Month of Freedom[]
The voices of movement and work were everywhere hearable. Children laughing running through the streets, vent-men shouting, while shop after shop was prepared. Light lightened up in paper lamps, floating on top of the shops, the evening darkness was illuminated in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Music played by various people and dancers making a show for various people to see.
After all it was close to the yearly festival in Wano Country, the day of celebration being finally freed by the tyranny of Kurozumi Orochi and the Beast Pirates, especially after the fall of the beast, Kaido himself. So this day was also a reminder and way of thanking for the freedom they finally enjoy, yet for the others a reminder, that the borders of Wano should stay close to avoid a disaster like that again. And this contrast was still presented by the views of the co-shoguns that currently rule their country, causing a bigger and bigger cross between the fractions in Wano.
Yet this year was a special year, an event no one expected ever to happen, raising happiness and anger in equal measures. Today the one shogun against opening the borders, after having the talk with the other decided for the events of the festival to temporarily open the borders to test the waters. So there was a mixture of uneasiness and excitement in the air, with new faces appearing on Wano to enjoy the incoming festival.
“With that it should be done, Shogun-sama. Security was put on high alert, as well the control who could pass and who not. Festival preparations are nearly done for the evening, preparing the big ceremony and theater to show again how the dragon finally was slain.”
A person said with a big scroll in his hand and wearing glasses, going point after point down to make sure every point and order was done and not forgotten. After all, the shogun order stood above everything else.
"Exceptional work." Sitting before the scroll-wearing individual, Kozuki Ise sat at a large wooden desk with a myriad of papers scattered across the wooden surface. Today was an important day not just for the past of Wano but the future as well. It had taken quite some time in order for the Daytime Shogun to convince her stubborn husband to temporarily open Wano Country to the likes of outsiders. This event alone would decide how the borders of her homeland would either slowly open, ushering them into a new age or remain shut, continuing their isolation from the world.
"Make sure to contact my brothers within the Shinsengumi and ANBU. While I have faith in the likes of our samurai, there are certain areas I wish to remain guarded from the likes of outsiders." Her golden eyes shined with the intensity of the sun behind, conveying her seriousness of the order. "My husband has placed faith in my idea and I wish to show him such..."
“As you wish, Ise-sama. I will contact them immediately.” The man replied, before putting the scroll down, before giving a bow of respect, only to rise back from it, as he remembered something.
“On the topic of outsiders. We got into contact with a very strange man…very strange, as I never saw a man with a head like that. He called himself something of a news reporter and he got in contact with Yuto-sama. He offered, before the start of the festival an…interview, saying something as a great opportunity to show the world Wano and their leaders. While Yuto-sama was at first skeptical, he sent this message to ask you to join him and the man and decide from there, as he believed you might be interested, Ise-sama.”
"Hm, I see..." Despite the calmness within her voice, Ise's mind was working at a mile per minute. Her husband hadn't relayed this information to her prior to giving his blessing to go through with the temporary opening of Wano. Was this meant to be some type of test, attempting to see how she would react to an unknown or a sign of his blessing, offering aid in a way she hadn't thought off? There were many angles she could look at this from and all could be viewed as right or wrong.
"What am I thinking? Yuto wouldn't treat this like a game...." The white-haired woman sighed, rubbing her temples in exasperation. The stress of working on this festival was getting to her. Besides, if it were a test, he wouldn't have showed up.
With a nod, she spoke confidently. "Of course. I'll join him in this interview."
“This message will then be sent to Yuto-sama. The interview should be held according to Yuto in 1 hour, in the guest room of your mansion, Ise-sama. Other than that I will carry your tasks and messages around.”
The man replied, bowing another time, before leaving the room and the shogun alone in her room.
In the guest room of the mansion of the shoguns, preparations were done, as the room usually was just a room to sleep, with the help of a few strange workers of the even weirder man, it transformed into a literal studio. Having a big desk in the middle of the room, while across from it was a big, red couch, where three people could comfortably sit. Cameras were prepared, looking at the perfect ankle to record everything, while lights were set up to gather the perfect illumination of the room.
While sitting on the desk was the reason for all that was happening. While wearing for the sake of the atmosphere, traditional wano clothes, the big feature was hard to ignore, as the head of this person was a literal big screen. Taking a cup of water, he literally held it to his screen, the liquid literally vanishing on the screen.
“So? I would still show my gratitude for both of you to accept the offer from me to show the world a hint of Wano. And what better than this coming out of the mouths of the leaders themself, right?”
Code replied, his face projecting a big and welcoming face.
Ise nodded in agreement, smiling softly. "Indeed and we offer our thanks for you for acting as a messenger to show the rest of the world how Wano Country has evolved. Hopefully, this will be the start of many interviews and previews in the world beyond our borders."
“BuzBuzBuzBuz! Depending on how this interview and this festival went I am sure we will have more time in the future. Hence depending on how this interview went I have a request to both of you, shoguns.”
His screen shifted showing a clock, which was ticking.
“But that is after the interview and probably after the festival. For now you both have any questions about how this interview will go or other kinds of questions to avoid misunderstandings?”
Standing next to the woman was that of her husband dressed in ornate apparel but one that radiated authority and kindness out to any who saw him. The shogun of night and rider of space, Hiromasa Yuto.
“Yes, Code San as my dear wife has said it’s a pleasure to have the honour to interact with you. Though as you offered, I would like to know the kind of questions to be offered beforehand if that is alright?”
Coordinating with an honorable tone and extended questions of curiosity to the man. His approach was quite polite, with little to no form of rudeness to be found in asking the newscaster.
"We also wish to know if there will be anyone who will be taking photographs of Wano Country. From what I've learned, you prefer using your Den Den Mushi to capture pictures over paintings." Ise said, briefly recalling the information she had read. "We'd like to offer an escort to show them certain landmarks and places of interest."
The face vanishing was replaced by a projection of a hand sticking out its finger as it waved at the duo, like a gesture to deny their request or at least one of their requests.
“As much as I would like to do it, it would ruin the purpose and excitement of an interview, Shogun-san. But of course you are able to refuse to answer questions if you want, as long as you are polite.”
Turning his attention to Ise, his screen shifted to show a picture of a camera.
“While I have experts at taking pictures, I would definitely appreciate the help, especially from someone who knows this beautiful place better than anyone.”
As he thanked the crew pulled out a paper showing the words “Start in 10 Seconds.” Without wasting much time Code took his pose on his chair as strange snails were holded with eyes replaced by screens, all pointed at Code, with the lights illuminating the room.
“We are live in 3, 2, 1, Action!”
One of the people called out, before the intro got played.
“Around all the blues, from high and low, we will search for answers. No matter the distance or dangers we will always report. After all every story, big or small, happy or sad, violent or peaceful, everything is worthy to be reported. And we take our all, that you guys will get informed, after all that is not only our job but our responsibility.
We are here for you to ALL TO SEE! With your host, Code!”
Only once it was done all pointed at Code as he waved at the audience with a big and professional smile.
“Welcome my loyal viewers for another episode of your favorite news report channel in the world. Seeing it through my new attire, you could guess today we have a special episode. After all even some of you knew, but at this moment the once closed country, a country known to give birth to one of the strongest warriors and best swordsmen, the world ever hoped to see. Samurai, Ninjas, weapons and ramen. All it led to the one and only country, Wano. Normally closed down, for this one day in the festival to celebrate their freedom from the monster, who ruled this country with an iron fist, the leaders decided to open the borders again.”
Making a wide gesture with his screen showing a big star in the middle, it soon turned to the direction of the two figures being darkened, with the lights turned down.
“And how about celebrating this day, by knowing the reasons and motivation of the country. And who is better than the most important figures in Wano? After all, only the best for our viewers. Known to be the top dogs off Wano, also called Shoguns, my viewers gave a big applause for our guests..”
The light illuminating the two figures as a massive applaud was heard in the background.
“Hiromasa Yuto and Kozuki Ise! Welcome to my show! It is a pleasure to have you both to share your knowledge and views to the world!”
"It's a pleasure to be here." Ise smiled, her words bathed in happiness. "We are grateful to show a glimpse of Wano."
“Yes, it’s an honor to be here and speak with you all on such a momentous day.” Coming after, Yuto raised a hand to wave at the cameras with a smile to everyone who was watching.
“I must say it was quite a surprise to hear that one day Wano opened their borders for us outsiders. And of course I needed to go there, not only to show the world Wano, but also for my own curiosity. After all, it is my first time being in Wano as well.”
Leaving back on his chair he projected a big smile, while his projected eyes showed curiosity.
“And I think my own curiosity will be perfect for this interview, which brings us to the first question. Why are the borders closed and now all of sudden opened?”
"Talk about opening hard..." Despite her desire to avoid such an initial question, Ise also knew it was better to simply move forward with the truth. With a soft sigh, she mentally braced herself.
"There were a number of reasons behind Wano's isolation in the past. The action of our ancestors aside, we are a nation rich in resources and culture - a factor many people which exploit for themselves. The number of Meito which exist within the world are often from our country, stemming from our expertise in blacksmithing. There is also our natural production of seastone, a boon against the number of Devil Fruit users who exist on the sea."
Ise closed her eyes, recalling the memories of the passages within the journals of her predecessors. "It was these things which led Wano to being placed under the rule of a tyrant in the past. What made us a glorious land also enticed people to come and subjugate us..." However, as swiftly as she closed them, her eyes opened to reveal a radiant glow. "However, we were liberated in the moonlight by a kind soul. Yet we weren't ready to join the world. We needed to recover from the hardship we went through. The land nor the people were ready to accept those be4yond our walls."
“Hmmm. Very interesting and understandable as I only heard stories about this monster, who took over your country. It must be a very dark time for your people and definitely justified to take your time.”
Code said, tilting his head, as he tapped on his notebook.
“But considering the nature of the events, I assume there was a lot or at least some form of dislike of the idea of opening the borders, right? If so, how did you both calm the masses down to finally open the borders again, even just for this day?”
“Yes. As you say there have been pushbacks. Some do not agree with the choice of opening, with others seeing it as a risk in and of itself for danger to arise.” Yuto spoke in earnest, neither sugarcoating it nor hiding behind the illusion of no conflicts behind today's main decision.
“But beyond all that, how we maintain calmness is the trust the people have for us. My wife and I have never led our people astray and they know it too. As a ruler, one must not just inspire obedience through fear alone, but fostering goodwill creates stronger ties. They hold us in high trust and regard to the belief that the decisions we make are for the betterment of them and we reciprocate that by honouring that to which they bequeath to us. To that end, we ensure their protection whistle opens the door to the chance of a better future.” Giving a dignified response, Yuto gave his earnest words on the matter. Showing his care not just for the people but in his wife's dreams of the future.
“Spoken like a true leader. Surely I take the initiative to talk for you people and say they are lucky to have you both as leaders of their nation. You may not have seen a single interview or report from me yet, but trust me I saw and interviewed way worse.”
Praising the duo he made a hand gesture, as the crew swapped a bit of lights to adjust the atmosphere.
“Especially my deepest respect, as I heard with the end of the war approaching I heard the Animal Kingdom attempted to take over your lands. So still to have the kingdom in control and even doing this festival showed a lot of strength and willpower to keep everything in line.”
Waving his hand he let out a sigh, his smile becoming even wider.
“But I think we should not focus too much on the negative and actually showcase what Wano is. Which brings me to the next question. As a king and queen was not uncommon, talking with few people they all hold you both on either equal level of respect or showed different sides of favoritism, making me wonder? Is it a shogun thing in Wano, that you have two shoguns all the time or is it even in your lands something special?”
"Well, our way of ruling is unique." Ise crossed her arm, tilting her head ever-so slightly. "Typically, there is a singular Shogunate who hold dominion over the Daimyo who rule the different region. However, we elected to do things different. We actually borrowed the method of having two rulers in accordance from an ancient ally of ours. It was done to prevent us from being caught off guard at any given moment, allowing Wano to be safe at any given second."
Placing a hand on her husband's own, she continued. "Whereas I rule over the daytime, my other half rules over the nighttime. Together, we present a unified front."
“That's a very interesting and unique way of ruling, something I never heard of.”
Code said with a hint of curiosity, before tilting his head a bit.
“Hearing about your ancient allies. Would make me wonder, who they might be and how the current relationship with them would be?”
"That's relatively personal. Due to the nature of our allies, we don't wish to paint a target on their back for simply associating with us." While she was optimistic towards opening Wano, she had no desire to simply blabber on about the every single detail regarding Wano's inner workings and who they called as friends. "However, the relationship we have with them is relatively well. It was them who came to our aid when we sought to free ourselves from the cruel rule of Dragon King Kaidou."
She smiled, briefly recalling a memory of a white-furred wolf Mink who taught her. "They are brothers and sisters who we will always accept."
“It is a fair conclusion, as I apologize if my curiosity was too much. I of course am not to paint a mark on Wano, especially as you both gratefully accepted this opportunity for me to talk with you two.”
Code apologized, his screen projecting a figure, which bowed in apology in front of both of them, before being replaced by the face again.
“But I think I should step out a bit about this topic. Seeing a lot of viewers not even know what Wano Kuni even is, how about if one or both of you are so kind and explain to the world what they could expect, once the borders are finally open. What is Wano?”
“That’s quite the question you have there. Think I can answer that.” Taking the speaker role, the baton was passed back to him to offer his answers to the man of the screens.
“There are a lot of things one could expect of Wano. Enough to say if I had to list them all, we would probably be here for days.” He jested, making a light joke to raise the atmosphere a bit more from its former apologetics state. Soon Holding his wife’s hand in turn, he began. “To simplify it down to its core wano is a place of traditions and beauty. Honor, loyalty, vows, and integrity. Beauty from the sights of the main capital to places such as the luscious greens of Kibi. Wano is a place rooted deeply in long traditions of old, but it is not to where we allow those traditions of old to dictate our actions of now but to learn from the teachings of our ancestors to add with the teachings of now to evolve and stride for a greater future. One which we hope to welcome all with open arms. That is what wano is.”
Speaking in earnest, to both the showing of his home and his own thoughts, his words rang deep. A combination of both his wishes and those of his partner, coming in harmony for what felt like a rarity but heartfelt in the end as he gave his answer to Code.
“Welcome with open arms? Interesting way to wording it? The view of Wano definitely showed a big love of your nationality and country, which makes me wonder. Would you be willing to accept outsiders and offer them citizenship in Wano?”
Code asked, before holding a hand up to signal he was not finished.
“Either it sounds bizarre or not for you both, I visited countless other places and rarely anyone allows outsiders into their borders, much less gaining them citizenship or being accepted by the community.”
"I believe part of opening Wano's borders is accepting outsiders and offering them a place within this vast land I've come to call my home. However, as of now, we are only working within the ream of visitation. To do so would require expansion and we simply haven't looked into it." Ise answered, keeping her voice measured. "Not to mention, it's not a matter which can made solely by myself nor my husband but our entire council as it radically effects Wano. Optimistic I might be but a fool I am not. There are those who might try to take advantage of this and while I am positive our abilities to defend ourselves, I must put my people first no matter what."
She suddenly sighed, leaning on Yuto. "Plus I've heard terrible stories about some people will disrespect culture and history for a quick laugh. I have no intent of allowing such a thing!"
Nodding in agreement, Yuto followed up. “Yes, we do hope for the chance to accept but also do wish to invite unwanted cases from showing. Outside of our own, we also wish not to as you say jump the gun and risk opening ourselves to vipers that seek to hide within the roses only seeking to strike at the most opportune. We are not fools to the reality of what from those who have eyes which seek to covet. So as my dear wife has spoken. For now, we have opened the doors to the realm visitation, but all that comes later must be carefully arranged before the next stage can be opened to warrant danger away.”
“Hmmm? Well I wish you both good luck archiving all of it.” Code replied, before tapping his finger on the desk in thought, tilting his head.
“Also I might ask, as some people may be interested in it. Seeing you both married, was it an honest marriage or was it a political marriage between you clans? Seeing if from the visual there might be considered a difference in age between both of you. Also no offense, it is just a standard question I use in general, if I interview nobility and royalty.”
Ise hummed, tapping her chin in thought before answering. "It's a little bit of both. As a descendent of the original rulers of Wano Country, it was expected I was meant to inherit the position of Shogunate by the people. Within the past thousand years, there was only one instance where my family hadn't ruled and that is regarded as the dark times of our land. However, the Hiromasa Clan were rising in prestige and their efforts were being noticed by the people who believed they would make amazing successors."
Bobbing his head with a slight nod, Yuto turned his gaze off Ise before sifting it back to Code. “The people had recognized my family and my efforts in many duties we performed. Either through things such as aid or reinforcement against threats. These actions came to solidify us in the eyes of the people to be a successor to the seat.” Raising his left leg, he folded it over his right, then soon entered a contemplative gaze. “Though despite all the gratitude I felt towards the sentiment of the people, I did not wish to depose or replace my wife's family in their position of shogun. After all, her family has always cared for Wano and its people. It would have left a bad taste. So in the end a proposition was made leading to political marriage to keep with that tradition but also one to respect the feelings of the people. Leading towards the rulership we have now.”
Ending his words in eloquence and honest formality, Yuto gave his answer and ended the answer to the question with earnest openness to the situation. “Though one thing I must clear.” Taking his arm and gently wrapping it around Ise, he carefully pulled her in close to rest more warmly against him as he stared at Code with a smile. “Despite starting with the rockiness of a political marriage, the feelings we share have long since tampered with the age of time. To which has brought us nothing but happiness in the time we’ve spent together and brought up.” Turning down to face his wife his smile turned to that of nothing but worm care to the one that rested closest to his heart at this moment.
The Jealous Son[]
While the preparations of the festival were going on, some visitors had already arrived and some stores were either serving food, items to sell or just fun activities for Wano people and outsiders alike. Yet while still other preparations were set, one especially ordered by one person, as in the middle of the flower capital, a specific place was prepared, resembling a fighting ring. While the workers did not really understand what purpose it was, especially as the sumo rings were already builded, they could not deny the request, especially coming from this person.
Observing with his black hair, and a sword on his side, he only crossed his arms over his chest with a scowl, completely showing the opposite of the happy atmosphere of the festival. After all this person was no other than Kozuki Hashihime, the brother of the current shogun and also known as the one, who was the loudest to be not happy about the current shoguns. A person, who definitely did not like the ruling ship was shared by another no name family, like the Hiromasa and to add even more insult, creating offspring using this name. Just the thought of it made him scowl even more.
"Work faster. it must be finished in 2 hours." He barked the order out, making the workers flinch, but made them work even faster in response.
“COULD YOU KINDLY MAINTAIN A GOOD WORK PACE? You are doing a great job here, luck will assist you on this holiday.” Ryosei said loudly at first, not so much to the workers as to Hashihime.
With a prayerful gesture, his hands glowed and he bestowed his blessing on the workers and then turned with a serious look on Kozuki.
“It will not be your family name that gives you the right to rant at poor people. Today is a holiday for everyone, don't forget that Hashi-San.” He said as he pulled out two sake cups offering one to the man.
“I don’t remember allowing you to call me by this nickname, Red Rain.” Hashihime replied, with a bit of heat, before just letting out a sigh, seeing the offer, Not really resisting, he grabbed one of the cup’s with a nod of gratitude, before going to a closed bench to sit down, leaving enough room for the other samurai to take a seat beside him.
“Why are you here anyway? I would though, that our lovely shogun’s gave you an order to guard somewhere.”
He asked, before lifting the cup to his lip, drinking it slowly, enjoying the flavor of the drink, his eyes still not leaving the workers, who continue to build what he wanted.
“Today we both do the same job, observe, today you have to be flexible for the party, we wouldn't want to look closed-minded to tourists, just the border is enough.” Ryosei replied, sipping his sake.
“You're too rigid, I don't even have to make an effort to read you, what's troubling you so much?” The samurai asked with a wry smile knowing some of Hashihime's discontent already, his playful side took over.
Glaring at Ryosei from the side of his eyes, he just took another sip of his drink, letting a bit of silence pass between the two, before deciding to speak up.
“This whole festival. It causes me anxiety, but it also is a big opportunity for me.”
"What kind of opportunity?" Ryosei asked without looking at Hashihime and putting an hand on his sword making the rings on the handel sound, his gaze lost in the horizon.
“What opportunity? I think someone like you, being so close to the shoguns, can add one and one, especially seeing what I am letting build here.”
Hashihime said, pointing at the ring, before tapping his sword.
“This festival is supposed to be a big change in Wano? Changing our closed borders possibly back to Wano? If this festival is supposed to present big changes, I use this festival as well and start my big change attempt.”
Letting the cup drop on the ground he grabbed his sword hilt, while mimicking Ryosei, by looking in the sky of the evening, with the sun slowly setting down.
“I will challenge Ise and her husband to the position of the shogun in a duel of honor.”
A giggle escaped Ryosei, standing up he turned to Hashihime. “Order and balance reign supreme, everyone has his role, and our Shoguns are perfect like this, opposites but with a common goal. I will not stop you in your dream...5 stars plus, hahaha, I would be amazed if you can make a good cut on Yuto's body.” He said as he once again approached the workers who were finishing details.
“Half an hour and you can go home, celebrate with your families today.”
Veins pulsing on his forehead with his teeth gritted, he forgot that this samurai in front of him was nothing more than a blind follower. Even though he could not completely blame him, seeing that the “invader” was the one who taught and trained him.
“If you do not dream, you have no drive. You become nothing more than a blind constant in the world without drive and motivation to push yourself into a better version of yourself or change something you think is wrong.”
Getting up from the seat he walked towards Ryosei, before standing beside him.
“I am hated in Wano, because people at least the higher ups are aware that I dislike the current rulers. But yet it will not stop me from doing what I believe is right. The Kozuki family has ruled Wano for over a hundred years. The only times there was trouble in Wano was if another family started to invade in our ranks like the last time with the Kurozumi Family, which led this monster in our lands and making our people suffer. There is a saying I read in a book, which said: “History repeats itself” or the other line “learn from history”.”
Pulling his sword of his sheath, he looked at the reflection of himself in the silver of his blade.
“And now what we have is a Kozuki needs to marry herself with an outsider family to even rule Wano. The Hiromasa Family is one of these invaders. An invader, which I even not much felt threatened or insulted at first, until I saw the growth of the offspring.”
"So let me ask you a simple question, are you different than an outsider or a monster if you wanna take the place of our shoguns? One of them is your sister, a Kozuki, her word is absolute. To me it's not a "stranger" matter, you want that position for yourself but the fate spoke, at the end is as i said, everyone has his role. Dreams are strong, but is the grip on your sword as strong as your dream?" Ryosei asked with a glacial stare, he was judging Hashihime will.
Being silent for a bit it looked like the Kozuki did not react to the words of Ryosei, but his grip on his blade only tightened more after he finished his sentence.
“Fate? It is easy to put everything on fate, as it gives us an excuse to not strive for more and for what you believe is right. After all this fate believing is the perfect way for lazy people to just let themself put into a role instead of deciding what their role should be. I may sound like a hypocrite, as I say the Kozuki should rule over Wano, but that is my belief and the drive I am working for, like the other Kozuki’s done in the past again and again.”
Explaining his reasoning he gave a side glance to Ryosei.
“A dream is only a dream, but if I drive for the dream to be my goal, then I think you should know the answer if my grip is as strong as my dream.”
Letting out a sigh, he put his blade back into his sheath.
“And this dream became more and more of a goal, after I saw the offspring of both of them grow. I can’t believe I am the only one seeing or sensing it. Chikara and Midori, they both feel abnormal.”
At that point for a second Ryosei's presence became almost ominous, like a demon watching you. “Ahahahahah, just because they consider me an uncle more than you, ahhh, what a sight those two are.” He said jokingly until his expression became menacing.
“Leave my precious nieces out of your dream, or you might end up with me judging your fate, I don't recommend it.”
“Boys. Boys. How about we both take things easy.”
Clapping out of the corner of the two peripheral vision, a voice exclaimed. Soft but gentle were the words that escaped, a fragrance of flowers invited into the air, with aromas strong enough to soothe the most violent of beasts from their sturred anger. Walking to the middle of the two’s conversation came the lady of flowers Mitsumori Rika holding a basket of fruits in one arm.
“Like you both said. Today is a day of festivity and opportunity. A day of joy and good fortunes. So please could we not curse such a day by throwing threats every which way.”
Interrupting both in the way of escalation, Rika simply gave them a pleasant smile to both. “Though what might you mean by abnormal, Hashihime sama?”
“Lady Rika.” Hashihime said with a respectful nod of his head, he had a small smile on his face, “at least one person, who is willing to hear me out instead of threatening me as an enemy or someone crazy.”
Thanking the ladies of flowers and one of the people, who did not outrightly look down on or as an enemy the black sheep of the Kozuki family, he gave his attention to her.
“I mean, even though you people don't acknowledge it, I still have some strings and quirks from all Kozuki members. Always there is a characteristic, anything that unites us or puts us in a category we could acknowledge as family. Midori…I really want to try and see it but no matter how hard I try I see not a single ounce of Kozuki in here. I really want to, but I just can’t, because like the gentleman beside us, making me distance from them and getting not liked by her.”
Explaining his forehead started to slightly sweat, looking a bit uneasy, at what he wanted to say next.
“As for Chikara….she is a totally different case.”
"BLIIIIIIIIND, Midori is a wonderful girl, if you didn't stick with your "kozuki or nothing" you would discover a lovely person, lovely as Rikaa chan welcome, now yes, now this day is really beautiful. How are you? Your perfume is so sweet." Ryosei said almost totally red in his face, despite his status he could not mantain a serious face, she was too powerful for him.
Listening to Hashihime's words, she gave the man her focus on his thoughts until he was done. Only after the final words left their lips did Rika turn to Ryosei giving him a smile and curtsey of a bow.
“A beautiful day indeed Ryosei, and thanks for noticing. It’s a new blend of flowers I mixed to create a claiming scent for those who inhale.”
Complimenting, Rika explained her special blend of fragrances in quick detail. Nothing too special, but one that would quite serve its use in a situation in which so many guests both kind and not found their way into their home.
Turning back to face Hashihime, she brought a hand to her chin.
“An interesting way of putting things in regards to your niece. Hmmm. Though curious you say Chikara is a totally different case. How much so?”
“I will not even bother with him?” Hashihime muttered, rolling his eyes at his antics, as he remembered reading a book from the outside, where this behavior was put into a word, called “Simp”. Even though he did not really know why, he liked this word, especially summarizing Ryosei’s behavior towards Rika. But he turned his attention fully on Rika, as she either genuinely was listening to his concern or made a good way of hiding the disbelief or hatred towards him just by saying these words.
“How should I explain it? I apologize for using this metaphor, so please don’t call me out for wrongly using this as a theme. Think about it, you have flowers and one especially looks beautiful for bees and insects, only to be revealed to be a carnivorous plant, disguised as a flower to lure the prey. Chikara feels like that…I am genuinely terrified of her and I can’t even know what exactly. I saw her growth from a toddler to being the young woman she is today and it became more and more clear she was not a real flower.”
Sighing a bit already prepared to hear the words of anger or even an attack from Ryosei in response, but nonetheless continued.
“At best I can summarize it: she has intentions and plans. intentions and plans, which never someone had in Wano before, which definitely not feel good. Like it’s somehow rotten and that makes me worry. Is it here intentions or are these intentions from Yuto? Only difference is that he hides it better than her.”
"Oh Rika chan, here for you, today i have a new special reserve just forvthis particular fedtival, fresh cherry blossom with roses and a touch of pepper, this sake is special, try it cheers." Ryosei offered a cup filled with this new sake that the samurai took from a flasque hidden in his kimono.
"What now Hashi, you went from fighting the shoguns to have fear of Chichi? Whoops i spoiled your event to Rika eheheh" Ryosei said laughing.
“Oh?! Another one of your special blends of Sake you say? It is my pleasure to sample such exquisite blends from our dear brewer.” responding kindly with an affirmative gaze, Rika turned to face Ryosei with a face that seemed to grow even more positively to the offer of something that blended flowers so beautifully into the mix. Reaching out and gently taking it into their own hands, she was ever so close to placing it over her lips but soon stopped to face Hashihime.
“You want to what!” Questioning her peer, Rika faced the man. Her face was riddled with question, shock, confusion, and concern at the revelation that had been dropped all too suddenly. “Are you sure this is a wise idea? Especially on a day such as this. It raises a lot of risks.”
“Well I would call it general worry about the future of Wano seeing she is the next one to be ruling Wano, but call it whatever you like as I am not already used to being taunted through my whole life.”
Hashihime said with an eye roll, his attention still fully on Rika, appreciating the honesty or even act of Rika to show some form of concern or worry or at least he believed it to be that.
“What can I say, Lady Rika? The festival is a change of Wano, so why not try to apply the changes on myself? If I do not believe in myself to be able to achieve my goal to get the shogun position, no one else will believe in me either. So either I succeed and be able to prove everyone wrong about me or I die, at least knowing I tried and not just a blind follower and well would make people happy, that the black sheep or traitor or whatever the people call me, that he is finally gone, right?”
Watching the construct working, finally taking the shape of the ring he wanted to have, he let out a sigh with a short smile.
“Dreams are there to motivate and hunt after them. I would rather die than let people tell me I can’t do it. And my dream is to get this position, so to make sure Wano does not suffer again.”
“Go ahead, we'll talk again soon then. Rika Chan, my dear, would you like to go to the streets of the capital and have some fun? It's a joyous time and I'd like to enjoy it but I also want to see how people from the sea behave.” Ryosei asked slightly red in the face.
Giving the man one more glance, Rika went into a more focused glance at them but soon nodded. “It seems nothing we’d say would perturb you from the course you plan on following. If that is the case then all I can do is wish you some luck despite my feeling on it.” Bowing her head to the royal member, she ended her talk with him with one of good faint. Then soon after turned to Ryosei with a smile. “Go with you? Well I do have, and it be my honour have to have you accompany. So yes I’d love to go with you.” Responding with a smile that seemed to brighten up the atmosphere she accepted the offer with nothing but good faith.
As on rare occasions Ryosei's eyes were gentle, a smile painted on his face. “After so many years you still continue to be formal with me, come on now, you are a family head and I am a mere samurai, the honor can only be mine Rika Chan. Let's go.” Ryosei said as he approached her signaling her to grasp his slightly raised arm.
Extending a hand Rika, took hold of the demon's hand with a soft touch. Before leaving she raised the other, giving Hashihime a final wave before heading off for an eventful day.
Watching the retreating trio he was alone….like he always was. Gritting his teeth his mood changed from his cold and determined mood, aiming to finally achieve his dream, to an angry cold rage, which boiled more and more, as it felt like one wrong step and he was about to explode.
“All of them are blind. Am I the only one seeing the abnormally in the Hiromasa’s? Am I the only one thinking that Yuto hides something? Am I the only one who notices abnormalities in the children? The near no similarities from Midori to their parents or the cold and hidden evil inside Chikara? Like seriously?!”
As his rage increased he pulled his sword of the sheath, not noticing tiny pollen like things were in the air around him, as he stroked in fast matter left and right, like he was fighting an image.
“Things will repeat themself! Soon Wano may again be a playground for the monsters outside of Wano! This War already showed us, the outside has eyes on us! And all led by a family, who came out of nowhere like Kurozumi. Soon Hiromasa will invite another monster and we will all suffer again! How can my brothers and especially my sister not see it!”
As he rented with one final strike he hit the ground, causing it to split into two. However soon, with his harsh breathing of calming down, there was a clapping noise to be hearable. His instincts spiking up he turned around only to come face to face with two people watching him. While the evening turned to night, making it darker and darker, he still was able to see the figures enough to see how they looked.
One was a male figure with middle long lime-like hair, which was the only feature that was visible on his as not only he wore a dark green kimono to cover his whole body, but also wore a red mask, looking similar to one of a plague doctor, with the red eyes still visible through the black sockets.
The other figure was a female figure with white long hair with purple strains on it. While not being that noticeable like the other figure, her red eyes and cold expression made Hashihime feel a shiver through his spine for a short moment, an expression no one should be able to manage. Even the butterfly looking hair pin on her hair was not enough to get his expression away from her.
“Look at you. All pathetic and in self doubt in the end. Your words are as empty as a grave after getting pillaged by organ dealers.”
The woman taunted the Kozuki with a tone lacking any kind of emotion, making it unreadable in what way she was saying these words. The other figure needed to hold back a laugh only to smack the women hard on the back of the head, which not even caused her to wince or show any kind of reaction to it, even though the sheer wind was feelable from the strike, making Hashihime thought, if this woman was even made out of flesh.
“Oh come on, Orbi! Don’t blame him for his shortcomings! After all he does not have the gift, like the shoguns!”
Laughing a bit, the woman only turned at him glaring at him with such ferocity, like she was prepared to dig his grave.
“Don’t call me again like that.”
Her cold reply caused Hashihime to come out of his trance and draw his blade pointing it at the duo. But even though he was aware these two were dangerous for some reason he did not feel some kind of animosity from them.
“Who are you both?”
Hashihime asked, trying to sound aggressive and imitating, yet he felt towards these two for some reason, he was not able to show any form of animosity towards them. And for some reason he thought that these two knew he was not able to show any aggressivity towards them. Seeing from the relaxed posture of the two visitors, it was obvious they were aware of this fact.
“So? We heard you are about to kill yourself against the shoguns. You know as much training as you put into yourself, the shoguns will have the same. You will never reach them no matter how hard you try. A chicken can’t fly to capture eagles in the sky.”
The woman said with a matter of fact tone, making Hashihime snap and wondering more and more why he did not want to behead these outsiders with his blade. Holding a hand up, the masked figure made a surrender gesture.
“What our lovely Orbi wanted to say is that they got something you can't obtain via training. An unfair advantage. I thi-!”
He wanted to continue only for the woman to elbow him hard in the guts, before pulling out a small chest from her clothes.
“And we heard your worry about the shoguns. We are from the outside and they plan something big. Something that may endanger Wano and the outside world. While we have no proof as they hide their tracks, we can only hope you can save Wano and us. And for that me and insect have a gift for you.”
The woman said, as for a strange reason even though it sounded ridiculous for some strange reason he believed every single word they said.
“And what might that be? What is it that they have and I do not have, which you hope to give to me?”
He asked, as he could swear the man was smirking under the mask, while the woman opened the chest only to reveal a red object in it, which made his eyes widen.
“Is that?!”
What is your Job?[]
With the festival getting more and more in the roll, the laughter and parties got stronger and stronger. And with parties followed by alcohol, in that case sake, one of Wano’s national alcoholic drinks. And with sake followed a lot of drunk people, which may lead to problems and fights.
And in that case there was a fight, as a dozen of drunk wano natives lied on the ground with big bulbs on their head, with some even smoking, on a stand sat a small blonde girl, drinking from the sake bottle like it was a bottle of water. Wearing a traditional white kinemon, at closer look underneath it was actually a black business suit, she looked completely angry and pissed off, like someone bothered her way too long about something, while scaring few people away from her, especially the people who saw, how this little girl took out this men like it was nothing.
”Excuse me!!!” The anxious shouts of a girl filled the air. The area was crowded with people, keeping their distance from the scene. It was a wonder this voice could break through the dozens of conversations all going on. But it was clear from the people moving that she was coming this way.
”It’s her!” Civilians shouted, “Everyone let her pass,” Murmers filled the air, replacing the loud sound of inaudible voices. “What is she doing here?” “Maybe she heard of the commotion.” So many voices questioning what was happening as the sea of people parted to reveal a young woman clad in green.
”Thank you! Thanks so much!” She shouted at the top of her lungs. Bowing over and over in every direction. Before finally running out towards the pile of beaten men. When a dreaded look crossed her face. “Did you do this? No no, doesn’t matter! They need a hospital!”
Without hesitating, she lifted up one of the men onto her shoulder. Preparing to leave. She knew this city like the back of her hand. And didn’t need to waste a second asking for directions. But even then, the streets were crowded and there was a dozen of the injured. It would take anyone all night to carry them alone.
Looking at the green haired her eyes rose in surprise. Normally she would ignore this person, but seeing the reaction of the crowd, it was obvious she was some kind of big name or at least she hoped to be. After all, if she is forced to not help out her boss by protecting him, forced to enjoy her time, why not get closer to a famous person in Wano?
“Oi, grenette! Don’t worry about them! They are just asleep and will wake up by themself! You don’t need to drag these alcoholics and waste your time!” Holding up one bottle of sake she directed a practiced and welcoming smile towards the samurai, offering it to her, while tapping a seat beside her to sit down and enjoy, “How about you join me to enjoy a drink? My treat!”
”Oh? Only asleep? Ah that’s a relief.” Midori sighed, slowly letting the man down. “I had heard of a commotion and was worried people were hurt.” Walking over with a gentle pace, a quiet tap falling her every step. But while she accepted the offer for a seat with an appreciating bow. She nodded to the mention of drinks, “No thanks, papa says I get rather… Eh I forgot the word.”
“Papa? How old are you, 11?” Briar said, rolling her eyes in mild annoyance, yet quickly shifted her mood, as she needed to know more about this person, “Being a lightweight? Well, how about a glass of milk, instead?”
Briar asked, as she leaned towards the corner, only to pull out a bottle of milk, normally used for special alcoholic drinks, she poured one into a glass, before offering it towards the samurai, while without a care dropped a small bag of money on the desk, because the bartender was for some unknown reason missing.
Midori was a little struck off guard by the woman’s comment. But let it go, not wanting it to cause some bigger scene. Above all else she didn’t like making enemies. “Sure, I’ll have some milk.” She said, keeping the same melodic tone. Nodding her head slightly as a thanks before taking the glass. “Why are you here all alone? Wouldn’t you like to enjoy the festivities?” She asked as soon as the question entered her mind.
Smiling a bit she took her drink and took a big gulp of it letting the burning sake go through her throat. But as soon as the question came, her eyes narrowed letting out an annoyed sigh.
“How can I? I am a security guard, who was forced to leave the person you are supposed to protect and forced to enjoy this festival and socialize. And on top of that, they refused to sell me sake, because they think I am underage!”
Saying rather aggressively she slammed her fist on the table causing slight cracks to appear on it.
Midori jumped at the sudden cracking of wood. Spilling some of her drink in the process. “You’re… Not?” She asked, referring to the woman’s age. She had no interest in stopping Briars drinking, even while she believe her underaged. But she was confused to hear that she was in fact an adult.
Freezing in place, her head snapped towards Midori, with a painful crack and eyes looking so dead it looked like she became a corpse, only to stand inches away from Midori.
“Call or even think again I am a child, and I grab this bottle and ram it so deep up to oyur ass it sticks out of your mouth again, is that clear?”
It may be a request, but sounded more like an order, an order from a demon, at how Briar sounded at this point.
It was at this point that the crowd outside began to look horrified. Some letting off gasps in fear, others running off entirely. Even Midori herself seemed quite afraid. “Uh I-I think you might have had too many drinks.” Placing a hand over the bottle and gradually moving it down. She had a forced smile resting across her face. Not letting herself seem too nervous.
Continuing to glare down at Midori, Briar’s hand moved…only to grab another bottle, before leaning back at her chair, her expression turned back to a carefree one.
“I think I had to little, as I am not drunk enough to deal with this shit. Sorry, but I get angry very fast, if someone calls me child and it happened way too much today.” Holding the bottle she looked at the near clear liquid inside of it, before turning her attention back to her guest.
“Anyway. Who are you? The people give you looks like you are some kind of celebrity or goddess. A famous model, warrior or part of the Daimyo's or whatever they are called here?”
Briar asked as she started to drink from the bottle of sake.
Midori let out a huff of air at Briars change of mood. Relieved she didn’t have to fight someone, but disappointed in the woman’s next move. But she couldn’t help more than she had without starting problems. So she let it go.
”Well, I am Midori, uh Hiromasa Midori, it’s a pleasure to meet you miss.” She explained, not intentionally leaving out her royal status, just merely not seeing that relevant enough to include. Not until she realized the latter part of Briars request, “Ah well, the Shoguns are my parents I suppose.” She continued, scratching her head from embarrassment. Revealing that felt like she was asking for attention or praise. Even if it was just a response to a question.
Nodding her head, while drinking she now knew she was right. So this person was somehow important, Hiromasa Midori, daughter of the shogun.
“.....”
Freezing mid drink her brain did a reboot as the information went through her brain again. Hiromasa? And again. Shogun? And again. Daughter. And again. Hiromasa Midori, daughter of shoguns?
PPPPPFTTTTT!
Spitting out her drink fully to the ground followed by violent coughing, as she rammed her fist on her chest ot get the burning liquid out of her throat, she looked at Midori with wide eyes, like she was seeing a ghost.
“You are the shoguns daughter?! Hiromasa Yuto’s and Kozuki Ise’s child?!”
”Are you okay?!” Midori jolted ahead in concern. Backing down though as Briar began to speak. “Uh, well yes I suppose I am. Sorry is there an issue?”
Her coughs slowly calming down, she gave Midori a forced smile, as all her gears in her brain worked overtime. She was the daughter and was about to treat the daughter of the shoguns. The daughter who could run to her parents and get her head spiked on the pyke or worse. Ruining the deal Code tried to establish and making him upset about her. No. No! NO! Everything but that!
“It is alright! I was just surprised, that's all! You know not expecting royalty just to pop out in a random stand, that's all! You know maybe it is normal in Wano, but outside most royals do not even get close to the common folk!”
Noticing her voice became faster, she took a deep breath, trying to calm down, only for her to have an idea, causing her inside to smirk evilly, while already hearing the future praise of Code.
“But I must say, seeing you are the daughter of the Shogun’s, you must be a total monster with the blade right?”
Midori let out a relieved sigh as Briar continued. “Yes, I just… I like to explore is all.” Midori said with a chuckle, she didn’t like staying cooped up in the castle. Only seeing the country through windows overlooking its vastness. She preferred getting out and experiencing the world herself. Even if it meant trouble for the shoguns. But right now, during the festival was one time where she couldn’t miss the chance to walk the streets.
”Well, I am rather skilled, I’m sure Chikara-Chan is better though.” Midori laughed, not wanting to praise herself in any capacity. “Uh, why do you ask?”
“Eh? Ehm just curious you know. Just you know meeting the shogun child, a child of two battle hardened warriors, it was just an assumption. Also, who is Chikara?”
Briar asked, trying to keep the conversation moving.
”Eh?” Midori sounded confused, but thinking about it. She understood, if this woman didn’t know who she was. It was reasonable to think she didn’t know Chikara either. ”Oh sorry, she’s my sister Hiromasa Chikara.”
“Ah! Yes, of course! You would call your sister with -Chan. My bad. Huhuhuhu.”
Trying to shrug off the awkward situation under a slight embarrassed laugh, she looked to the side as she struggled to keep the conversation going. How is Code-san doing it so easily? It felt like she was speaking with a robot or was she the robot? Mentally punching herself she tried to find a topic to keep the conversation going.
“Do you like traveling? You ever went outside of Wano then, seeing it is…well was closed borders?”
”Mhm, I like traveling, I’ve walked Wanos outskirts more times than I can count.” She explained in a polite and concise manner. “But I can’t say I’ve left Wano before.”
“Hmmm?”
Thinking a bit confused and a bit curious, she turned her head to the other side so she was not facing Midori. Only at that moment her face changed, looking like an evil mastermind of a third class superhero movie with how her eyes gleamed and her mouth formed a grin making her teeth shine. Now she got the perfect bait for the hook. Turning back her face showed a friendly smile, as welcoming as she was able to do it, learning it from Code.
“Well. You know my job causes me to travel into a lot of different places. I think I visited over 100 different islands.”
”100?!” Midori chimed with eyes sparkling like stars. She could only imagine how many places Briar had seen. And while she’d been more or less answering questions. She couldn’t help but to ease some of her curiosity over this avid explorer. “What’s your favorite one?” She quickly asked, lacking the slow and polite tone she kept.
Hook. Line. And sinker. Trying her hardest to not smirk or laugh in triumph, she focused her full attention on Midori, even though she was slightly surprised at the sudden excitement. But well, that made her job easier.
“Oh that's difficult. About islands made out of gigantic trees, able to produce bubbles, which people used to drive around, islands, which are above the clouds or a gigantic kingdom, which rivals Wano’s size, with kilometers of desert. But I think my favorite island is the island of the past.”
Briar answered, as she learnt from Code to leave all details, making people ask more questions.
“Nice! From the past? So dinosaurs, I love dinosaurs!” Midori replied simply, she wished she could ask more. Hear about the world outside Wano and all its glory. But she had to restrain herself, one from spoiling herself. And two because she was already rude in her sudden question. Not wanting to make a repeat of that.
“Is there anything else you’d like to ask?” By now she’d caught on to the woman’s pattern. Figuring she’d go along, seeing no harm in answering questions.
“Oh no. Don’t be shy, Midori-san.” Briar pressed about the topic, as she guessed Midori somehow got a bit shy from pressing Briar about the outside world.
“After all it would be fair for your people visiting us, we would share a bit of the outside world. Like did you know, there is a gigantic waterfall, which actually streamed upwards to pass a gigantic wall, which makes Wanos borders very small in comparison?”
”A wall? Reverse waterfall? What?” Midori sounded confused. A wall didn’t sound too unfeasible but an upward flowing waterfall? That just sounded impossible to her. While Midori was an abnormally naive person. But even she didn’t believe that it was real. “No way, sorry miss I do not believe you. Water can’t flow upwards.”
“Really? You know people would think it is unbelievable, that a whole country exists multiple meters above sea level, surrounded by giant waterfalls.”
Briar said, while putting out of her pocket a piece of paper. Unfolding it to the full size, strangely on the paper was an actual screen on it, like it was printed on the paper. Yet as Briar tapped the screen it came to life, before showing a recording of a waterstream….a waterfall….streaming upwards at extreme speed. A gift from Code, who used his devil fruit powers to turn this simple picture of Reverse Mountain into a recording, all for Midori to see.
“You think it is impossible now?”
Midori was left astonished, not only by the proof of this upward flowing water. But by the paper showing a moving picture. “Wow…” Thinking of the words to describe this. She was left only to wonder about the other mystical places the world had to offer. “I suppose not, no it looks very real.”
“Hmm.” Nodding her head a bit smugly, she offered the paper to Midori, before turning her head to the side as she had an evil grin on her face, rubbing her hands like she was a third class villain of a mediocre movie.
“That is perfect.”
With her thoughts finished, she turned back and her friendly smile returned, as she put a friendly shoulder on Midori’s shoulder.
“You like traveling, no? So you would like to leave Wano and get the borders open or atleast have an opportunity to move fast and visit a lot of places right?”
”Yes! I would love an opportunity to explore the rest of the world!” Midori exclaimed, she loved this festival mostly for the foreigners it brought. People who were completely different from her. She loved learning about their lives outside of Wano.
But if she left the island, going out to see the world herself. She’d no longer need to rely on an event to observe it. Sure she always planned to leave eventually. Once she’d uncovered every bit of Wanos structure. But that time had nearly come, and she believed this an opportunity to not leave by herself. “Are you suggesting I can go with when you leave?”
This time Briar jolted in surprise as she heard that response. She did not expect it….but it worked perfectly …way too perfectly, making her wonder if Midori is that naive. She honestly started to feel bad to use that for her advantage, but the goal was more important and if Midori was happy in the end, it really was not that bad. Like Code told her. It is not an evil act or hidden manipulation if everyone was happy in the end.
“Well…sure. After all, I think we can become best friends! But you know I am working for a news organization and we used the opportunity to visit Wano. You know our base is flying so we can travel to nearly everywhere visiting all kinds of places. But we also try to build up posts to the visited places so we can share news for these places from all over the world.”
Briar explained, before she got a troubled expression on her face.
“My boss has an ability which makes traveling long distances super easy and it would help if we got the post so we can share it easier with Wano. Right now he tries to convince your parents, if we are allowed to do it, either if the borders open or stay closed after the festival. I hope it will work out.”
“Well, my parents know what my opinion on Wanos borders are.” Midori said with a sigh, holding herself from becoming too excited. After all she couldn’t just leave, not that she wanted to leave immediately anyway.
Picking up her weapon, Midori placed it on her belt. ”I should go tell them about this, do you know where I could meet you.” She said before motioning that she was about to stand. Looking at the bars entrance, the crowd from earlier had practically all vanished. Leaving a straight view out into the street.
“Oh just meet me here right after the festival, bestie.”
Briar said excitedly, as it looked like she was looking forward to meet Midori again, even though her excitement originated from a different source, especially after what Midori said.
”I will!” Midori replied, waving at Briar before walking to the door. And the moment she stepped outside she started a sprint for the castle.
Watching the retreating figure of Midori, Briar had a smirk of triumph on her face, before she grabbed the bottle of sake. The forced vacation was as painful as it felt, especially getting harassed and called a child turned into something good. Not only she met the daughter of the shoguns, got on her good side, but also managed to get her word of positivity directed to her parents, which would help her boss even further to get the location of Screen News in Wano, one of the first ever.
She couldn't wait to see her boss happy and excited as they got their go and even praised her further hearing she convinced and manipulated the daughter to gain even more approval by it.
“Looks like this festival will be quite good, eh?”
She said to herself, before drinking from the bottle of sake, feeling it was what she deserved after this major victory.
Spare of Fate[]
With the night slowly approaching, the sun finally vanishing behind the horizon, replaced by the moon, with the stars barely visible, thanks to the countless paper lanterns lightening up slowly like an army of fireflies ascending to the sky. People were gathered on a big square, waiting in front of the big building with the appearance and the words of the rulers.
Residents of Wano are curious, excited or showed anxiety at what their rulers wanted to say, while the outsiders were only curious to see who the rulers of this sealed off country were. Even though most residents and some outsiders gave weird and curious glances towards the direction of the strangest outsider, with a head of a TV, while a small crew of people with cameras were gathered. Camera pointed at him, he held a microphone in his hand, as he smiled towards the camera.
“Am I in the picture? Is the main focus is the building, where the shoguns will have the speech? Is the zoom in working?”
Code asked the cameraman, who was the blonde bodyguard and partner Briar, to test a few times, before giving a thumbs up.
“Okay we are going live on 3, 2, 1! Greetings my lovely viewers! This evening we are in Wano Kuni and about to have a life feat and speech from the shoguns in the festival to find out what the next plans will be and how the open borders will affect Wano from now on. As you can see.” The camera zoomed through the crowd, “We see from the residents a mixture of curiosity and excitement. And like myself I can’t wait till the speech will begin.” Code said to the camera, as he waited for the show to start.
“A scenario that leaves one speechless every time, with you by my side it is even better, Rika-Chan. But I still have to disturb my thoughts since amidst the flood of people I feel strange presences, it will be a feeling of alertness, I hope for nothing serious, I have to respect Shogun Ise's choice. Will you stay by my side in case of danger?” Ryosei asked with a gentle smile to Rika as he scanned the surrounding area with his Kenbunshoku.
Turning to face her partner, Rika reciprocated their smile with that of hers. “If you have to ask then the answer is quite simple. I will. Hopefully, nothing wrong will arise on such a day as this, but we all know destiny has its own will in which it follows.” Sounding gloomy, Rika's voice shuddered at the idea of danger but knew nothing could ever remain good. “But if anything happens I am at least comforted in knowing that you are here. And I too will be by your side to aid you if the time comes.” Extending a hand outwards, she reached and clasped her hand around his in a handhold.
As time passed so did the people’s excitement. This was a momentous day. Hundred, no, thousands of citizens of Wano gathered probably even more had all come together for this one moment. However, it was not only those of Wano. This was something unexpected and one which none had ever gotten to see. On a day of festivity and fun, the border had come open to those of the world to see. New faces and new people of different cultures all but arrived upon this land. Walking amongst the people in all their newness to bring before them.
This was something never seen before unless one was to look back upon the times of lords of far-flung pasts during the age of the great dragon lords' evil rule. Some people would be scared. Driven to anxiety over the tales of those far-flung pasts in their history books but today none showed fear. Why should they? After all, now things were different.
Now they had protectors and people to look up to. Either those be their shogun pair of now rulers over them through the different times of wake and dreaming. Or even the demon of want, the Red Rain. And many other figures that worked almost akin to guardian spirits over all their lives. The want of now was nothing less than a titan of unmovability. A creature to which nothing could either shake or move and one which brought them safety and security.
And within that crowd, one of those pillars that fit within the titan drank gallantly. Hair wild and untamed, horn long and protruding with a hand holding onto a cup drinking with no consideration was a devil of the mounts, the glittering shield of the shogun and what Tsuchii would call a walking embodiment of riches, Hayami dwarfing all who stood side her.
“Ahem!” Coughing out beside her was a voice more calmed and tactful. A woman dressed in ceremony. One which radiated the essence of holiness and care but gave the aura of strength and capability. The shrine maiden, Himari. “Sensai could you please at least be more presentable today? We're in public.” She spoke with a sigh. One of the many students under the oni trying to reprimand their masters.
Wiping away the remnants of her drink with her sleeves the Rakshasa laughed. “Hahaha, relax little Hima.” Raising their hand she smacked their back repeatedly. “Today is supposed to be fun! A day that lets me go loose and drink to my heart's content. But most of all a day you’d never get the chance to see again.” Moving from their back to their head, the mountain demon ruffled their head and smiled, then soon turned over to the stage to stare up like all the rest.
Soon drum could be heard to herald the beginning. With each thump of the drums, footsteps came up from the stage. To the eyes of all that came and the cameras centered, the shoguns arrived before them all. Subjects and guessed cheered delighted to see the leader and for some the first to see the ones in charge of Wano was a sight to behold.
Yuto smile at them al. Bringing up a hand he waved in pleasure to the crowd showing their affection towards them. But with time he soon raised a hand to ask for silence. Taking a step forward he took center stage.
“Good day everyone.”
His voice radiated outwards holding in it authority and compassion that captivated the minds of all who heard it.
“People of Wano, visitors, and everyone in between. Today is a day most of you would never have expected.”
Raising a hand, he waved it across the crowd.
“To your left and to your right are those of different walks of life and a land long since shrouded in the blinds of closure.” Dropping his hand he brought them to his back. “Things are not the same as they would this time of the year. Most of you are happy with what this day has brought and others I know might be disapproving of it all together.”
Shifting his gaze over, he met the ire of a few disapproving faces, forcing those faces to look away either due to respect or fear of the shogun.
“But to that end, I also understand all of you. Today has brought change to our land. It is never easy to embrace change so immediately. In fact, none should. Change takes time and should be taken in steps. It can bring many good but also many bad but in the end change will always be needed. I can promise you this. More changes will come with time. Today is but a taste of what is to come. A Wano of tomorrow and a Wano willing to accept the world. So to you all, I welcome you into this future, and may you welcome us too. So with that all said I like to initiate this festival officially begins now!”
To that end, the crowd cheered as drums were banged. People from all around celebrate the start of the long-awaited and looked-after celebration.
“As you can see, my viewers! Today we are on a revolutionary day for the country of Wano! Looks like we might have some vacation hotspot for some….”
Code wanted to continue only to notice Bria behind the camera pointing at something as she slowly started to shift the camera. Code turned his head to the side to look at the direction, only for his screen project and exclamation mark, before it quickly shifted back to the camera.
“Oh there might be a change of events.”
The host said, as indeed something was happening as out of the mass of the people, someone stepped out of it closer to Yuto, only stopping as the guards tried to stop him, although hesitated as to who it was.
“You said this will be an era of change, Hiromasa Yuto?” Kozukio Hashihime replied with a casual smile on his face, one hand resting on the hilt of his blade, “To be honest what I see is nothing more but a repeat of history, instead of a change.”
Seeing the scene, Ryosei also put a hand on the hilt of his cursed blade sending around him a chilling sensation felt from the normal people, they soon took some distance from him and Rika.
But that didn't happen to put himself between Yuto and Hashihime, it was just to avoid any unpleasant event from the outsiders. "Now show me your will, Hashi-San." He thought while keeping Rika close to him.
There it was. The unpleasant feeling of the presence of hell coming out of the samurai. Presence everyone would feel complete uneasiness or fear from the cursed blade radiating like radiation, threatening to crush the will of anyone. Yet Hashihime, while gritting his teeth, soon vanished fast as his smug look appeared back on his face, looking at Ryosei.
“Any reason for stepping in and insulting your shogun by your action, Red Rain?”
Hashihime started, as he crossed his arms looking at the samurai, then at the shogun.
“After all I only said something. If I would be scum and would attack him, I would have done it already or done it behind him. But I am a Kozuki and have the pride of a Kozuki no matter how scummy you might think I am.”
Finishing his sentence, he pointed a thumb in the direction of the host and the camera.
“And while I might not care what the world cares about our shogun, I do care how the world views our top dog of our nation. So how about to step away, Red Rain, so me and the shogun can have a chat or you want to show the world that our shogun, the supposed greatest warrior of our nation, can't handle even some mean words let himself protected from his minions instead of facing it head on?”
"Ahahahahah ohhhh my...my hand slipped on my sword, didn't it? Sorry for the trouble Hashi-San, you can continue with no worries, a samurai keeps his word, i won’t interfere in your performance today." Ryosei said with a warming smile, making the cursed feeling disappear.
Standing up upon his high ground, Yuto's stare entered that of the crowd. Confusion, interest, murmurs, and fear, slowly became the present action and emotions made present amongst the sea of onlookers. Yuto’s eyes then soon closed before a hand was raised.
Without further words needed to be spoken, the guards seemed to stand down. By just a mere motion of their shogun's body, it was more than enough to tell what they demanded. So to that, all Samurai stood down from their state of action. Their guard never yet down, but still they follow the commands sent.
Folding his arms behind his back, Yuto seemingly smiled before walking forward to the edge of the stage. “Brother. What seems to have gotten you so worked up?” Tinged with earnest curiosity and concern, Yuto stared with closed eyes down upon his brother-in-law. His action showed no sign of malice or ill will just simple questions to which he sought an answer calmly.
Hashihime did not even attempt to hide his expression of disgust, which slowly formed on his face as soon as Yuto finished the words. Turning into a cold glare, Hashime snarled to the side, collecting himself again, before he continued.
“First of all. Don't call me brother, Hiromasa. I never gave you permission nor even wanted you to call me brother. Don't care if you are together or not with my sister.”
Hashihime exclaimed with anger, before he calmed down to fix himself.
“I could get to every detail. From any abnormality in you and your family side, but that would be too much to summarize it all and I prefer people listening to me, before insulting and throwing rotten fruits at me. So let's summarize it all to the most important part.”
Widening his arms he had a confident smile on his face, his gaze directed not only towards the shogun, but also the crowd, as his next words were completely cryptic.
“Like showing Wano again the horrible fate of endless suffering and pain.
Still upholding a radiantly calm demeanor, Yuto listened. Hands still held behind their backs, eyes still closed behind his scarlet shades and his smile. A smile that held nothing but pleasantries for all to see.
“Explain? What could have given you such an idea or impression, I’d do such a thing as that, Hashihime?”
Questioning with the same calm air he kept, Yuto extended an arm out, opening the stage up to his brother-in-law to speak his words. He neither rebuked nor spoke down his accusation, and especially did he not seek to police his words. Simply just opening the stage to them, he gently gave room for freedom to speak his words without impediment, giving him an act of benevolence befitting a leader who sought to understand his subjects' problems.
“Yeah! Explain yourself, you creep!/Look who's talking, the black sheep of Wano!/Mom! Look! It's the crazy guy saying something about the end of Wano!”
Multiple voices of the crowd came through, the majority of it negatively. After all, it was the norm. That he was. The abnormality, the insult of Wano, the crazy guy and so much more. At least after all these years of insults it made him feel dull to these comments. Who cares for these fools, as in the end his goal was nothing more than to save Wano’s future. Few mean words will not stop him from doing what he believed was right.
“What do I mean? Well let me ask you this? For hundreds of years Wano ruled under the rulership of the Kozuki in peace, strength and harmony. Nothing stopped us from living our lives as long as the Kozuki ruled our country. Like fate just decided nothing bad will happen in our lovely country, unless we were the one ruling this country.”
Coming closer, he widened his arms, as he looked at the crowd, most having hateful glares and were short to properly throw stuff at him, yet there was curiosity in their eyes.
“Yet what happens once another family gets to the top of the rulership? We got attacked and not only by someone, but a major force, known as the Animal Kingdom attacked us, one of the most powerful groups in the world. Now you are saying, we defeated them, right? Well , that's wrong.”
Giving a knowing yet painful look the swordsman grabbed the hilt of his blare.
“We never “defeated” them. We were not their priority. As you know a heft war between them and another group against the World Government, a powerful organization nearly ruling the whole world, reaches the end, with one of the two monsters. Their focus was solely on the war. We, Wano were nothing more, then a side note for them. Call it luck or fate, but in the end they retreated. Now the question is. How did they find their way to us and we never even got a notice for them to arrive?”
With a pause he gave a side glance to Yuto, as the crowd was strangely quiet, like the words were heavy enough to silence everything.
“You have no idea how that could happen, right “shogun”? It is not like it happened in the past…Oh wait! It did, like the other family allowed to rule beside the Kozuki’s the Kurozumi Family, where this rat used the one in milennia trust to invite this monster, causing Wano to suffer pain, hunger and despair, only to be saved by an outsider. Now that makes me question. If not for the war, what would happen if the beast herself came to our shores with her full force?”
