Bayushi Minamoto is a member of the Rakshasa Tribe, though he hails from Wano Country. A prodigal samurai, he dreamed of walking the same path as the protector of Wano, a man he greatly admired. Sadly his path would diverge and he would eventually be exiled from his home country and wander the New World. In search of what remains a mystery.

Appearance[]

Towering at over sixteen feet in height, the samurai is wreathed in the regalia of an honored warlord among his caste, a gleaming red armor with a design unique to Wano Country, with stylized pauldrons that cover his shoulders and arms. An ominous red demonic mask is adorned on his face, as glowing yellow eyes peer from beneath the crimson crown, on which another yellow jewel in the sits while twin horns jut outward from either side. A crimson cloak hangs from his shoulders that ends with a tuft of white fur from a beast slain in his past, the sole remnant of his home he can never return to.

He wields a blade of burning gold, that sheds an unnatural light, yet in its presence one can feel only awe, or fear. Beneath his armor he wears a simple black and white robe, and long flowing black trousers. He walks with a grace unbefitting a being of his size, yet there is power in every step. His presence demands fear, and those who listen to that instinct will avoid the man at all cost.

Overview[]

Physical Abilities[]

Swordsmanship[]

Minamoto is an exceptionally skilled and prodigal swordsman hailing from Wano. He honed his blade, practicing with such diligence and fervor to escape the hell of solitude, and keep at bay his ghoulish hunger. The sword is more than just a mere weapon, it is a spiritual belief, a method to deepen ones understanding of the self and of the world around him, one sword stroke at a time. Even after he fought beasts and bandits who all sought to slay him, it was his tremendous strength and exquisite skill with a blade that felled them all. After his exile from Wano, Minamoto traveled the New World, lost and without purpose and so he did what he had always done, train, focus and kill. Instead of mountain beasts he slew Sea-Kings, instead of bandits he waged war against pirates, seeking to redeem the haunting tragedy of his past.

His swordsmanship was originally oriented towards that of the Strong Blade, as those of his race possess formidable physical brute strength, and such techniques and principles came easily to Minamoto. His sword strikes were heavy, and powerful. He would later venture and learn about the world and acquired the grace necessary to wield his blade with more technique than strength. And as he grew in power, and after acquiring his Devil Fruit did he begin to understand true power, and by then he learned to fuse his two independent styles into a singular one. This culmination in strength, speed and technique would allow him to develop a truly devastating art, one capable of catapulting him to perhaps a new dream - to become the greatest swordsman of the world!

Maken[]

Ittōryū - Maken (一刀流・鬼権 One Sword Style - Demonic Authority?) is the first sword style developed by Minamoto. It is a Strong Blade style of swordsmanship, as it leverages the awesome strength afforded to him by his heritage as a Rakshasa. At its core this style emphasizes the very core movements and strokes of swordsmanship, only honed and mastered to an absurd level. It affords him a degree of technical precision and skill that is far beyond what whom have trained traditionally to use, as they quickly ascend to more complex sword maneuvers in their respective style. As a result while it is basic in terms of its complexity the sheer depth of each attack is extraordinary. A single slash possesses immense power, generating incredible force and pressure that can be expertly controlled by Minamoto. These techniques are powerful, each swing capable of sending ripples of shockwaves at his opponents, as he moves methodically with incredible speed to destroy his opponents. It is a style wholly dedicated to offense, as his innate toughness and durability allow him to withstand otherwise fatal attacks without suffering much injury. He forgoes traditional defensive techniques in favor of overwhelming power, unleashing his strength and power in techniques designed to break, shatter and utterly annihilate his foes. This style is at heart the embodiment of the ruthless and predatorial instinct that resides within him, only seeking to consume and devour everything before him.

  • Saiganki (砕岩機 Rock Crusher?): An overhead vertical stroke that after attaining mastery unleashes a shockwave of pressurized air crushing everything in an expanding outward cone from the direction of the attack. A principle sword technique, the downward stroke is one of the most basic sword movements of any sword style. However in the hands of someone with such monstrous strength as Minamoto, coupled with his mastery, it when swung with his intent becomes a technique all on its own. The shockwave it releases is generated by the intense air pressure that crushes, not cuts everything in its path, hence its name. Rather than cutting through a boulder it blows the entire thing away under the force of the blow.
  • Tenretsu (天裂 Sky Rend?): An ascending or overhead slash that launches a linear shockwave, and a wave of compressed air. This staggering power of this technique can split apart buildings and has a form less like a flying air slash and is more akin to an expanding wave growing wider and larger the greater the distance. Its name is derived from when Minamoto split apart storm clouds during a battle, in which the darkness, rain and lightning was giving his foes an advantage. This technique doesn't cut so much as completely blow and obliterate everything in its path with brute physical force.
  • Shukuchi (縮地 Shrinking Earth?): A devastating slam into the earth releasing a shockwave into the earth causing a miniature earthquake. The ground cracks and rips apart sending debris flying up with a powerful stomp using a foot or a downward punch into the ground. This rupture can be used to disrupt the movements of those on the ground, and is often a technique meant to disrupt approaching enemies. Minamoto is extremely skilled with this technique having perfected the movements to allow him to simply tap the ground with a toe or heel to create the earth-shattering detonation. He is also skilled enough to direct the shockwave in whatever direction he desires.
  • Shukuchi Ho (縮地歩 Shrinking Earth Step?): A variation of the original technique, it is a step method or high-speed movement technique. Using his brute strength to instantly accelerate, he is able to move at blindingly fast speeds with only his footsteps crashing into the ground being the only indication of his passage. As he moves he leaves behind blasted earth in his wake, making this a devastating technique to use in close combat. Each step increases also increases his speed with a correlating drain on his stamina. This technique bears a similarity to the Rokushiki technique Soru, however given Minamoto's vast physical strength he only needs a single stomp to initiate this technique.
  • Ranken Tachikiri (嵐剣断ち切り Tempest Sword Cleave?): Minamoto launches forward at high speed with Shukuchi Ho, before spinning rapidly to generate a hurricane of pressurized air waves and rotating shockwaves that both slashes and crushes anything in its path resembling a very short by wildly expanding whirlwind. Anything directly in front is slashed into nothing while everything above and below is blown away by the shockwaves. This technique was named after Minamoto tore apart a storm being used by a an ninja wielding sorcery to rain lightning and storms.
  • Mumyo Jinpuu (無明神風 Divine Wind of Darkness?): An iaijutsu-based technique wherein Minamoto draws and swings his sword so fast that it doesn't actually appear to even leave the sheath. This supreme level of iaijutsu is further enhanced by the strength behind it, as when he performs this technique he releases a spiraling compressed air wave that when it impacts a target it continues to revolve and slash continuously. Visually it appears like a spiral of several slashes happening all at once in an orbit around whatever was hit. It is visually one of his most stunning and beautiful techniques despite it being a Maken sword technique.
  • Hien Zanshu (日炎斬首 Sun Flame Decapitation?): A technique based on the more infamous foxfire style. Unlike the former, Minamoto cannot sheath his blade in flame. However, what he trades in offense, he gains an immense increase in his ability to cut, sever and banish flames. With a single sword stroke Minamoto can cleave through and completely overwhelm huge swathes of flame. He is also able to deflect, redirect and cut through explosions with even greater ease.
  • Hien Zanshu Ni No Tachi (日炎斬首 - 弐の太刀 Sun Flame Decapitation - Second Strike?): An advanced version of the Hien Zanshu. After cleaving through a storm, Minamoto was forced to contend with bolts of lightning. By adapting his swordsmanship and technique he developed this technique to cut through what he refers to as the heavenly flame, that is lightning. Using his sword skills he can cleave through lightning or other high energy attacks directed at him.

Haki[]

Further information: Haki

Minamoto is capable of using both armament and observation Haki.

Busoshoku Haki[]

Within Wano Country, the practice of busoshoku haki is widely known as Ryūō (流桜 Flowing Cherry Blossom?), which is based on controlling the inner flow of one's spiritual energy. One can only be called a Samurai when they are able to at least manifest and control this power. It is well known and compared to the rest of the world, its knowledge and teachings are readily practiced within Wano. Minamoto is quite skilled in it, having devoted the entirety of his youth to the sword, freed from distractions and other silly things that could occupy his time, Minamoto trained with relentless abandon. His desire to be more than just a monster required that he demonstrate the qualities of a samurai, and so he went around swinging his sword against bandits, beasts and if need the very elements of nature itself.

His ryuo is perhaps his most trained ability, as given the unique nature of his sword, it demands the imbuement of haki at all times to properly function. As a result every sword blow he makes is infused with his power, and as a result his stamina with regards to the use of his ryuo is truly immense. Possibly due to his Rakshasa nature his warrior-like instincts have pushed him to seek battle and conflict. After manifesting this ability he began instinctually using armament hardening on his body during a fight, which is one of the reasons his first sword style the Maken has little to no defensive techniques. For a time Minamoto simply believed that he was just shrugging off attacks directed at him, only believing that taking too many attacks would tire him out. It wasn't until he joined his fellow band of samurai that this misconception was addressed. Since then he has developed a more active control, and at times practices hardening his entire body for fun, since the strain while noticeably is one of the few ways he discovered that could actually wind him in short order. But as he has trained this, the time he can maintain it has increased drastically, much to his dismay.

Minamoto's Bokuto[]

Minamoto does not own any swords of any renown or worth. To be fair he was never wealthy enough to afford one. So he fashioned himself a wooden sword to train with in his youth. Instead what he has in his possession looks very convincingly like a katana, but it is in fact not. It is a simple bokuto (木剣, lit. "Wooden Sword"), that has been painted to appear as a katana along with a wooden sheath. Despite the fact that it is a wooden sword, the craftsmanship, detail and paint are convincing enough that it is only until one is holding the weapon do they realize the deception. As it is a simple wooden sword it has no real cutting power, and is unsuited for battle. However, it is Minamoto's primary weapon, as in order to use he must imbue the weapon with ryuo lest it be destroyed. His reason being, is that his actions that fateful night which led to his exile filled him with regret. As a result if he's going to take a life, if he's going to kill or destroy something with his sword, it shouldn't be easy. It should require a bit of effort. By imbuing ryuo into his bokuto, it becomes powerful enough, sharp enough to cut. This is something, a secret he never told anyone. Which is why he calls his "sword" Hiruma Konbō (昼間棍棒 Daytime Cudgel?).

History[]

Early Childhood[]

Minamoto was raised as an orphan in Wano Country, but even then he was always taller, stronger and far more durable than his peers. With his monstrous yellow eyes, horns and sharp teeth, he was always considered as something of a monster. But in that boys heart he dreamed of acceptance, loathing the pit of loneliness he oft found himself. That is until he looked upon the Great Protector of Wano - Akutsuno Ryosei. Bearing a semblance to the man what with his growing horns, as a childish attempt at emulating the man he admired, he broke one of his horns, deliberately keeping it short. He was enamored by the man's journey, and sought to walk that selfsame past.

Yet he encountered difficulties, despite his eagerness, and found it difficult to connect to the people around him. Some instinct knew they were different from him, beneath him, prey. It was a horrifying sentiment and he desperately tried to keep it contained, to not let it show, but somehow it probably did. People tended to avoid, not out of prejudice but of some primal instinct that he was not like them, that if they would let their guard down, he would do something terrible. This did little to help the boy who was ostracized so he dedicated himself wholly to the blade. Both to live up to the dream he had, and to escape the gnawing hunger that gripped him.

In time, his efforts would on some level be rewarded. Wano Country adored its prodigies, and valued the skill of its members. Hunting beasts and patrolling the mountains, he became something of a protector which earned him a favorable reputation. He was invited to join an illustrious team of budding samurai who too showed promise and dedication to Wano. His dreams were finally in reach, and he could walk the path of a samurai with honor. But one's nature is not something so easily denied, and in his desire to seek the truth of the sword he eschewed contact with people, and being thrust in the midst of so many people all at once, well, it ignited the instinct within him.

This would all come to head one fateful night. His party of talented swordsman had defeated yet another faction of bandits and would-be yakuza attempting to rebuild what they lost, and had been soundly vanquished by their party, and so they celebrated! Drinks and food aplenty, and Minamoto unused to the festivities began to indulge, and all those years of restraint came crashing down in a violent and bloody storm. At some point he blacked out, and when When he was roused from his slumber, he discovered that he was drenched in blood, the party he was beginning to care for were dead, dismembered and torn apart, with chunks missing as if a wild animal had torn through and devoured them in a frenzy.

Yet he felt so nourished, so satiated than had ever felt in a long time. He often gave what he killed to the nearby villages, saving but a morsel for himself, but this too he considered part of his training, to divest from the needs of the flesh to focus on the spirit, on the sword. But now he felt as if he had eaten his full and then some. Even then he could still taste the delicious flavor upon his tongue, an aroma that was sickeningly sweet, yet succulent and bursting with flavor. But he was confused, because he couldn't quite place what he had eaten. The dichotomy of his situation was strange even to him, and he felt unsure as when he looked upon the corpses of his fallen allies he felt, nothing. It was rather alarming, as he searched for clues as to what happened that previous night.

Shouting from outside the rather damaged shack they had stayed in drew him out where he found a squad of guards stood weapons at the ready, pointed squarely at him as he stepped out. He was promptly informed of the events last night, how he had gone into something like a blood frenzy, driven by his drunken state and slaughtered his teammates, slew them in cold blood, and worse, he feasted upon them like a demon out of myth. His strength which he had honed to protect had become an insurmountable mountain his allies could not overcome, especially not with their guard down. They demanded for his arrest, with many calling for his execution, and just like that, all his years of hard work, his dreams, fell apart.

Its unknown as to what justice truly transpired, or why he was simply not slain for his crimes, but in the end he was given a choice; exile or death. He chose exile and was forever banished from Wano Country, never to set foot on its hallowed soil again, lest the very protector himself stand against him and slay him with his blade. And so, with little to his name save a reputation for death and slaughter, Minamoto left his home in search of answers of who or better what he is.

Early to Mid Teens[]

Learning to sail and navigate the seas was a bitter experience for Minamoto. His body was ill suited to the waters as he soon discovered that he could not swim.
