Crimson Grudge is a cursed sword forged by the son of a slain Marine, and given to Graves following the events of Sea Star Grave End. Despite the blacksmiths unremarkable status, in his grief over his fathers death he was able to pour his love, hate and all of his sorrow into this sword. As a result it bears a peculiar curse, one that Graves is determined to overcome.

Surprisingly this blacksmith was able to create a Grade weapon, a sword that stands above all other ungraded blades possessed of exceptional sharpness, and durability. It is also lightweight considering its size as it stands at almost the same height as Graves himself, well over two meters in length.

The sword bears its name due to the nature of its cursed power, as it is able to absorb the negative emotions of the user and transform them into power as it glows a crimson red. The sword itself carries the grudge of its creator as well as that of any who wields it.

Appearance[]

History[]

Following the encounter with Lysander in Sea Star Grave End, Graves realized he needed to not only grow stronger, but to upgrade his arsenal. Most importantly the acquisition of a proper sword. Still before he would see about appropriating one he had his duties to carry out. He oversaw the clean up of Andregail, including the recovery of the bodies and personal effects of the Marines who died due to the actions of the pirate Lysander.

As the highest ranking officer he also had the solemn duty of the death notifications. Which meant writing letters and seeing those on base in-person to inform them of their loved ones passing. It was during one of these moments that he encountered the son of one of the Marines originally stationed on Andregail.

He was something of a smith, and had been forging a weapon for his late father, to better carry out his duties. Upon learning of his fathers untimely demise, he was distraught. Like many before him and many after. Graves simply offered his silence, and presence as support, and didn’t think much of the encounter. But the son, a weaponsmith, went back to his forge and began finishing his fathers weapon. But this time his pride turned to grief, his joy to sorrow, and his love to hatred.

Once Graves completed his task, he was given a notice by one of his officers, that one of the aggrieved wanted to speak with him again. Graves, thinking nothing of it, returned to the smith. To his surprise, he was greeted by the son carrying a weapon, his completed weapon that is. But it had been warped by his fury, and twisted to become a cursed blade.

He told Graves that he finished his fathers sword, but something was wrong with it. That he felt drained, filled with sorrow and loss, and that the sword seemed to be the embodiment of his rage. He didn’t want that. He didn’t want the gift intended for his father, his legacy in a way to be remembered this way.

He asked Graves if he could take it, and use it in his fathers stead. To bring justice. To save people. To turn this twisted blade into something pure. It was a heartfelt plea and Graves did need a new sword but he wasn’t sure if he was capable of handling a weapon so visibly wretched. It had an aura around it, one that disturbed him, but his pride as a Marine and his eagerness to see this young man’s wish be fulfilled won over his doubts.

So Graves took the blade. He then understood what the young men meant. Upon grasping the handle of the sword, he could immediately feel the unbridled rage surging within the sword, an unquenchable thirst for vengeance and retribution twisted into an endless lust for blood. Yet despite that, the weapon was of remarkable quality, however tainted it may be.

The young smith told him the name he gave to it, "Crimson Grudge", a sword meant to avenge those who have suffered loss, to be judge and executioner, a weapon to destroy evil. But, he also wished that Graves would turn it into a sword of hope. So Graves graciously accepted the blade, and though it attempts to compel him to kill, and destroy, his will prevails.

Abilities[]

Overview[]

After acquiring the Meito from the smith, Graves would go on to use the abilities of his Devil Fruit to further modify and improve the weapon to suit his fighting style. One of the primary choices was equipping a firearm to the blade granting it a new unique appearance. As a cleaver its form was more optimized for this hybridization as it now has a reinforced barrel running along its spine, seamlessly integrated into the blade’s structure. The hilt contains a revolver style chamber for Dials and standard firearm ammunition.

  • Firing Mechanism: The equipped firearm barrel runs through the blade, allowing Graves to fire ranged shots while swinging the sword or after a strike. It features a revolver-style chamber for Dials, which when triggered imbues the blade’s attacks with elemental or concussive power.
  • Elemental Shells: Refers to the elemental dials used when triggered by the firearm portion to enhance the sword attacks of Crimson Grudge. Using any of the dials such as the Flame, Thunder, Water, Breath, or Impact Graves can imbue the blade portion with that element to greatly empower his melee attacks. Furthermore after the events of Sea Star Grave End, Graves has adopted an approach to utilize more dials and elements in tandem to create newer more deadlier effects.

Cursed Power[]

When this sword was constructed, the negative emotions of the smith who forged it were imbued into the weapon. Filled with the young man's sorrow, guilt and rage it has become a cursed weapon that bears a grudge, hence its name. It is a grudge against evil, against injustice and tyranny, and using the wielder it will enact its vengeance. Graves has struggled to "tame" the weapon but has vowed that he will eventually free it from its cursed state, a solemn promise he made to the young smith who forged it. Even in its dormant state its cursed power can be felt by any who grasps the blade.

Dormant State (Crimson Edge): This cursed sword feeds off the negative emotions of the wielder, glowing a bright red as it converts these emotions to power. As its power grows, so does its sharpness, as wounds inflicted by this sword do not heal easily, and cause severe bloodletting similar to a hemotoxin.

Awakened State (Burning Blade): When armament haki is channeled into the blade, the sword's true power manifests. Beyond just feeding off the negative emotions of the wielder, the direct channeling of their will enables it to turn that will into a blistering conflagration that wreathes the blade in a crimson flame. These flames leave festering wounds that cause excessive bleeding similar its to its dormant state, but also leaves plumes of flames wherever it strikes and when struck or after impact a second time detonates with explosive force.
