The Birdfolk are a race of humanoid individuals which stand out for their avian features. They are commonly referred to as simply Bird Minks due to the similarities between the two species.

Most members of this tribe live on the living island Fugle.

Appearance[]

The appearance of birdfolk is primarily that of a very feathered body. While some members might have less prominent feathers, it isn't rare to see members fully covered in them. All birdfolk have unique and defining color patterns on their feathers, which correspond to a specific bird from which they take their traits. With uniquely formed legs that take on the appearance of bird legs. All avians have a set of wings, never more than two wings. However, there are a multitude of ways a members wings could form. Most members of the tribe have heads resembling birds, topped off with sharp beaks. However some members could have more human-like heads.

Back Wings[]

Considered the more coveted of the two. Birdfolk can have their wings form on their backs, essentially forming completely new limbs. Leaving their arms unimpeded or hindered by the formation of their wings.

Arm Wings[]

Considered the lesser, though seen that way by barely any. Birdfolk with wings that grow from their arms do not have the advantage of using their arms while flying. A advantage birdfolk with wings protruding from their backs have. And for this and multiple other reasons, they are weaker than their more versatile counterparts.

Biology[]

Due to their unique bird features, members will often grow considerable strength in their wings. Thanks to the necessity of flight for the species, their wings are used quite often, and most members will have enough strength in their wings to easily overpower any regular human. All birdfolk share this trait of strong wings, be they on their backs or arms. However, the wings might grow from the backs of some birdfolk. They are weaker compared to the wings sprouting from a birdfolk's arms instead.

Birdfolk tend to have a much lower amount of fat in their bodies. Due to the necessity of being as light as possible for them, the bones of birdfolk are also made up of a similar but lighter material than the bones of other species. These unique bones are often coveted by poachers, who will seek out avians for their bones. While also reducing their weight, making flying easier. Finally, rather than other races, which can have members of considerably large heights, birdfolk are typically restricted to a height of around 2 meters. Being much like an average human in their heights.

Hybrids[]

In the scenario where an offspring is born that is a combination of a birdfolk and another race, the features of a birdfolk are often more potent than those of other races. Particularly in their legs, feathers, unique bones, and the formation of their wings. In most cases, these traits are prevalent in hybrids; however, features like their restricted heights are not accounted for in the formation of a hybrid. Hybrids are not a common sight though, specifically on Fugle.

Human-Birdfolk[]

Likely the most basic of species mixed with the avians. Also the most normal, as it is not uncommon to see human-birdfolk hybrids compared to other crossbreeds. Hybrids with this species are considered quite normal. And follow the scheme of having more bird like legs and wings sprouting from their backs or arms. Lighter bodies and greater upper body strength.

Inter-Species Relationships[]

Birdfolk who live in the native land of their tribe usually follow the same beliefs. While this may differ in regions outside of that land, birdfolk hold quite the standard for members of their race. Males are often praised for having less colorful feathers. For females, it’s the opposite. Furthermore, birdfolk commonly have specific roles based on gender. As women are forbidden from participating in some activities, even being seen as belongings by some of the more high-class birdfolk. While males, especially those of lower social status, are expected to be hardworking, strong soldiers who could protect the kingdom.
