Hecha Crabs are a species of Crustacean native to Kano Country. Also known as Tea Drinking Crabs, this large part of their diet is why they are considered a delicacy on the island.

Overview[]

Hecha crabs are large crustaceans native to the island nation of Kano Country and are capable of growing anywhere from fix to eight feet in length from head to rear with legs reaching up to ten feet and weighing in at just a little over nine hundred pounds on average. Their most noteable feature is of course their durable hard-shelled bodies and massive claws with one claw being larger than the other.

Hecha crab can primarily be found near the coastline or shortly up river from the coast, spending time amongst the rocks and sand of the beach. Regional varients can be found within the four regions of Kano with bright red crabs being found in the Zhu region, vibrant blue being found in the Qin, beautiful gold being found in the Bai region, and inky black in the Xuan region.

Regardless of their color the crabs all share the same behavior in the form of their insatiable love for tea. While they spend the majority of their time near or around water Hecha Crabs will often venture out several times a day to gather tea leaves from around their habitat. After gathering these leaves they will often try to find a puddle or other somewhat small container of water. If they cannot find one, a Hecha Crab will simply dig a hole in the ground and gather water to fill it.

Once they have found their "pot", Hecha crab will use their largest claw, rear it back and lock it's join, building up pressure before releasing it with enough force to instantly bring their water to a boil through what some refer to as a primitive form of Hasshoken. From there they will add their leaves and wait for the tea to be made. At which point they will use their claws to scoop the tea into their mouths making a noteable and easily recognizeable "Smooching" or "Kissing Sound" as they do so.

While Hecha crab are not normally dangerous to humans, they will defend their tea with their lives as well as attempt to steal any tea that someone they encounter might be carrying on hand. As such, the only real danger they represent is toward those enjoying tea near the shore or picking tea leaves in the forests.

Cultural Significance[]

Hecha crabs are considered a delicacy in every region of Kano, as a result of their large diet of tea the taste of Hecha crab meat is altered depending on the type of tea they have consumed most of throughout their life. As a result, Hecha crab can be paired with endless combinations of sauces, dips, and spreads to create unique and delicious dishes to satisfy even the most picky of eaters.

Trivia[]

  • He Cha comes from the Chinese "喝茶" meaning "To Drink Tea".
  • It was the idea of User:Arukana to make the sound of the crabs drinking sound like kissing as a joke on their romaji name being Kissagani.
