The Doa Doa no Mi is a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows the user to create doors through anything they touch, making the user a Door Human (ドア人間, Doa Ningen?). The doors they create can be created from any part of their body, from the palm of their hands to their whole body itself, and usually take the shape and form of the body part creating it. The doors remain as passageways anyone can pass through until closed completely. It was eaten by Red Texas.
Etymology[]
- "Doa" comes from the Japanese pronunciation of "door".
- In the VIZ manga and Funimation dub, it is called the Door-Door Fruit.
Appearance[]
The Doa Doa no Mi is a round, reddish Devil Fruit almost shaped like a hatch door made out of a pineapple. The Pineapple stem is curled and shaped up like a hatch, while the spikes carry all of the swirls upon the Fruit. The insides of the fruit meanwhile are green-ish.
Strengths and Weaknesses[]
The fruit's first and foremost strength, as demonstrated by Texas and the Fruit's previous users, is that it gives its user the ability to create a door on almost any solid surface so that they can enter through. This allows them and anyone else passage through the object no matter how thick or strong it is. Though this ability is normally used to gain free passage, the user can also exploit this in other ways, such as trapping an opponent's feet in small doors created underneath them. This power can also be used on living persons as well and can thus be used to deter opponents by creating doors on their body in order to immobilize them.
One of the greatest strengths of this fruit's powers, however, is that the user can also create doors through the very atmosphere itself. These Air Doors lead into a pocket dimension of sorts that is apparently within the air itself. This is ideal for escape or stealth purposes, since this dimension not only allows the user and anyone else accompanying them to travel across vast distances, but also provides a safe haven for them should they need to hide from an enemy or survive through large scale attacks. Its only downside is that while inside this pocketed dimension, the user has no means to interact with the real world other than to exit first to return themselves back there.
Perhaps the Fruit's most prominent weakness is that once "doors" have been manifested, rather than remaining that way indefinitely, they will automatically re-seal themselves once again after a set amount of time, regardless of the user's intentions. According to Red, this is because "if a door is open, it must close." In addition, although the doors are capable of disorienting the opponent or cause them to miss attacks, it cannot directly kill an opponent meaning the Fruit is much more defensive when it comes to combat rather than offensive.
In addition to this, the other most prominent weakness is that the doors are only sized proportionate to the user's current size. For a user who is naturally large this is not much of a threat but for someone like Texas this serves as a major obstacle to helping others get away. However, this only applies to the physical doors, as through the use of the Air Door ability Red is capable of making as big of a door as she needs. It is noted though that making an Air Door bigger than the user costs a major amount of stamina, and closes much faster than regular sized Air Doors.
Besides that, the user suffers from the regular Devil Fruit weaknesses.
Usage[]
When it comes to using the Fruit, Texas mainly uses it in regards to travel. Opening up Air Doors, she can rapidly traverse an island in order to shorten travel by a significant amount while also giving her the opportunity to ambush her foes and collect intel. Due to her nuclear reactor heart she is capable of lasting within the Air Door dimension for far longer than her predecessors, though due to being unable to hurt people in turn unless they are also in the dimension she mainly uses the Fruit in combat to catch foes off guard so that she can land her cybernetic attacks.
Techniques[]
- Door Door (ドアドア, Doa Doa?): The fruit's basic technique. Texas makes a door on any surface she chooses, with her body serving as the actual doorway and the doorframe's shape reflecting her current outline. She can do this by herself or with the assistance of someone.
- Air Door (空気開扉, Ea Doa, literally meaning "Aerial/Atmospheric Door Opening"): Texas makes a door in the air itself, allowing to access a separate space where she can hide and move undetected. The more stamina she pours into the technique, the bigger that she can make the Air Door, up to the limit of creating a 50 meter tall door.
- Hatch Door (ハッチドア, Hatchi Doa): Texas Red creates a door within the ground or ceiling and hops downward/upwards into the door. This technique lets her rapidly descend buildings without needing to use the stairs, or climb up a building rapidly.
- Spinning Waist Door (スピニングウエストドア Boshi Uesuto Doa): Texas grabs onto a opponent's waist and spins around them, causing the target's body to rapidly spin around like a revolving door with enough force to create a whirlwind. Despite leaving the target greatly dizzied from the spinning, Texas primarily uses the move in order to build up momentum so that she can target another foe with even greater force, often chaining up uses until she reaches maximum velocity.
- Revolver Door (リボルバードア, Riboruba Doa): Texas shoots forward a shot and then creates a revolving door within the air, spinning the bullet rapidly within the air. She can use this technique multiple times in order to change the direction of her physical projectiles, giving them the illusion of homing in on her opponents. Notably this technique only works on physical attacks, as lasers such as her Revolver Revolution attack are unaffected by the Revolver Door technique.
- Shortcut Door (ショートカットドア Shōtokatto Doa): Texas opens a Air Door and shoots a projectile through it, before using her ability to open a second one right on top of the opponent using a Rocket Punch fired simultaneously with the initial projectile. Using the speed provided by travelling through the Air Door, the technique makes the projectile bypass other attacks before hitting the opponent head-on. Uniquely, this attack is incorporated completely into Red Texas's Revolver Revolution technique, proving it's compatibility with non-physical projectiles such as lasers.
