read emotions and power levels, but that it was challenging for her to properly use and it could give her a headache. Despite this, she was made to practice it with her father.

From training with the King and her journey on the seas with the Jotunn Pirates, Skadi's usage of Kenbunshoku Haki has increased to a far greater extent. With it, she can easily identify the presence and spiritual forms of others around her from impressive distances. She can also far more quickly and safely read the power level of others, allowing Skadi to gauge how much power she needs to defeat them or to be wary of those she faces. She can also sense the emotions of others, allowing Skadi to detect if she is being lied to and the emotional states of others she interacts with to some extent.

The most important usage of the ability is to sense the intentions and actions of those she fights. This allows Skadi to predict their movements and attacks, but only into the immediate next few seconds. Combined with her Sake Sake no Mi and speed, Skadi can evade and morph around incoming attacks to avoid being hit - an impressive feat for one of her size. Along with her natural durability, this allows Skadi to fight for extended periods of time without taking much damage. Despite her increased skill with it, Skadi believes it to be the weakest of her Haki abilities.

Busoshoku Haki[]

Skadi Busoshoku Haki

Skadi using Busoshoku Haki.

Growing up on Elbaph, Skadi was taught to use Busoshoku Haki. Skadi was trained to excite her energy to use it and, after some further explanation, coated her arms with Busoshoku Haki for the first time. Initially, Skadi had difficulty deactivating the ability, but she eventually learned how to do so with guidance from Heidrun Thrymr.

Shortly thereafter, Skadi was already confident in her ability to use the power of Busoshoku Haki and safely deactivate it. With Busoshoku Haki, Skadi is able to increase the defenses of her body, being able to resist physical attacks with greater ease. Further, her raw physical strength is greatly enhanced, making the already strong Skadi monstrous in hand-to-hand combat. However, in her inexperience with the ability, Skadi accidentally injured herself with the ability when quickly crossing her arms.

Over her journey with the Jotunn Pirates, Skadi developed her usage of Busoshoku Haki further. From her continued usage of it, she came to master hardening her own body and imbuing it into her weapons. With this, Skadi has made Busoshoku Haki one of her most relied on abilities. Skadi would later enhanced her hardening by infusing her Haoshoku Haki into the armament as well.

Skadi also developed the ability to emit her Haki as an invisible force, carrying both the strength of her body and her spirit.[36] She initially only released the emission through punches, but has become skilled enough to emit them from any part of her body. Skadi can use this offensively to attack at a distance, but also to clear her surroundings rapidly in a defensive maneuver. Skadi also has shown the ability to merge the power of emission with her hammers to create devastating ranged attacks.[37]

Haoshoku Haki[]

Skadi Hao Infusion

Skadi shortly after learning to infuse her Haoshoku Haki into Mjolnir.

Skadi possesses the rare ability to use Haoshoku Haki, possessing the qualities to be a "king" and designating her a Supreme Ruler (覇王 Haō?).[19] Skadi awakened the ability shortly before beginning her journey as the captain of the Jotunn Pirates, after her hammer, Thrud, was destroyed by Daisy Yda in a conflict to prove Skadi's strength to venture forth with her own crew.[20] Skadi has shown several qualities that give her the qualities of a king. This includes being the daughter of Heidrun Thrymr, the King of Elbaph, a Yonko, and a user of advanced Haoshoku Haki. This also designated her a princess and, as the eldest, the one to one day inherit the throne. She also was a captain of her own crew of pirates, the Jotunn Pirates, before becoming a Jotunn within the more powerful Ragnarok Pirates under her father.

Skadi developed her usage of Haoshoku Haki over the course of her adventure. Instead of it only coming to her in times of severity, Skadi could eventually call upon the power at her command.[21] With it, Skadi can easily knockout pirates of inferior stock and at least catch other pirates off guard long enough to give her an opening. Upon returning to Elbaph, she was further trained in the power of Haoshoku under her father, Norn, and Angrboda. Her skill with it would allow her to momentarily clash with Norn's own usage of it before ultimately being overpowered.[38]

Their tutelage allowed her to fully master the ability. Further, during the course of their training, Skadi revealed the ability to infuse her Haoshoku Haki, an even rarer and more powerful skill.[19] While training with Angrboda, she accidentally infused Mjolnir with the power for the first time, wounding the elder giantess in the process.[39][40] Later, she would do it again with more of her will while clashing with her father, impressing the King of Elbaph.[22] The father and daughter pair would spend more time together to have her fully master the skill - though he would sometimes order her to train on her own.[41]

Weapons[]

Main articles: Thrud and Mjolnir
Skadi Queen Mjolnir

Skadi originally wielded Thrud, a golden hammer that initially belonged to her mother - Heidrun Embla.[42] As such, Skadi loved the hammer and considered it her greatest treasure. Skadi wielded it with great skill, being able to easily use it to unleash powerful blunt force attacks and combine it with her Haki for devastating attacks. Eventually, the hammer was destroyed by Daisy Yda - causing Skadi to awaken Haoshoku Haki.[20]

Her father, Heidrun Thrymr, would replace Thrud with Mjolnir, a powerful hammer treasured in Elbaph.[43] Between the strong, durable metal that makes the head of the hammer and the pommel and the Treasure Tree Adam wood that makes the the handle, Mjolnir is considered to be nigh indestructible. Upon giving it to her, Thrymr had Modi, his lightning Vaettir, possess it and impart its power into the mighty hammer.[44] While at first, Skadi did not have access to these abilities, as her control over her hammer and Haki grew, she came to be able to generate electrical attacks from the hammer.[45] As such, it has become a signature in Skadi's combat, being able to unleash attacks of sheer power, be combined with the power of her devil fruit and Haki, and give her power over lightning.

History[]

Past[]

Main article: The Grass is Greener

Skadi was born on Elbaph as the eldest child of Heidrun Thrymr, the King of Elbaph and a Yonko, and Queen Embla.[12][13] As such, she became the heir to the throne of Elbaph upon her birth.[9] Skadi was raised lovingly by her two parents, being doted on greatly by them - with many considering her spoiled as a result.[46] Skadi would not be raised alone, as her parents would later have another child: Nott.[12] She would also be raised alongside her half-giantess cousin, Nanna.[15] Skadi would also befriend Ruad M. Macha when they were children.[47] Skadi would play with dinosaur toys as a child, with her favorite one being a brachiosaurus.[48]

At some point in her childhood, Skadi would go to visit Nanna at the old Heidrun estate. While there, she would discover her cousin stuck in a small, hidden door within the castle.[49] The two would eventually enter and explore the room, discovering it led to an underground cavern with a large pool. The pair would explore the cavern and claim that it would become their secret playroom.[50] However, eventually the fun came to an end when a Toskr Squirrel. While the two attempted to flee, Nanna pushed Skadi away from the beast and was wounded by it.[26] Before the Toskr Squirrel could kill either girl, Norn arrived and killed the creature - saving the two girls and taking them to the King and Queen.[51]

Thrymr would quickly make sure Skadi was okay, while Embla tended to Nanna.[27] Skadi was deeply worried for Nanna from the time they were rescued by Norn to the doctors arrived in the castle.[52] After the doctor's treated Nanna, Skadi hugged her and proclaimed she would get stronger as to protect herself and Nanna from such an attack again - unaware of Nanna's resentment towards her in the moment.[53] Embla would send Skadi away to tell an attendant to prepare a room for Nanna, to which she sadly complied.[54]

Later in life, Skadi would join the Ragnarok Pirates as an Einherjar under her father's command.[10] In this time, Skadi would be trained to use Haki, even gaining the ability to emit her Busoshoku Haki.[36] In this time, Embla would also pass down her hammer, Thrud, to Skadi - becoming her most prized possession. At some point, Thrymr and Embla would have their third and final child: Surtr.[14] Unfortunately, Embla would pass away due to a disease outbreak that was created and engineered by the treacherous Einarr.

While the island mourned the loss of many, it greatly mourned the death of the kindly queen. The Heidrun family was all impacted, with Skadi missing her mother greatly and chasing her approval from beyond the grave. Further, it changed her relationship with Thrymr, as he closed himself off more after her passing. As such, though he still loved his children, he didn't express as much it as he once did.

At some point unknown, Skadi found and consumed the Sake Sake no Mi, a Special Paramecia granting her the power to generate, manipulate, and transform into alcohol at will.[17] Ironically, Skadi has indicated that prior to eating the fruit, she had a fairly low tolerance to drinking and got drunk quite easily.

Early in the year of 1610, Skadi was gathering supplies she believed she needed as her sibling, Heidrun Nott, came to check on her- with Skadi quickly revealing her intentions to form her own crew.[55] Skadi reveals her reasoning was that she was bored of the mostly safe and chaperoned voyages she had as an Einherjar on the Ragnarok Pirates.[10] Skadi hurried them along, fearful of being caught by their father Thrymr - the King of Elbaph and one of the Yonko. As they were leaving to meet at an inn, they ran into Torrono Njord, a Wotan and castle guard who joined their group.[56]

Skadi Queen Throne

Skadi envisions herself on the throne of Elbaph at the end of Song of the Jotnar.

Skadi finally returned to Elbaph after eight years at sea as the Captain of the Jotunn Pirates to the cheers of the Giants.[57] She is revealed to have garnered a bounty of Beli510,000,000 from her time at seas.[8] Amongst the people of Elbaph, none was prouder than her father, King Thrymr. However, despite his pride in her, he was annoyed at her parading herself as she did while being rash, unpredictable, and unrefined - much like he was in his youth.[58]

Skadi would celebrate with her crew and the people of Elbaph, but later go meet with her father to sadly ask why he was absent from the celebration. In response, Thrymr stated he was unimpressed by Skadi's acts of mere piracy, lack of maturity, and asked if she forgot her station as royalty.[59] Skadi defended her adventures and her growth as a leader and a warrior while on the verge of tears, feeling Thrymr made her time as seas seem pointless.[28] Thrymr said he dismissed nothing and that the sea was not the tutor he hoped it would be for Skadi. As such, he decided he would take her under his tutelage to make her master her growth at sea and prepare to rule Elbaph.[60]

Skadi was ecstatic about the prospect of training with her father. She noted that it was a rare occurence for him and thought it may be her reward for her growth and that his dismissiveness was meant to throw her off.[29] Skadi was led to a cavern deep in the heart of Elbaph where she was met with her father, Norn, and Angrboda - all users of Haoshoku Haki.[61] Thrymr told her this is where all the seas had taught her would come to fruition and make her into the ruler she was meant to become. He demanded Skadi show him her "will befitting a king".[62] Skadi was confused by what he meant and assumed she should show off the abilities she came to learn and master at sea. Using her Sake Sake no Mi abilities and the lightning of Mjolnir, Skadi attacked her father - to which he blocked with his Haoshoku-infused Gungnir and told her this was not what he wanted to see. Thrymr demanded to see her Haoshoku Haki as he had when she awakened it, using his own to prompt her.[63] Skadi revealed she gained to ability to use her Haoshoku Haki on demand when she was at sea and master it.[21] Skadi unleashed a burst of Haoshoku Haki with a grin. She knew she was not as powerful as any of the three before her, but hoped to gain even a small reaction from them to see her power was recognized.[64]

In reaction, Angrboda said she would have questioned the legitimacy of Skadi's bloodline if she wasn't even capable of that much and referred to her as a "little wolf" finding her "bark".[65] Angrboda thought of Skadi as a spoiled brat and a daddy's girl, but acknowledged she had grown stronger at sea. However, she was unimpressed overall, but watched with some level of interest as Skadi and Thrymr clashed to see how she had grown. She ultimately challenged Skad to show if that was the extent of her power or if she had more.[66] Meanwhile, Norn compared Skadi to a puppy learning how to howl, stating she braced herself for more. However, Norn said eight years was not a long time for giants and that it only made sense Skadi hadn't grown to that extent.[67]

Thrymr stated her will was there, but unrefined and unacceptable to rule in his place. He claimed Skadi's time at sea led her in the right direction, but Elbaph would be her tutor. It was then he revealed Skadi would fight against Norn, Angrboda, and himself - that she would be forged from unrefined iron into a mighty sword.[68] Skadi felt as though her time at seas was being dimissed by her father, a commander of his crew, and a noble of Ragnarok. Despite feeling crushed, she angrily told them to not insult her crew and what they accomplished.[69]

Norn was up first against Skadi, stating she would not go easy on Skadi was that would be an insult. She created Busoshoku-infused webs to prepare to fight the princess, stating Skadi should treat it as a fight to the death - though she knew Thrymr would prevent that from happening.[70] In response, Skadi infused Mjolnir and conjures an alcoholic-blade with her Sake Sake no Mi, infusing both with Busoshoku Haki. She countered the razer wire-like webs with her blade, intent on showing the strength of her will despite being weaker than Norn. Skadi then slammed Mjolnir on the ground, unleashing a massive discharge of electricity that threatened to his her three elders.[71] Norn slashed with her sword with enough force to great a gale of wind to clash with the lightning. She then conjured more webs and taunted Skadi as being to old for throwing a hissy fit and question if she found what she wanted to at sea. Skadi said she wasn't throwing a hissy fit, but was a storm that could not be controlled and found what she sought.[72] Skadi then released several alcoholic bullets at Norn. She wanted to impress the woman, Thrymr's most trusted crew member, and hoped even a single bullet to harm her.[73] Skadi defended her crew as achieving their goal, a fun adventure on the seas and that Skadi returned to make sure that Norn didn't think too highly of herself with Skadi gone - calling her a stray.[24]

Norn angrily took the attack, with several shots piercing her armor and causing her to bleed. Norn then told Skadi she was happy Skadi was able to have fun at sea, but mocked how Skadi took her father's fight to free giants from slavery - allowing "strays" like her freedom - for granted. She accused Skadi of allowing such stories to go in one ear and out the other. Norn attached her webs to her sword, controlling it from a distance as she told Skadi all she did was worry her father.[74] Skadi instantly regretted her words, but refused to apologize in the moment. Skadi defended her crew, stating they were sure to free giants they had come across as much as possible. Skadi blasted a bolt of electricity at Norn.[75] Skadi further defended herself, questioning if every giant had to live up to Thrymr and his dreams - if they are ever allowed to be themselves, have fun, and be selfish. She dissolved into alcohol and reformed from shots of alcohol she had fired at Norn, attacking her with Gram Tipsy Blade.[76][34] Norn used her sword to direct Skadi's lightning safely into the ground, but he frustration dulled her senses to Skadi's other attack. As such, Norn partially transformed to use her Busoshoku-infused spider legs to defend herself from the attack. Skadi excitedly joked about how the Einherjar would joke about Norn's abilities in a jovial manner and wanted to genuinely see her abilities. Skadi then created several alcoholic arms to throw stalagmites at Norn as spears before running forth with Mjolnir.[77] Norn used her webs to capture Skadi's stalagmites and destroy them as she told her a good leader has no time to be selfish with the lives that were in their hands.[78] Norn attacked Skadi with a drill of webs, to which Skadi blocked with her hammer and was knocked away.

In response, Skadi used her Surtr Grand Spirit form - igniting her alcoholic body and protecting herself from the heat with Busoshoku Haki to ignite the webs.[35] Skadi doubted Thrymr was free of selfishness, assuming part of him wanted to rule to simply be the highest authority of Elbaph - to which Norn responds she doens't know all his thoughts, but he has always put his people first.[79] Discarding her burning webs, Norn had her sword partially transform into its frog form - using the frog's ability to use its bones as penetrating Haki-infused weapons to clash with Skadi's flaming alcoholic blades. Skadi's alcoholic blades acted as a water jet cutter, with her intending to saw through the frog sword if she had to.[80] Skadi used the power of Haoshoku Haki again, this time stronger and focused solely on Norn compared to her prior usage. Norn sweated from the heat Skadi produced and used her own Haoshoku Haki to clash against Skadi. Norn feared they may split the ceiling of the cave. Overall, Norn's Haki won out in the end and knocked Skadi on her butt. Norn was impressed and said Skadi might make a good queen yet.[38] Achieving the goal of making Skadi use her Haoshoku better than before, the fight came to an end without a actual winner.[33] Norn called out to Angrboda, indicating she would be the next to force Skadi to grow.[81]

Norn tells Angrboda to not blow up the cavern as she drew out Skadi's power, the which Angrboda made no promises. She demanded that Skadi better how her she was worthy of ruling Elbaph if she wanted the support of the Bestla clan.[82] Angrboda used her powers to launch herself at Skadi. Skadi determined that the best defense was to counter the attack, launching herself at Angrboda as a torrent of alcohol while still using Surt Grand Spirit. Skadi lacked the power of the older, explosive warrior and was sent back, but controlled her landing to regain Mjolnir.[83]

Skadi filled her hammer with Busoshoku Haki and it hummed to life with electricity, with Skadi mocking Angrboda that the Heidrun already proved their superiority to the Bestla.[84] Angrboda retorted that it was Thrymr who bested the Bestla, not Skadi, and that the respect for him was not immidiately passed down to her. Angrboda struck Mjolnir with Tyrfing and attempted to blow Skadi away with an explosive punch, to which Skadi drowned out as best she would with a torrent of alcohol from her own fist - spraying alcohol everywhere.[85]

Angrboda told Skadi she wasn't weak, but didn't put her all in fighting - thinking Skadi was too soft and spoiled to roar like a true warrior of Elbaph. Angrboda then used her own Haoshoku Haki and swung her sword with Ikoku Sovereignty against Skadi. Skadi released her own Haoshoku Haki and used Vingthor Strike to counter Angrboda's sword attack.[86] Skadi did not see herself as a mere wolf, but as a powerful bear that had not yet claimed its forest. Standing up against Angrboda, Skadi expressed being tired of thought of as a spoiled princess who was handed everything. She declared she became her own captain and is the princess of the strongest nation in the world - not some helpless damsel as she attacked Angrboda with Haki emitted from her hammer.[87]

Angrboda was pleasantly surprised with Skadi's growth and thought she may make a worthy queen one day - merely taunting Skadi into acting with the power she possessed, the power of her father. Angrboda walked into Skadi's usage of Haoshoku Haki and while emitting her own to use a powerful Haki-infused explosion to counter Skadi's Special Paramecia allowing her to become intangible.[88]

Angrboda used more explosions to both attack Skadi and launch herself at the princess, using them to deliver a powerful strike to Skadi's stomach. Skadi emitted her Busoshoku Haki to defend herself from the explosion aimed at her, but the sheer force of the blast made her lose concentration. As a result, her shield faded and she was struck into a wall as the fires of the explosion washed over her. She then attempted to use her Kenbunshoku Hak to predict Angrboda's attack, but misread it and was struck with a punch more powerful than she was prepared to counter.[89]

Skadi forced herself back up despite the pain and sent three waves of alcohol at Angrboda with Njord Drunken Wave. Skadi merged her body into the third and final wave, preparing Mjolnir with Busoshoku Haki to strike Angrboda with it - unknowingly infusing her Haoshoku Haki into it for the first time.[90][40] Angrboda respected Skadi's refusal to yield and usage of her fruit - using her sword and explosions to avoid their power. However, she quickly recognized the power of Haoshoku Haki being infused into Mjolnir - much to her pleasure for combat. Angrboda used her own Haoshoku Haki to struggle against Skadi's, but allowed herself to be stuck by Mjolnir to gauge Skadi's power.[91]

Despite being wounded, Angrboda grabbed the handle of the hammer and struck Skadi in the solar plexus as her final attack, complementing Skadi as being able to become a monster. Skadi lost her breath, but coughed up that she made herself into a monster. She used Vingthor Strike to once again attack Angrboda and prepared to attack Angrboda with Mjolnir as her she shot herself at Angrboda as a vortex of alcohol.[92] However, Thrymr used the wind powers of the Vaettir Sleip to interrupt the fight.[93][94]

Thrymr acknowledged Skadi's time at seas and that her "fun" ultimately served a purpose. He demanded Skadi show him the fruits of her journey and told her that he would be her final challenge in the training.[95] Skadi was fearful of this, unsure of actually fighting her father as compared to just showing off her power as she did earlier. Despite wanting to prove her power any other way, Skadi knew she had to comply. She tightened her grip on a Haki-infused Mjolnir and launched herself at Thrymr to prove her growth.[96] Thrymr used the power of wind combined with Gungnir to block Skadi's attack and ordered her to show no fear - seeing the potential she possessed that surpassed a "simple conquerer.[97]

During their powerful clash, Skadi asked how Thrymr was when he started his journey. The mighty King og Elbaph revealed he was much like her - reckless, impulsive, and unrefined. However, his time as a pirate made him into the power leader he became.[98] Thrymr declared that he would lead Skadi would do the same to become worthy of being the Queen of Elbaph - saying he was doing this because he held her dearly to him.[99]

Thrymr then traded Sleip out of Gunning in favor of Skoll, igniting Gungnir with a great fire as he launched a burst of flames in the shape of a wolf's head at Skadi. Skadi felt the intense heat of the flames, using a torrent of beer to douse the powerful inferno.[100] Then, Skadi called her father out for coddling her, knowing the Vaettir were once far more monstrous in their appearance and were made into their current, cuter forms when Skadi was born to not scare her - according to Embla.[101]

Skadi used the power of lightning she gained from Modi, the Vaettir she was always the fondest of, to attack her father with Vingthor Ram Charge and then combined her Kraken Sloshed Arms and Gram Tipsy Harpoon to attack Thrymr with multiple liquid blades that acted as water-jet cutters.[102] Skadi questioned the important of Haoshoku Haki, seeing that all the gathered giants were focused on her using it, and questioned how she can be herself if Thrymr just wanted her to go through all he did.[103]

Thrymr used a burst of Haoshoku Haki to blow away Skadi's attacks and briefly showed a saddened expression. He then told her she was wrong, that he never wanted her to be hurt the ways he had been. He revealed he was hard on Skadi not to make her into him, but to ensure Elbaph would have a powerful ruler and surpass him - seeing great potential in her.[104]

Skadi lost focus from the burst of Haoshoku Haki and seeing the sadness in Thrymr, losing concentration in her attacks. She knew her father loved her, but felt this was the first time he was being honest about it in a while and recognized their shared pain in losing Embla. Holding back tears as she processed his beliefs in her - not being able to fail her parents, the people of Elbaph, or herself.[105] Skadi infused her hammer with Haki once again, but this time recognized as she was using her Haoshoku Haki and flowing it into the weapon.[106]

Skadi shot herself forth at Thrymr with a torrent of alcohol swinging the Haoshoku-infused Mjolnir at him. Thrymr watched with with pride as his daughter finally knowingly used the great power and saw the fiery spirit of Embla within his daughter - though still being unapologetically herself. Thrymr thought to himself of Skadi finally becoming all he and Embla had hoped for.[107]

Thrymr raised Gungnir with his own Haoshoku Haki infused into it to block the hammer. As the two conquering weapons collided, an explosion ripped through the cave and split the cavern - causing it to rain rocks until Norn created a web to protect the four in the cave.[108]. Thrymr reached out and placed his hand on Skadi, momentarily seeing his wife, and ended the fight. He told Skadi she fought well, that he was satisfied, and that Embla would be proud before dismissing Norn and Angrboda.[109][110].

Skadi happily received the praise and held back tears, missing her mother - wanting to hug her again. Despite him not being much for hugs, Skadi embraced him - with the man returning it.[111] Thrymr told Skadi she still had a ways to go for her trained - but was proud as she inherited his will.[112] Thrymr warned Skadi that she would inherit not just the Kingdom of Elbaph, but its people, allies, and enemies. He further warned Skadi that moving forward, history would have its eyes on her.[113]

The giants finally returned home to celebrate a successful training. Thrymr allowed Skadi to celebrate, but he returned home after telling her to return to the castle by nightfall - to which she agreed.[114] Thrymr prepared for an event in which he asked Norn to gather the Ragnarok Pirates and the Jotunn Pirates.[115]

Once the event began, Thrymr proudly spoke of Elbaph recovering from the plague that killed Embla. He said it inspired a desire to journey in his people, including Skadi and Nott with the creation of the Jotunn Pirates and beckoned Skadi to his side - to which she complied.[116] Thrymr spoke of Skadi's time with the Jotunn Pirates and that she had been honed from iron into steel.[117] Finally, he declared the Jotunn Pirates would be merged into the Ragnarok Pirates and Skadi be made into one of the Jotunn - the commanders of the Ragnarok Pirates.[11]

Skadi was shocked and happy to be recognized, but was overwhelmed. She felt strange that her time as a captain would be over, but accepted the position as she looked over the faces of those gathered. Norn, Nanna, and the members of the Jotunn Pirates congratulated her.[118] Finally, Skadi went to visit her youngest brother Surtr to see how he was. Skadi asked him to show her his latest bomb and told him she was home, to which he knew she would come back.[119]

Skadi would briefly unite with Mani Farbauti, her childhood crush.[1][120] After some time passed, Skadi stood alone in the throne room of Elbaph. While she was nervous, she acknowledged that the throne was her destiny and she was ready for it.[121]

Widow's Web Arc[]

Main article: Widow's Web

Skadi is first mentioned in this arc by Angrboda, speaking ill of both her and Heidrun Thrymr to Norn.[122] Angrboda mocks the way in which Thrymr seemingly gave nothing to Norn, but rapidly raised Skadi's position to that of Norn's in the Ragnarok Pirates and trained her usage of Haoshoku Haki upon her return to Elbaph.[123] Norn defended the treatment of Skadi, noting she was the heir to the throne and described her as Thrymr's favorite child. As such, it was only natural Skadi would receive favorable treatment and that Angrboda should cease her treasonous speech.[25] Angrboda would leave, reminding Norn of Skadi calling her a "stray dog" - leading to own emulating Skadi by drinking.[124]

Skadi later appeared, trying to convince Thrymr to tell her more about his past - to which he refused.[125] When Norn walked into the room, Skadi instead tried to convince her to share information about the past of the Ragnarok Pirates. To achieve this, Skadi acted like a cute little sister, much as she was in the past, to try and sway Norn's decision.[126] Despite Norn's turmoil over being reminded of Skadi's insult, she told Skadi of an account in which Giants they were attempting to save ended up slaughtering themselves over the topic of siding with the Ragnarok Pirates or the Marines. Skadi was downtrodden by this, having always seen the Ragnarok Pirates as victorious heroes.[127]

Norn comforted Skadi and told her to be grateful for the life she had lived, one without the turmoil of slavery and war - promising to tell her more eventually. Skadi was grateful, reverting to her typical demeanor and requesting a happier tale for their next conversation - to which Norn told her "beggars can't be choosers".[128] As she began to leave the room, Thrymr reprimanded her for bother both himself and Norn. He further ordered her to train and work on her ability to infuse her Haoshoku Haki, to which Skadi ultimately agreed with a simple hand gesture.[41]

After Skadi left, Thrymr told Norn to not indulge her too much - wanting Skadi to become a queen of her own styling. Norn thought there could be some benefit to having Thrymr tell Skadi more of his past and guide her decisions. Thrymr relented, admitting he should and told Norn Skadi did respect her - even if she didn't always show it.[129]

Skadi goes to visit Heidrun Nanna, her cousin.[15] Skadi saw Nanna was depressed and asked if she wanted tot fly to another island with her - to watch Nanna denied and thought to herself how different the cousins were.[130] Meanwhile, Redgrave D. Zelgadis and his forces move towards Elbaph to lead an attack. This was discovered as Skadi was training with her father as he was trying to make Skadi grow stronger and more fit to lead. When the news reached them, the father and daughter duo raced to defend their homeland.[131] As Thrymr and her raced to deal with the foreign threat, Nanna joined them as her draconic abilities were deemed useful by both Skadi and Thrymr. Skadi tried to argue with her father to allow Nanna to be free to act as she wished around the island, but was cut off by Thrymr.[132]

Skadi apologized to Nabba, to which Nanna said Skadi was not her elder or needed to defend her as she was excited to use her freedom - even if temporary. Skadi reminded her she was the older of the two, and described herself as the prettier one as well jokingly.[133] The two set out to find Zelgadis. Skadi told Nanna to turn into a full dragon so they could combine their strengths - though in truth Skadi simply wanted to ride Nanna in her full Fafnir form.[134]

Buried Past Arc[]

Skadi sought out the seer Oyne to learn more about the past of her father, frustrated with his withdrawn nature.[135] At first, Oyne declined to assist her out of respect for the privacy of the king. However, Skadi argued that she was the heir to his throne and that he wanted her to rule more like him. As such, it would make sense for her to learn about what led to Thrymr becoming the way he was to guide her in her own future rule. Finally, Oyne agreed to assist her after Skadi's bid to understand him better proved she wasn't after nefarious goals.[136]

The Invasion of Valhendor Arc[]

Main article: The Invasion of Valhendor

Skadi appeared from the lower levels of Byleistr's ship as he began an invasion of Valhendor to pull it under the territory of Elbaph and the Ragnarok Pirates.[137] It is quickly revealed Skadi was not supposed to be there, having not been involved with the planning of the attack. Instead, she merely drank a lot and fell asleep in the lower levels of the ship at random.[138] Despite this, Skadi sees a group of monstrous Wotans allied with Valhendor and decides to join the attack - holding off the Wotans to allow Byleistr to carry out the larger attack on King Alaric Bjornson.[139]

With Byleistr's approval, Skadi attacked the hybrids with her various abilities. She momentarily attacked them from the surface of water, being able to stand on it with her fruit.[32] Showing she is not completely dumb, Skadi made a clearing for the beach to avoid being pulled under water.[140] She relied heavily on Mjolnir's electrical abilities to continue to attack the various forms of the Wotan in and around the water while insultingly referring to the Wotan "overgrown fish sticks".[141] Skadi offered any surrendering Wotan a place within Elbaph.[142] Her attacked was successful, defeating the Wotans and it gave Byleistr and opening to further his attack.[143][144]

Desert of Memories Arc[]

Skadi was tasked with visiting the Badlands by Heidrun Thrymr to see if the land was being ruled in a manner honoring the legacy of Eris. If they were, Skadi was meant to honor this. However, if they were not, Skadi was meant to use the forces of the Ragnarok Pirates sent with her to claim the territory.[145] In beginning this operation, Skadi recruited Torrono Njord to accompany her, trusting him from their time on the Jotunn Pirates.[146] Regardless of claiming the region or not, Skadi was excited for the idea of a good fight while the duo reminisced about the simple times of the Jotunn Pirates. Despite this, Skadi showed excitement over the greater power they had under the Ragnarok Pirates and their personal growth.[147]

As the crew landed, Skadi gave orders to the crew to gather information and meet back at the ship by sundown. Skadi said she would investigate the colosseum and that if she wasn't back, she was likely there. She departed, having Njord go with her.[148] Entering the complex, Skadi excitedly watched the fighting going on within the arena.[149] However, Skadi quickly remembered their mission. Despite her annoyance, she stopped watching the fight and made her way to the owner's box. Finding it empty and too small to enter, she shouted to the crowd that she sought the leader of the arena and was there on behalf of Elbaph.[150] This caused a silence to befall the arena as all eyes fall on Skadi and Njord. However, Pires Matilde, the organizer of the arena, appeared shortly after. Matilde quickly and correctly guessed Skadi's royal heritage and introduced herself. However, she quickly said that her name was the only free answer and the rest would have to be earned from showing her the power of the giant duo.[151]

  • Skadi's name and her primary epithet are Scandinavian in origin, drawing inspiration from figures in Norse mythology and Scandinavian culture.[1]
    • Heidrun can translate to "bright clearing". It is the name of a mythical goat that consumes leaves from a mythical tree - often identified with Yggdrasil, the world tree - and produces mead for the warriors of Valhalla from its udders.
    • Skadi can translate to "shadow" and is the name of the Norse jotunn and goddess of the mountains, winter, and hunting, amongst other things.
    • Skadi's middle name is Astrid. This is an old Scandinavian name that means "divinely beautiful" and is a common name for women in the Scandinavian region. Astrid was chosen to reflect to attractive appearance that Skadi possesses and the hope of her family for her to live a good life. It is the only part of her given name that is not derived from a known mythical source.
    • Her epithet of "Valkyrie" is derived from a classification of the same name of powerful warrior women. The Valkyries exist to guide the souls of warriors slain in battle to the halls of Valhalla, where they train for the battle of Ragnarök and are served mead by the Valkyries.
    • Skadi being referred to as "Berserker" is a reference to a class of Nordic warriors that fought in a trance-like fury.
  • Skadi was almost named Freya after a different Norse goddess initially. However, the author thought Freya was the most obvious choice and wanted something more unique. Skadi was chosen in reference to one of the author's favorite characters in Fate/Grand Order.
  • Skadi is meant to resemble a gender swapped version of Thor, based on his typical attributes in the myths. This includes her usage of hammers representing his most famous weapon, her red hair representing his own fiery hair in most myths, and her horn ornaments meant to represent the goats that draw his chariot. Aside from Thor, Skadi borrows traits from the Valkyries and the jotunn of Norse mythology.
  • Skadi's birthday of December 5th is a reference to the day that the 18th Amendment of the Constitution of the United States was repealed by the 21st Amendment, thus ending the era of Prohibition in the United States. This is sometimes referred to as National Repeal Day.[1]
  • Skadi's signature laugh of "sakikiki" (さキキキ?) is based on the name of her devil fruit and a common mispronunciation of the word sake.[1]
  • Skadi's ideal voice actresses would be Saori Hayami and Wendee Lee for Japanese and English respectively.[1] Hayami is also the voice actress for Yamato in the canon One Piece series.
  • Skadi's original sketch was commissioned by Koda before giving it as a gift to the author of the character. The author decided what colors would be used for the character.
  • Skadi was nominated to be the featured character in September 2024 for the first featured poll. In it, Skadi ultimately tied for second place with Kirimoto Aphrodite, losing to Baal. As such, she was automatically included in the featured character voting in October 2024, in which she won the vote to be featured.
  • Skadi is her author’s personal favorite character of the ones he has created, both in and out of the One Piece universe.

    • If Skadi was real and living in the current time period, she would wear casual clothes. Her favorites would be shorts and cropped hoodies to show off her legs and belly, as well as for comfort.
    • It is said that when Skadi dies, Death would appear to her as a bartender who would share tales of her life to appease her as she slips away into the afterlife.
    • Skadi's greatest fear is being forced to go to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.
    • Before going to sleep, Skadi drinks a liter of beer with three shots of hard liquor in it - usually whiskey.
    • The virtue of the seven virtues that Skadi best represents is diligence, while the sin of the seven deadly sins she best represents is gluttony.
    • If Skadi was faced with the trolly problem, due to her size, Skadi would simply lift the trolly and save everyone in the process.
    • If Skadi had a Seraphim clone, it would be known as S-Goat (Sエス-ゴート Esu-Gōto?). Since Skadi already uses a Paramecia in the form of a Special Paramecia-type devil fruit, she could still possess the Sake Sake no Mi through the power of Green Blood. However, as the hypothetical S-Goat would appear to be a young child, she would be given Green Blood based on the Soru Soru no Mi to emulate the powers of her father, as to avoid the idea of a drunken minor.
    • If Skadi had become a Marine instead of a pirate and got promoted to the rank of Admiral, her codename would be Kinyo (金羊 Kinyō?, literally meaning "Golden Goat"). However, she would likely be forcefully assigned to SWORD due to her reckless, impulsive nature.

Her Zanpakuto would be called Suiyo Gunshin (酔余軍神 Drunken War God?) and would just increase the amount of spiritual pressure she exudes under the power of Shikai while becoming a larger, heavier sword. This would make her more powerful and unhinged as she fights. Her Bankai, Juchi Suiyo Gunshin (呪地酔余軍神 Cursed Land Drunken War God?), would take on a form similar to her hammer and allow her to steal spiritual energy from those she fights to further her own power and weaken them with each clash, though she would take on more aspects of drunkenness the longer she uses it and would risk killing herself if she lost control of it.
