History[]
Past[]
Bartho grew up on a small island in the first half of the Grandline known as Paradise. His family was known on the island for their honor and skill with the blade and were the guardians of the island. Being born as the third child and second son of the head of the Bearsplitter clan a great importance was placed on Bartho's head. While he was not the first in line to inherit the title of family leader it was impressed upon him that he must hold himself in a "honorable and dignified manner befitting our clan." as was put by his father, Hagan. Bartho grew up learning how to wield a sword, how to perform calligraphy, as well as how to speak properly.
Fifteen years ago a tragedy befell the island, mercenaries arrived on the island and began to slaughter it's inhabitants. The warriors of the Bearsplitter clan were not enough to hold back the assault and as the mercenaries encroached upon the center of the island Bartho's family were forced to attack holding off the attackers for a brief moment of time. Bartho, who was at the time inside his family home with his father was told during the attack to hide and was shoved into a secret compartment within the house by his father. As his father and elder siblings attempted to hold back the attackers they were slain in battle while Bartho remained silent holding his breath to not be found. When the noise settled and the fighting stopped, Bartho left his hiding spot and found his siblings dead, and his father clinging on to his life. As Bartho ran over to his father he was only able to give Bartho their family katana, a sword that had been named Tormenta.
Since then Bartho has been travelling across the world hoping to learn about the people that attacked his island and massacred his people, accepting jobs as a mercenary aiming to get his revenge.
Attack on Legion[]
- Main article: Attack on Legion
Bartho agreed to do some guard work aboard the luxury vessel known as the Victoriam, being hired by Baal of the Legion Pirates. His job was simple, to guard the money at the casino portion of the ship while it was on the floor and to prevent any issues from arising. While mostly uneventful Bartho had an unfortunate encounter with Gladius Caligula, daughter of Yonko Gladius Caesar, who had begun to chase after a would-be assassin. Bartho, being informed on the type of person Caligula was attempted to help her capture the assassin to mitigate the damage that she would do to the ship. Unfortunately, the assassin got away and Caligula had to be restrained to prevent her tantrum from destroying more of the ship. After the events that transpired Bartho accepted his pay from the job and left to head back home to his island of birth, Kumajima.
A Long Time Coming[]
- Main article: A Long Time Coming
The journey home to Kumajima was not direct. Bartho had to first stop at Sabaody Archipelago and then charter a ship home. This was a trivial matter and Bartho eventually made it home after taking a few ships to get to his currently remote island. After receiving updates from the crew hired to rebuild the island, Bartho set out to connect with his friend and fellow native of Kumajima, Kudo, a large bear that acts as the leader of the Sleuth of Bears that call the island home. After reassuring Kudo, Bartho set out to begin the first steps of his revenge and searched for clues as to who it was that attacked his village all those years ago. Receiving a lead from a previous job Bartho went to an unnamed island in Paradise searching for more clues. Finding his way to a town covered in dust and dirt Bartho searched for a man named Hachiro who was said to have information on of the raid leaders. Fighting his way through the gang led by Hachiro he made his way to the leader's room he discovered that it was not a single man that led the raid on Kumajima, but a pair of men hired to do so. Bartho received the name of one of the men a mercenary from the Wano Country, a man named Hanamura Fujiwara and that he was currently based out of Sabaody Archipelago. With the information in hand Bartho planned to show mercy towards Hachiro, however Hachiro's cowardly nature shone through as he attempted to shoot Bartho in the back, in one swift motion Bartho eliminated Hachiro and took his prized revolver.
Now on Sabaody Archipelago, Bartho was on a warpath towards Fujiwara asking every person he could find if they knew where the man Hanamura Fujiwara was. Finally finding his location outside of a local bar, after briefly confirming it was him the two of them engaged in fierce combat. Initially, Bartho was held back by the sheer power and size of Fujiwara's attacks forcing Bartho to activate his devil fruit abilities taking Fujiwara by surprise. Countering Bartho's attacks using his incomplete Sakura-Ryu and Kitsunebi-Ryu sword techniques the pair fought each until one final deciding blow from Bartho sent Fujiwara flying and near death. Bartho approached Fujiwara declaring his victory and allowing Fujiwara to speak his last words. Once they were said Bartho completed part of his revenge and ended Fujiwara's life, giving him a "true warrior's death." Walking away from the fight and commotion that was caused Bartho took Fujiwara's blade with him as a sort of trophy of his victory. Returning to Kumajima with Fujiwara's blade in hand and a foot that was severely injured Bartho was stubborn in his recovery which took longer than normal due to his insistence to move forward, in part because of the despair he felt from getting revenge and also because he felt his fight should not have been such a close one. Eventually his foot healed and he began to train once more while searching for a way to re-forge the new weapon he just collected.
Finally hearing back froma contact of his Bartho found out about a blacksmith that could re-forge weapons based on the pirate haven of Jaya. The blacksmith, a pirate named Reed Roxanne was the proprietor. Negotiating with her the price of the re-forge and for a set of armor that would fit Kudo, the two settled on Bartho engraving her tools and teaching her how to use the engravings. After a few days Bartho returned to the forge and collected his new weapon, a shortsword that was dubbed, Girasol. As Bartho left he made sure that he kept his relationship with Roxanne a friendly one in case he needed to hire her for additional services. With his new sword in hand and Kudo donning new armor Bartho set back home for Kumajima to continue rebuilding the island.
