"Mad King" Baji is a well built, confident and flashy Alabasta native that became a success story like no other. With his blades in hand and a desire to sit at the top and create a world in which people never go hungry. Formerly the king of Alabasta, once the truth about his countries past was revealed to him he and the citizens of Alubarna left their home in Paradise and traveled to Hachinosu, a country in the New World where Baji now rules as King and is out to make a claim for himself in the latter half of the Grandline.
Appearance[]
Baji is a decently tall, muscular man of darker complexion due to his upbringing in the deserts of Alabasta. As a child he didn’t have much to his name, however these days he’s always flamboyantly dressed in similar attire to Egyptian royalty, adorning clothes made of only the finest materials and embroidery he can find, allowing him to be fashionable and functional in combat at the same time.
His most readily recognizable trait has to be his hair, something he takes great pride in for its length and majesty. Never lacking in volume or shine Baji’s hair spans nearly the entire length of his body when let loose, which is often how he chooses to wear it due to it feeling the freeing according to him.

Personality[]
Baji is and forever will be an eccentric individual, striving to always show off his skill and ability in the most flamboyant way possible. He’s well aware of his abilities and thus, well aware of the fact that he’s no regular man, which only serves to aid his supreme confidence in himself and his demanding nature of others. If the point of fighting is to win, the point of winning is to look good doing it. This belief causes him to be quite hard on himself and others at times, especially those he considers comrades, always trying to make progress even if by an incremental amount. Stagnation is the enemy of progress, and the determination to persistently improve and bullheadedly press forward is in large the reason he’s been able to overcome the trials and tribulations that his life has thrown his way, contrary to what one may expect from one of royal blood.
On a less serious note Baji also has a habit of critiquing the appearance of any new individuals he comes across, either assaulting or praising their drip as he deems fit and on some occasions even forcefully giving out makeovers and making people more presentable. The outward appearance isn’t something to be taken lightly in his opinion, though not for outside validation or anything like that, but simply because he believes your appearance is a reflection of your feelings towards yourself. Someone who doesn’t take care of their appearance likely doesn’t think too highly of themselves in the grand scheme, and that’s an energy Baji dislikes being in his presence. Prior to him seizing his freedom fashion was one of many ways that his oppressors flaunted their faux superiority over those they deemed lesser, and so when Baji overthrew the monarchy that was in place he opted to flip that logic on its head and utilize fashion to uplift his people by sharing the once hoarded wealth of the royal family with the citizens of Alabasta, marking the end of his people’s oppression upon doing so. For him fashion isn’t merely about the status that comes along with fancy and expensive clothes, but a declaration of self love, worth and expression. From the way one adorns themselves you can get a feel of how they view themselves, at least in his eyes.
When it comes to his personal pleasures, Baji is one to indulge himself in all of the fruits of life, be it women, money, jewelry, alcohol, all of which he believes were created for the world to enjoy in acts of passionate fun. In his own words: “Lovers had, battles won, and shots taken, these are things that should not be counted”. Baji is the physical embodiment of sinful pleasure, finding these things to be not the sole reason for living, but enhancers to one’s life that make the everyday struggles and worries worth it. While he is an enjoyer of all that most people would consider “guilty pleasures”, there is one activity that tickles his fancy like no other, and that is a good ol fashioned fight. Despite this seemingly shallow nature Baji shouldn’t be mistaken for some pretty boy pushover. His initial personality and not overly serious demeanor may make you think otherwise but in combat Baji is nothing short of a dog, willing and able to go as far as necessary to win and achieve his goals. Ruthlessly competitive and ambitious Baji aspires to be recognized as the greatest warrior to ever live, following his own way of the sword and living life as he sees fit, boasting enough power to ensure that he and his people never have to worry about being forced to go hungry ever again.
Given his flashy persona Baji naturally has a dislike for things and people he considers dull or boring, believing it to be a waste of life bestowed upon all living beings. If you’re here you may as well look good as you do so, no point is existing only to live a bland life. Live fast, live hard, that’s living to the fullest. He can’t bring himself to respect those without a drive to want better from life just as he does, it goes against his very nature as a warrior. In his mind, those who willingly subscribe themselves to mundane, bland and ultimately meaningless are nothing more than willing slaves and pending victims to tyranny. Baji’s extreme and impulsive nature can come off as selfish, and his behavior can certainly seem as though he’s merely reveling in the fruits of his “privilege”, but when it comes down to it Baji is one of those few that managed to break free from the bondage he was born into and ultimately wants the entire world to wake up and do the same. In an ideal world, nobody would have the fear or anxiety of expressing themselves as no one organization would boast such control over the populace, inhibiting their freedoms and forcing the people to fit within the parameters set for them. He despises the very notion of someone having the power to play god over the lives of others, and that is why he’s so dedicated to rebelling against the world’s oppressors no matter what it may cost him.
Territories[]
Hachinosu[]
Hachinosu is Baji’s major territory that Baji conquered after arriving in the New World, and a large base of operations for his underground dealings.
Abilities & Powers[]
Overall physical prowess[]
Baji had always possessed unnatural physical attributes compared to his peers, capable of performing extreme feats of strength, speed and agility which were honed over his years spent as a thief, neighborhood defender. During his time as a slave he’d often train with the royal guard to maintain his strength, per the former king’s order, his physical prowess being the main reason he was forced into enslavement to begin with and eventually earn his position as the military commander of Alabasta’s army, having led troops into battle during the War of Empires. His pure physical strength alone has allowed him to devastate the environment with casual swings of his swords, creating explosions, tidal waves, shockwaves and other phenomena on the physical world with ease. This strength also allowed him to match a future Navy Admiral with an awakened mythical zoan blow for blow without the use of haki, though the two had been fighting at a casual pace and only for a moment, making it impossible to determine who boasted the advantage in their bout.
His raw physical speed allows him to easily run on water, and paired with his innate talent in the physical realm of combat he was able to see and replicate Geppo after witnessing it in person one time. Baji’s reaction speed is also to be noted, able to react and keep up with the movement of future Admiral Ehuang with an awakened mythical zoan devil fruit without the use of observation haki.
At 13 years old Baji was whipped and beaten by the King’s royal guards for hours without any sign of giving in and yielding to the pain, testament to not only his physical resistance and pain tolerance but his unconquerable spirit as well.
Like many swordsmen Baji is aware of the “breath” possessed by all things, however he takes this ability to a new level. After becoming aware of his own “voice” he can subsequently amplify or suppress his presence/intention, making him especially hard to keep track of even with observation haki.
After moving the Hachinosu, the high concentration of Pyrobloin in the food and earth eventually make their way into the bodies of all of its inhabitants after a while, enhancing their skin, muscle and bone density to a point beyond the durability of a typical human. This enhancement while not completely game changing is still significant and noticeable, providing resistance to things such as blunt force or non-haki coated physical attacks.
Sleight of hand[]
As a boy Baji was a notorious thief. As such there were certain skills that he’s developed from the time he was a young child to aid him in such endeavors, one of the more notable things being his ability to move his hands in ways that make tracking his movements excruciatingly difficult. As a kid he could rob a man of everything but his name right in his face, moving with such finesse, speed and most importantly gentleness that many of his targets were unaware that they were being robbed. While he isn’t much of a pickpocket anymore these days, Baji still possesses this precision with his hands and can do things so fluidly that it make come off as speed, when in reality it’s closer to an optical illusion.
Martial Arts[]
Combat is a major part of the culture on Alabasta, young boys often learning the basics of wrestling/grappling and hand to hand combat at extremely young ages. To this Baji is no exception, having grown up as a defender against bullies and thieves in his youth and training alongside the royal military since he was thirteen years old, Baji is an extremely strong combatant even with only his bare hands.
Life Return[]
An ability that allows a person complete and total control over their body and bodily functions. How he developed this ability is currently unknown, however he mainly uses it to style his hair.
Swordsmanship[]
Ever since a young boy Baji always had a fascination with swords. Oftentimes he’d secretly watch as the royal guards trained, studying their movements and mimicking them on his own time with sticks or anything else he could find until one day he could get some blades of his own, which he did eventually during his siege of Alabasta, taking ownership of a ceremonial pair of Khopesh style swords that belonged to the former king.
As Baji grew so too did his strength with a blade, growing to a point he could cleave through steel and make easy work of warships, able to casually slice them up as much as he sees fit, a strength he’d use to hack and slash his way through the armored bodies of the palace guards during his forceful takeover of the throne. As time went on he’d learn to incorporate the use of Haki to further amplify his cutting ability, though it is his unique application of the breath of all things technique that allows him to operate with the utmost finesse. Baji is able to cut or not cut virtually anything he wishes, allowing him to pull off impressive feats of both cutting ability as well as restraint and control as he can use his blades without causing harm should he choose. This advanced level of control and skill gives him the ability to be extremely precise with the targeting of his attacks, even capable of inflicting pain without causing physical harm.
When paired with his love for alcohol Baji’s combat ability undergoes a significant change, taking on an even more aggressive, free flowing style of swordsmanship that exemplifies his flashy nature to the core. His muscles become loose, and he becomes capable of moving his body in unique, unnatural ways. The curvature of his blades aid him with these erratic and unpredictable movements, perfectly suited for high speed sweeping slashes that can be adapted and used even in extremely close range. In a drunken state Baji’s ability with a blade is amplified drastically, subconsciously holding back less and allowing himself to fight freely thanks to his use of Life Return.
Haki[]
Known as “Heka” by his family line, Haki is a very prominent aspect of the culture, the people believing the abilities Haki grants to be gifts from a force beyond themselves. To them, Heka encompasses all living things, and is what binds all of creation together. Being such an intrinsic part of the culture, many religious and otherwise important writings explain Heka in great detail as an invisible force that grants practitioners eyes like eagles, skin tougher than steel and in some rare instances a person who has a particularly strong connection to Heka comes along with the ability to conjure storms and influence nature itself with their being alone.
Busoshoku[]
During his attack on the palace Baji had unconsciously tapped into the use of armament haki, allowing him to cleave through the armed soldiers with ease, proceeding to go on later in life and boast the haki strength to match and easily slice through attacks from an Admiral. As a lifelong swordsman Baji is also adept at armament haki emission, allowing him to damage opponents without physically touching them and project his haki outward in a force field or blast.
Kenbunshoku[]
Baji possesses potent observation haki, capable of sensing the presence of individuals for miles, even detecting and tracking the presence of a marine fleet from his castle before they hit the horizon.
Haoshoku[]
Baji is a known conqueror, boasting an inherent ability to lead as well as a will that would rather him die before he submits himself to defeat. With his years of experience Baji has grown to be incredibly precise with the targeting of his conquerors haki, allowing him to bias its effects on a specific target. He’s got such control over this power that when inside Castle Vein Baji sent the black sparks weaving through the halls and out of the castle’s entrance in order to make his soldiers stand down when they were out of earshot.
Voice of All Things[]
An incredibly rare and unique ability that allows Baji to hear and communicate with the voices of certain inanimate objects and animals such as poneglyphs. This telepathic ability is what has allowed Baji to locate the poneglyph hidden within the royal palace as well as the one on Hachinosu.

History[]
Past[]
Baji’s life wasn’t always what it is currently. Before the fame and luxuries there was a boy that lived on the streets, with no family, no home, and not a single companion to make the days go by faster, but beyond these there was one feeling that Baji can recall that fueled his desire to become something great: hunger. Day after day his stomach rumbled and panged in nothing short of agony, on his side of town poverty and going days without food or water was the norm. Making a living under the oppressive rule of their king was no easy feat, between the taxes imposed upon them to the lack of resources it was nigh impossible to live in any means of comfort. Baji was no exception to this, not knowing his father and his mother falling ill when he was about seven or so years old, Baji learned to get it by any means necessary.
In spite of his almost constantly empty stomach Baji for whatever reason was gifted with exceptional physical ability, which he made use of in order to work whatever jobs were available to him, though eventually he’d also learn to use these gifts for something that his mother didn’t quite approve of, that being stealing. At first it was just an every so often thing, something that he only did in case there was no work for him to do for the day to make ends meet, but after a few successful attempts he began to rely on his skills as a thief to provide for himself and his mother as well as the people that he’d grown close to growing up in the slums. Baji would make his way to the wealthier areas in Alabasta, often being gone for days at a time, and would steal as much as he could carry in the darkness of night to bring back home. These daring missions garnered him quite the reputation within the poverty stricken community, many people referring to him as a hero or heaven sent, things that Baji actively rejected though. To him it was merely what was right, there was no negotiating with nobles and so somebody had to take matters into their own hands, and despite his mother’s efforts to get him out of such a lifestyle Baji was done being content with table scraps. Of course, there was only so much one thief could get away with before being found out.
Baji had been successful in his thieving endeavors for about three or so years, he had a few run-ins with guards and such but he always managed to escape and to his knowledge, had never been discovered. At the age of 10 he formed a small group of likeminded young men that helped him on his escapades, giving him tipoffs about high value targets to hit as well as guard patrols and things of the sort, completely unaware that this group would be his undoing and the source of his greatest blunder. One night after yet another successful mission Baji made his way back home, greeting his ‘friends’ and preparing to divide up the loot when suddenly he found himself pinned to the ground. He’d been set up, the very people that he’d helped sold him out to the king at the time over a few hundred thousand berries. That’s the first time he’d come face to face with the Alabastian king, who had been aware of Baji’s antics for a while now and was waiting for the day he could catch him. The King at the time was a very prideful man and expected Baji to grovel at his feet and beg forgiveness, but it wasn’t in the young boy’s heart to bow before anyone, especially not the man responsible for his suffering. The King admired such fire, but in order to be useful that flame would have to be under control even if it meant beating it out of him until only embers remained. Publicly in the middle of the street, Baji was held up and beaten mercilessly by the royal guards for the King’s amusement, as well as to make an example of him to the rest of the kingdom. Hours this went on until word reached Baji’s mother, who’s health had been steadily declining for years. At the sight of her child being beaten half to death she begged and pleaded on his behalf, throwing herself in between the guards and her son despite barely being able to stand. The King of course appreciated the stroke to his ego, however he wanted to hear it from Baji, who despite suffering hundred of lashes on his back still refused to submit. That’s when a sinister idea came to the King’s mind, if physical pain couldn’t temper the boy’s spirit perhaps the death of his only family would extinguish the flame of his heart? Demanding a pistol from one of the guards, the King aimed straight for the head of Baji’s mother and she bowed down in front of him, pulling the hammer back and preparing to fire before Baji finally cried out to stop. He struck a deal, becoming the King’s slave in exchange for his mother’s life so long as he had the freedom to write to her. Happy to have finally gotten what he wanted, the King agreed, and Baji was taken back to the royal palace where he spent the next eight years of his life.
Baji’s life as the palace servant was one that he despised every day, being ordered around by scum such as this didn’t sit right with his soul, but for the sake of his mother he’d put up with it. To say he didn’t learn a lot about the world during his time in the palace would be dishonest, in fact despite his enslavement there was plenty of opportunity to study and learn, especially whenever the King went on his drunken stupors, the man could hardly function which gave Baji plenty of opportunity to snoop through essentially whatever he wanted, though oftentimes he opted to train alongside the guards whenever he could. After all the King did want him due to his physical strength and toughness, and so training along with the guards was a good way to ensure he maintained his innate gifts and mold him into the perfect general eventually, at least that was the intention, but Baji had other plans. Expecting someone like him to just lay down and accept his new position was an act of hubris that would lead to the downfall of the king’s rule.
As fate would have it, Baji and the king shared the same birthday, and when Baji turned 18 he was presented with an opportunity that would alter the course of his life. Being who he was, the King of course celebrated his birthday with a massive banquet, food, drinks and women as far as the eye could see. Most of the guards had been indulging in the festivities alongside their ruler, however Baji saw this as his chance to finally escape, having established a base level of trust over the years and never have attempted to escape not even once since his capture, it was too easy for him to make his way out of the palace while everyone else was drunk off of their asses. His only real concern were the pair of guards that watched the gate, however fate would be on his side once again as when he arrived both of them were out cold. From there Baji began his journey home to retrieve his mother. He searched their old house, keeping his hood over his head to ensure he wasn’t recognized, but to no avail. After he failed to find her in their former home he began asking around town, which is when he was met with horrific news.
“The woman that lived in that house died about five years ago.”
His mother.. was gone.. and he wasn’t there. An array of emotions washed over him, emotions that he couldn’t even accurately describe save for one as he looked through the city at the royal palace. He wanted to kill them all. That’s when Baji’s rampage began, finding and killing the men who sold him out with brutal efficiency, but these aren’t the people he was truly angry at. He wanted the King’s head, and so he started off towards the palace, killing any guards he came across. As people witnessed this some opted to hide away in their homes out of fear of repercussions for such acts, but many, like Baji himself, saw an opportunity to make a change and began to follow his lead and before long hundreds of civilians readied themselves to fight for their right to freedom. Being who he was the guards didn’t think twice about letting him inside, only to have their necks snapped as Baji made his way across the grounds with the same rage filled glare from the night he was captured. While the citizens caused chaos throughout the palace Baji went to the king’s room and pulled down a pair of ceremonial blades mounted to the wall, blades of pristine quality that were sitting and collecting dust as mere wall hangers, and with those blades he began to ransack the palace as years of anger from their unjust treatment was finally let loose. All this time he believed his mother hadn’t written back to him.. all this time they knew of her death and told him nothing. Over the years Baji had matured into a warrior like no other, retaining and expanding upon his knowledge of swordsmanship from his past as he effortlessly cleaved his way through the guards until finally approaching the King, holding his blade to his throat as more castle guards rushed in. For the first time he was the one that bestowed all the power, and boy did it feel GREAT. Finally confronted with the object of his rage Baji couldn’t even think of anything to say as the king begged for his life, in such a trance that he was unable to even hear the King’s words as a ringing filled his ears. The look of utter horror on the King’s face was all he needed to see, and with that he drove his blade into his throat, killing him on the spot. Moments after the palace doors swung open as hundreds of civilians stormed the building, going on to completely wipe out the guards that had took part in their oppression all this time. By nightfall, all had been said and done. All of the food and money of the palace was distributed amongst the people under Baji’s command, given he was the biggest player in sparking this mini revolution, and the people of Alabasta elected him to be their leader
Currently, two years after his claiming of the throne Alabasta has been in a state of reform, their ties to the world government a bit rocky given the nature of Baji’s rise to power. His vision for the country is to turn it into one of the most prosperous nations in the world, where nobody has to go hungry again, causing him to adopt a life of piracy in order to provide for his people until more consistent means of economic development can take place, even if it means delving into the world’s dark underbelly to do so.
