Dai Raga Tachiuchi Kyō Sen is a halberd and one of the 21 Great Grade Swords. It is currently in the possession of LeBlanc Corvo.

Appearance[]

This is an ugly weapon, a tool designed not for glorious battle but brutal execution. Worn and chipped along its blade edge, it looks like ancient weapon from the days of old. And indeed it is a former tool of the World Government, it was once used as an instrument to administer death; the so-called executioner's ax. It was said to have been forged from the last guillotine, carrying with it the souls of the damned whose heads were felled by its blade. It is a cursed weapon, a bloodthirsty weapon that craves flesh insatiably.

Dark and ominous in its appearance, the weapon has an aura that seems to cast light aside, forever shrouding it in heavy darkness. The weapon is rather large, almost twice the size of any ordinary halberd extending over twelve feet in length. Its blackened and chipped axe head hints of extensive wear and tear and it is permanently stained with a distinct rusted hue, no doubt from its time as a tool of execution. The blade edge is decorated with strange cuneiform that when read seem almost hypnotically mesmerizing, as an indistinct voice beckons almost sickeningly sweetly drawing one in.

The tip of this halberd bears a long and winding spike for boring into succulent flesh. It too bears extensive signs of use, as if prior to execution the hapless victim was tortured gruesomely before their untimely demise. Despite the apparent wear on the weapon, its current form bears the same fearsome durability and immense sharpness befitting its grade and status as a meito. The pommel is perhaps the only ordinary part of this weapon, bearing a simple square design.

Abilities[]

Techniques[]

  • Gallows Execution (絞首処刑 Kōshu Shokei?): This is a powerful downward stroke using the axe head of Dai Raga. The power generated by this attack is enough to create a powerful shockwave upon release. The shockwave's purpose is to disrupt, damage and dismantle internal defenses just moments before the axe head itself cleaves through a target ensuring a proper execution.
  • Hangman's Noose (絞首縄罠 Kōshu Nawawana?): Corvo spins his weapon creating a vortex of powerful winds that rapidly draw in nearby opponents and suspend them in a swirling funnel, much like arranging the convicted on the gallows to be hanged.
  • Hanged Draw and Quarter (絞首引裂き四裂 Kōshu Hikisaki Shiretsu?): Corvo swings Dai Raga in a circular manner releasing a ring-shaped flying slash attack. The ring has unique properties in that even if the initial strike misses the ring will circle around for another strike, furthermore as it cuts the ring shrinks, which increases its cutting potential until it reaches maximum cutting strength before dissipating.
  • Final Verdict (最後の判決 Saigo no Hanketsu?): This technique is the only one that utilizes the cursed power within Dai Raga, allowing the blood-stained past and souls condemned to damnation manifest as a dark miasma that coats the weapon.

History[]

Originally found in the ruins of an old Marine weapons depot, according to the scant reports Corvo could gather, the weapon despite its worn appearance was every bit as formidable as many other legendary weapons, but its tendency to drive its wielders to madness forced the World Government to seal it away. While undercover as a pirate, the crew he was with stumbled upon this treasure trove.

The Captain at the time naturally claimed this weapon as his own, despite the ominous and dark aura it possessed. The crew felt uncomfortable in its presence and attempted to warn the captain from its use but by that point, simply grasping the weapon had subsumed his mind with bloodlust. In short order he slew his crew in a wild frenzy, with Corvo barely escaping with his life by chaining the captain to the ship and summarily detonating all their munitions to sink the ship. Corvo nearly lost his life that day, and somehow wound up on shore of a nearby island.

As he turned his head, to his shock he found himself gripping that very same weapon. Despite numerous attempts to abandon it, somehow, someway it always found its way back to him. Someone or something would stumble across it, and through the vicissitudes of fate, and the changing of hands, it inevitably would be in his possession again.

At the time he wasn't strong enough to resist its allure, and when he did handle the weapon he felt only an odd calm, as if the weapon itself was content. Corvo liked to think that maybe, just maybe this strange and murderous weapon found his belief in justice humorous? His contradictory perspective, his willingness to engage in barbarism, tempered by his selfish, and childish desire for true justice. It was used as a tool of this supposed justice after all.

In time he learned of its name, the old name bestowed upon it perhaps by the very soul that now resides within it? He can never be too sure, but with his observation he can feel the aura of the deadly weapon, a perverse mix of near overwhelming thirst for blood and flesh, yet it is contained within this impenetrable wall, a resolute sense of… something deep and profound. Corvo thinks it could be justice, but when he isn't lying to himself, in those moments right before he succumbs to slumber that errant thought always slips through, a belief deep in his heart that he knows to be true; that the weapon is merely patient. It knows that in his hands, filled with rage at injustice but so helpless to do anything about it, that he’ll raise this weapon high and slaughter as many people as it takes till that stupid childish dream of justice comes to fruition.
