Elbaph is an island located in the New World that is inhabited by giants. Historically, it has hosted several kingdoms, but they have since been unified as a singular nation. Elbaph has long been considered to be the strongest country in the world due to its giant army, famed for its strength and warrior spirit. For this reason, the nation is sometimes known as Warland (ウォーランド Wōrando?).

It is currently ruled by Heidrun Thrymr, one of the Yonko and Captain of the Ragnarok Pirates.[2][3] Thrymr remains on the island most of the time, maintaining peace and prosperity upon it to grow it into a larger, more powerful kingdom.

General Information[]

Elbaph is a powerful kingdom belonging to a tribe of Giants. It has come under the rule of Heidrun Thrymr, its current king.[2] Prior to his coronation, Thrymr lived a life of piracy as the captain, or Fimbultyr, of the Ragnarok Pirates - which these events combined led to him being deemed a Yonko by the World Government.[3] Under his rule, the Heidrun family has become the new royal family, including his children by the late Queen Embla: Crown Princess Skadi, Royal Nott, and Prince Surtr.[4] His niece, Nanna, is also part of this family and is considered a princess.[5]

Elbaph is known to house at least one Poneglyph, with the known one being a Road Poneglyphs that contained information on how to arrive to Laugh Tale. It appears the Thrymr pilfered it during his time at sea and stowed it away when he returned to the island in a protected vault with other pieces of valuable information.

Elbaph is a monarchy ruled by a king or queen. It practices absolute absolute primogeniture, as seen by Skadi, King Thrymr's eldest child, being the heir to the throne over her brothers.[4] However, the king may be advised by a council of the heads of the noble clans of Elbaph. This council unofficially includes Norn, due to her high ranking status in the Ragnarok Pirates.[6]

Along with being a nation of Giants, Thrymr has allowed hybrids, such as Wotans and Behemoths, into the nation. Further, as the current user of the Soru Soru no Mi, Elbaph is also the current home of the Homies - which Thrymr refers to as Vaettir (ヴァエティル Vuaetiru?).

Kingdom Information[]

Geography and Locations[]

Elbaph is a mountainous island whose biggest and most notable landmark is the Yggdrasil - one of the Treasure Tree Adams - a legendary, colossal tree that grows in its center and dwarfs even the actual island itself. The tree's full height extends up to the clouds, with its lower branches forming an extra layer of land around its trunk's mid-section. This means Elbaph has at least two distinct regions in terms of altitude: one at sea level, and another above the tree's branches that surround its trunk. Appropriately enough, both the fauna and flora of Elbaph are overall comparatively huge to those found in most other islands.

The lower regions of Elbaph are known locally as the Underworld and consist primarily of snow-coated, forested mountains surrounding the Yggdrasil's base, with grassy plains near the coast where snowfall sometimes occurs. Because sunlight rarely hits the central mountains (due to the presence of the Yggdrasil), the climate is always very cold with raging blizzards. The freezing temperatures coupled with the multitude of giant, wild beasts that inhabit the mountain range make the whole territory very desolate and unsuitable for civilization. The same applies to the waters around the island, which feature similarly gigantic fauna and heavy, dense fog. As such, very few settlements appear to exist in those lands, mostly consisting of mountaintop castles and coastal taverns where sunlight is more prominent. Giants may come down to this region for hunting purposes, however, as the resident animals can provide them with ample nourishment.

The upper regions of Elbaph, above the Yggdrasil's branches, are where the island's giant population appears to live proper, with houses, watchtowers, a fortified castle and other urban constructs, as well as rivers of freshwater that fall on the ocean through waterfalls at the edge of the branches. Notably, a gigantic longsword appears to pierce the upper layer, reaching all the way down to the lower one. Forests also exist here, though its fauna is nowhere as big or threatening as the ones found in the Underworld. Traversal between both regions is possible through the use of rope bridges that connect the lower mountains with the central tree's branches.

Elbaph as a whole is located east of Wano Country. There is a stretch of sea that generates a strange mist with sleep-inducing properties near Elbaph as well.

Yggdrasil[]

The Yggdrasil (世界樹ユグドラシル Yugudorashiru?, literally meaning "World Tree") is a massive tree growing in the center of the island of Elbaph. The tree is highly important to the giants of Elbaph, with the giants living within its many branches. The Yggdrasil is, in reality, a Treasure Tree Adam - the strongest, highest-quality wood in the world. Much of the kingdom is built upon its large branches.

Underworld[]

The Underworld (冥界 Meikai?), also known as the First World (第一世界 Dai-Ichi Sekai?) in local legends, refers to the lower regions of Elbaph, below the Yggdrasil's branches and surrounding its base. It is a mostly frozen, inhospitable wasteland ruled by savage, powerful beasts. This area is so hostile that criminals are often punished by just being sent here, with it being described as a both a "prison" and an "execution ground" filled with the bones of giants and humans that have been long buried by the constant snow.

Aside from the gigantic fauna that dominates the territory, a few Humans who have managed to avoid death for opposing Elbaph are known to barely survive in this region as scavengers, covering themselves in smelly rags in order to avoid being eaten. Links of seastone chain can be found at the base of the Yggdrasil - buried deep beneath the snow. However, many hybrid populations have taken to living there, leaving the few humans of Elbaph much harder and rarer to find.

Bestalka[]

The sky island of Bestalka.

Bestalka is a Sky Island that Heidrun Thrymr claimed prior to his ascension to the throne, with it becoming a mobile fortress for him and the Ragnarok Pirates. This was achieved through the power of the Soru Soru no Mi, rendering it into a massive Vaettir. He would move the island to Elbaph with his rise to kinghood. It typically rests at the very top of the Yggdrasil, with its mighty roots anchoring it to the greater giant kingdom. This allows the giants of both islands to freely move back and forth between one another, effectively becoming one greater giant nation.

Wildlife[]

Elbaph is home to a diverse range of fauna, including bears, wolves, cats, hedgehogs, rabbits, gorillas, snakes, mice, snakes, and grasshoppers. Some creatures also appear as strange hybrids, such as a moose with reptilian features. However, the fauna is typically much larger than that of the animals of the rest of the world - being more proportionate to the Giants that call the island home.

Stingmore[]

The Stingmore (蜜蜂兵スティングモル Sutingumoru?, literally meaning "Honeybee Troop") is a species of massive bee native Elbaph. They appear to be around the size of large clouds. Like normal bees, they possess a powerful and toxic sting.

Toskr Squirrel[]

Toskr Squirrels (トスクリス Tosukurisu?) are a species of squirrels that inhabit Elbaph.[7] They are a massive, fearsome species that act much differently than average squirrels. While common squirrels tend to eat nuts, seeds, and bugs, Toskr Squirrels are carnivores that hunt in packs - almost seeming like hybrid of a wolf and squirrel in the process.

They are feared as the apex predator of Elbaph and only the most experienced of hunters are allowed to hunt them. They possess incredibly sharp claws and a unicorn-like horn growing from their head.

Yule Cat[]

Yule Cats (ユールキャット Yūrukyatto?) are a species of cats that inhabit Elbaph.[8]

Grenadier Frog[]

Grenadier Frogs (グレネードフロッグ Gurenēdofuroggu?) are a species of frogs that inhabit Elbaph.[9]

Gjallar Mammoth[]

Gjallar Mammoths (ギャラルマンモス Gyararumanmosu?) are a species of mammoths that inhabit Elbaph.[10] Gjaller Mammoths are physically very strong and one of the mightiest animals in all of Elbaph. However, they act as a favorite prey item to the giants of Elbaph and to successful packs Toskr Squirrels and lucky Yule Cats. Due to their massive size, even one can feed a village with ease.

As a defense to the creatures that hunt it, Gjallar Mammoths developed a defense mechanism. Using their massive trunks, they can release a high pitched bellow that can momentarily stun hunters and predators, allow the creatures a chance to flee.

While typically prey for the Giants, some Gjallar Mammoths have been tamed and used as mounts for their magnificent size and power.

Clans[]

Heidrun Clan[]

The Heidrun clan was a relatively smaller clan of nobles prior to being promoted to the royal family. They are represented with the goat on their family crest. Members of the clan include Thrymr, Skadi, Nott, Surtr, and Nanna. It also had Embla by her marriage to Thrymr. Thrymr is the current leader of the clan and king of the nation.

Sigyn Clan[]

The Sigyn clan is one of the older and more powerful noble clans on Elbaph. They are represented with a snake on their family crest. They produced Emblra, the late queen of Elbaph. As such, their blood will assume the throne with Skadi.

Bestla Clan[]

The Bestla clan is a powerful noble clan of warriors. They pride themselves on their swordsmanship, producing many power sword wielders. Their symbolic animal upon their crest is the bear. Their current clan leader is Angrboda.

History[]

The island of Elbaph has long stood as the kingdom of the Giants. Due to the vast physical strength, longevity, and durability of the Giant race, it has long been held as the strongest nation in the world, sought after by the World Government and Yonko alike. In its history, it has come to possess one of the 12 Supreme Grade Meito in the form of Gungnir. It also possesses a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit that is hailed as the guardian deity of the island, the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Fenrir.

Eventually, the ruling family of Elbaph died out. This led to the nobles of the island holding a tournament amongst their families to see who would come to rule the island as its new royal family. Of the clans, the smallest of the nobles won with Heidrun Thrymr, who had accumulated great strength in his travels as the Captain of the Ragnarok Pirates. His life of piracy and newfound lordship over Elbaph quickly had him labelled a Yonko by the World Government.

Trivia[]

  • Elbaph was claimed by Kamui prior to the creation of the application system.
  • Elbaph's culture is based on Viking Age Scandinavia with references to Norse mythology. Within One Piece: Eclipse, the references to Norse mythology have been pushed more.
  • When the page for Elbaph was created here, it was popularly romanized as Elbaf prior to Chapter 1130 of the One Piece manga officially making it Elbaph. As such, some pages still use the Elbaf spelling.
  • Elbaph, with its other popular romanization of Elbaf, is the word "fable" backwards. Phonetically, "ph" makes the same sound as an "f", thus the intent is likely the same.
