The Gishi Gishi no Mi is a paramecia type devil fruit that allows the user to obtain different effects and blessings after performing a ritual. It's currently used by Akutsuno Ryosei.
Etymology[]
"Gishi" comes from "Gishiki,儀式" that means ritual in Japanese.
Appearance[]
The fruit has a pinwheel shape of varying colors that fade from purple to yellow with small splashes of light blue on the spirals; in the center it has a yellow stem that splits in two ending in a leaf on each side.
Strengths and Weaknesses[]
This fruit gives its user the ability to obtain different effects and blessings depending on the ritual performed. The more knowledge the user has about rituals the better the effects obtained. From simple gestures to complex dances, each ritual carries with it a mythology; to achieve the desired effect the ritual must be completed from beginning to end or nothing will be achieved.
Effects can vary widely, from small singular blessings to area effects if the ritual allows. There are three categories of rituals known at present: rituals for blessings, rituals for effects, and finally Akutsuno Ryosei's secret, demonic rituals.
The better the mastery of the fruit, the less the ritual requirements will be to achieve the same effects.
Usage[]
The result of a ritual can be applied to oneself, to another person, or even to objects as in the case of Ryosei's sword. Although the effectiveness of the effects drop a lot if they are not used for oneself. An example that explains this difference is when Ryosei performs a ritual for himself or his sword, he will get 100 percent of its effectiveness while if he wants to imprint an effect on a talisman to be given to a needy person, its effectiveness ranges between 10 and 40 percent depending on the complexity of the ritual. The matter changes for rituals with offensive or general effects, as they are made to render 100% always, for example a "rain dance" will always make it rain at 100% regardless of whether it is used to help irrigate a field or serves Ryosei.
As mentioned earlier, the effect of a ritual is reflected in its execution. Applying simple effects such as blessings of health, good fortune, or low-range weather conditions require Ryosei to use simple and quick gestures. If a more powerful form of the same blessings is to be achieved, the rituals will be longer and more elaborate.
In the case of rituals with special and very powerful results, there is a need for much more effort, steps performed in a certain way, symbols depicted, and offerings, as in the case of Ryosei demonic rituals that may require different things such as whole sacrifices of victims or different amounts of one's own blood, starting from a few drops to enough to write symbols.
Techniques[]
Benign Rituals[]
- Ame (雨 Ame, literally meaning "Rain"). The simplest of rituals based on the rain dance, thanks to Ryosei's great experience and skill, this ritual can be performed with a random simple gesture at will. Performed the ritual with the right intention, clouds in the sky will form and rain will begin to fall. Usually this ritual is performed near cultivated fields where water is scarce for various reasons.
- Un (運 Un, literally meaning "Fortune"). A very simple ritual, it is performed with a simple dance done by a turn and a bow. By performing the ritual with the right will, Ryosei can give a light blessing of good luck and good omen directly to a person or on a talisman to be hung on the walls of the house.
- Kenko (運 Kenkō, literally meaning "Health"). A really simple ritual, it works in the same way as "Fortune" but the result will be a mild physical cure, useful for minor illnesses or minor injuries. It can be applied directly to the person or to a talisman. The ritual performed with the right will involves the hands joined in a gesture of prayer, then raised to the sky and then brought down during a bow.
- Seimei no Ki (生命の樹 Seimei no Ki, literally meaning "Tree of Life"). An advanced ritual that has remarkable healing effects but can only be used for Ryosei and only once per battle. Three conditions are needed to perform this ritual, the first is that Ryosei must have at least one serious wound, the second is to draw four spiritual symbols on the body with his own blood, and the third is to perform the ritual dance after burning at least one tuft of grass. The dance consists of three twirls with one foot pivoting and the other outstretched to create a circle, hands joined upward and then he drops them to the ground picking up some and throws it on his body. He cannot move from the circle until the conclusion of the ritual otherwise he must start again from the beginning.

By invoking the phrase "Orochi" , it will invoke a unique effect onto the weapon as it will cause seven more blades to sprout from the main blade, transforming it into an eight-branched weapon, capable of delivering eight attacks within a single strike. Additionally, this can be used in tandem with "Kakuriyo" to sprout seven additional walls, allowing it to take on attacks of higher calibur. This technique is a reference to Yamata no Orochi.

Demonic Rituals[]
Demonic rituals take inspiration from various depictions and events in the Buddhist and Japanese hells, as well as from general hells and demons. They can be used in three ways: Evocation, in which the effect of the event is evoked on the battlefield, or Incarnation, in which the effect is embodied by Ryosei himself or in his sword Tenchi Shometsu. Of course, Ryosei being the summoner, he is immune to the effects, Demonic Pact in which one sacrifices or pledges something to gain another.
- Yomi Magatsu (黄泉禍津 Yomi Magatsu, literally meaning "Underworld Calamity"); Based on the story of Izanami dying and being corrupted by the pollution of the underworld, the user is influenced by their negative emotions and effect their other rituals in the sense they have been "blackened" and strengthened. This is done by the user stabbing the ground and uttering a long ritualistic passage, invoking the pollution and evils of the Underworld.
- Yakusa no Ikazuchi (八色雷公 Yakusa no Ikazuchi, literally meaning "Eight Thunder Gods"): A corrupted version of "Takehaya Gorai" based on the Eight Thunder Gods who surrounded Izanami upon her entering the land of the dead. Each are meant to represent the various natures of thunder.

While drawing a snowflake with blood onto the sword, the user will invoke a chant. This will result in the weapon being wrapped within a chilling wind, capable of causing frostbite. This bestows the user with an additional freezing effect on their attacks, effecting pre-existing techniques while allowing access to new ones. Arbuda is the "blister" Hell in Hinduism and Buddhism, known for being a dark and frozen plain surrounded by icy mountains and continually swept by blizzards.
- Lotus Hell. Based on one of Buddhism's eight cold hells, "Padma", it evokes an incredible sharp icy wind that penetrates the flesh of enemies. There is also its enhanced version Great Lotus hell based on "Mahapadma", with a sharp cold that penetrates with greater violence. To perform this ritual one must draw by any means a six-pointed snowflake and wet its center with any drop of blood.
- Sanjiva (鉄火 (サンジヴァ) Sanjivua, literally meaning "Red-Hot Iron"): The basic of the "hellfire ritual" (業火の儀式 gōka no gishiki) and a staple within Ryosei's arsenel. By using a block of sulfur akin to a flintstone, the user will invoke a chant while sparking it against their blade. This will result in the weapon being coated within hellish flames, burning hotter than most normal flames. This bestows the user with an additional burning effect on their attacks, effecting pre-existing techniques while allowing access to new ones. Sañjīva is known as the "reviving" Hell in Hinduism and Buddhism where the ground made of hot iron heated by an immense fire.
- Tapana (焦熱槍 (タパナ) Tapana, literally meaning "Scorching Heat Spears"): By igniting objects while invoking a ritualistic dance, the user can cause the flames to condense within themselves and conjure a dense volley of flaming spear-like projectiles. - Pratapana (大焦熱;槍 (プラタパナ) Puratapana, literally meaning "Great Scorching Heat Spears"): An enchanced version of "Tapana" where the user will use a "Sanjiva"-enhanced sword to ignite objects while invoking a ritualistic dance, changing the spears into tridents and bestowing the projectiles with the properties of hellfire. Much like the original, the user can bombard the foe with the spear-like projectiles and burn whoever happens to come in contact with them as well as detonating upon impact. Pratāpana is the "Great Heating" Hell in Hinduism and Buddhism where demons with black bellies, flaming eyes and hooked teeth haunt the ones reborn and drag them everywhere.
- Kalasutra (黒縄縛 (カラスートラ) Karasūtora, litereally meaning "Black Rope Bind"): A set-up ritual where the user will draw a ritual circle in the ground with the aid of their sword or another sharp tool. Upon completing the sigil, the user will invoke a phrase which will cause several black ropes to spawn from the circle and ensnare the desired target, locking them in place. This is usually followed up with another technique. Kālasūtra is the "black rope" Hell in Hinduism and Buddhism where pains experienced in this hell are ten times more severe than those in Sañjīva.
- Avici (無間竈 (アヴィチ) Avuichi, literally meaning "Uninterrupted Furnace"): An extension of "Kalasutra", where the user will stab his flame-coated sword at the edge of the demonic circle, causing the ropes to ignite with hellfire and travel towards the ensnared enemy. Once they converge within the center, they will detonate and envelop the foe within a large pillar of demonic flames, burning them alive. Avīci is the "uninterrupted" Hell in Hinduism and Buddhism where beings are roasted in an immense blazing oven with terrible suffering.
- Reborn from Hell. Based on "Taizan Fukun no Sai", one of the most secret and powerful onmyōdō rituals. It is jealously guarded by the few who know it, and strongly coveted by those who don’t. In this ritual, the supplicant beseeches Lord Taizan, Great King Enma, and the other judges of Meido and Jigoku to lengthen a person’s life span, save someone from death, or even restore life to the dead. In this demonic twist, Ryosei can summon souls from hell, these will appear as spirits made of strong flames that burn on contact. To activate this ritual one must offer souls to summon the same number from hell, these souls must be taken from victims who are in the ritual area, whether they are already dead or just killed. One cannot take the soul of a person who is still alive. The ritual lasts for 3 minutes in which the flaming spirits continue to attack relentlessly.
- Vritra Mudra (
地獄竜の刻印 Vuritora Mudora, literally meaning "Mark of the Hell Dragon"). A demonic pact in which Ryosei pledged his soul to gain greater power. With this pact the seal of the Hell Dragon appeared on his left arm with his head placed over his heart. This seal will remain for life and forces him to fight with a part of his entire strength sealed and unusable. Only at the peak of battle and using his own blood flowing from a wound suffered, Ryosei can temporarily release the seal by drawing a line of blood all along it. By doing so, his usable strength will be whole plus an extra 50 percent infernal strength obtained from the demonic pact. Hell flames will boil violently from his body being fire his main element. If used with fruit awakening, this demonic pact can also be performed for other people.

In order to even manifest this unique flame, the user must meet five requirements: they must have previously used normal fire and hellfire in that order, the "Vritra Mudra" must be unsealed, an ancient sword dance must have been preformed and finally, the user has preformed a prayer with five unique words written in blood on the blade. Once these have been done, the earth will briefly split open as a reddish black flame will sprout forth and surround the user.
