"Doppelganger" Gladius Marcus is a Prince of Dressrosa and a Centurion of the Legion Pirates. With the power of his Kuro Kuro no Mi, Marcus was rendered into a Multiple Human (複数人間 Fukusū Ningen?) with the power to make clones of himself and inanimate objects. Using this on himself and his weaponry, Marcus is considered a one-man legion. Despite his abilities, Marcus has a fragile mental state due to the nature of his upbringing under his father, the Yonko Gladius Caesar.

- Like many in the Gladius family, Marcus is named after a Roman emperor. In his case, he is named for Marcus Aurelius.
- Gladius is a Latin word that means "sword" and typically refers to a certain type of sword. However, it was used to refer to any type of sword in classical antiquity.
- Marcus is a name that means "dedicated to Mars", the Roman god of war and the guardian of agriculture and the Roman people.
- In many ways, Marcus is a foil to the author's main character, Heidrun Skadi.
- Marcus' ideal voice actors would be Tomokazu Seki and Anthony Starr for Japanese and English respectively.
