The Calm Belt borders the North and South of the Grand Line, acting as a barrier for any wishing to enter the Grand Line from the Four Blues and forcing them to take the route through Reverse Mountain

Overview[]

The Calm Belt runs along both the North and South of the Grand Line, preventing those within the Four Blues from easily entering the Grand Line. Acting as an effective barrier as within the Calm belt the sea is completely, as the name suggests, calm. No ocean currents flow through the calm belt for does the wind blow, immediately making it difficult for any non-self propelled ship to pass through. However, the greatest danger comes from the fact that the Calm Belt is known to be the nesting ground for the largest Sea Kings in the world. Meaning even those with the means to move through the calm belt will more than likely come face to face with many deadly threats those seeking to enter the Grand Line from the Four Blues will be incapable of dealing with.

However, navigation through the calm belt is not impossible. Ships whose hulls are lined with Sea Prism Stone are capable of passing through the Calm Belt undetected by the monsterous Sea Kings who lie beneath the calm water surface. Due to the rarity of Sea Stone and the even more rare smiths and wrights capable of properly handling the rare material ships lined with Sea Stone are most commonly found among the Navy.

Though the seas of the calm belt may appear still as death, it is still home to many islands. Among them being the well known Amazon Lily and the lesser known Akitsushima.

The most infamous location within the calm belt is no doubt the maximum security underwater prison known as Impel Down. The last stop for many pirates, criminals, and any who defy the World Government.
